OP posts:

Come on, it's a pretty major Character Death. Smile

GrimmaTheNome · 02/01/2011 19:38

I'm with boogeeks mum - much more interesting storylines if poor Nigel is disabled - paraplegic and/or head injury.

imblet · 02/01/2011 19:38

That was bad enough for me

evenkeel · 02/01/2011 19:39

A big damp squib, if you ask me. And Nigel is one of my least favourite characters anyway, so hey ho!

I'm just enraged that the Control Freak Queen emerges unscathed. Maybe there are more SATTC developments to come - one can only hope.....

Fibilou · 02/01/2011 19:41

They could have gone so many ways with that episode. But to have to finale so obviously heralded within 5 minutes, well, where do they get the writers from ?

Fibilou · 02/01/2011 19:41

And my mother would also like to express her sense of deflation Grin

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/01/2011 19:56

Mine too, Filibou.Grin

Did everyone ring their mums after listeing to this?

SparklyMartini · 02/01/2011 19:57

If he is dead then I can see what the generations of repercussions thing might mean, if there are problems with the estate, cos that can cause decades of hassle, right?

But if he is disabled even severely so how would that have repercussions for generations? Surely just for the people who are around now.

SparklyMartini · 02/01/2011 19:58

MIL rang me. I am about to ring my mum Grin

stripeybumpsmum · 02/01/2011 19:59

I am not impressed.

a) because my initial reaction was 'is that it?' Not exactly shocking to the core as billed; and

b) I have immediately struck Henry off name list for DC3 on principle because she is so annoying.

Xmas Hmm
TheHouseofMirth · 02/01/2011 20:00

So unsubtle! We could (and have) come up with a much better storyline. I suppose we still have to wait for the final denoument (Lizzie blaming David presumably and spectacular family-rift) but really.

RhinestoneReindeerHerder · 02/01/2011 20:05

Only just finished listening (and then had to report to DH who pretends that he's not interested...)

Mainly feel: phew, glad that's over - was shouting at the radio when they were heading up to the roof. Agree more scope for storylines if Nige not ded.

piprabbit · 02/01/2011 20:06

When did The Archers last have a character with a disability?
Can't think at the moment.

HuwEdwards · 02/01/2011 20:07

All v.v.disappointing. Nigel Schmeigel. But Helen could not be killed off she's VFM!

ragged · 02/01/2011 20:07

Oh it's a lot, because Lizzie will never forgive. She'll accuse David of making it up that Nigel was saying how much he loved clamboring around on the roof with his dad as a kid, etc.

Eleison · 02/01/2011 20:07

That was really clunky and dull. Hope he isn't dead. My money is on survival with a long-term disability.

SparklyMartini · 02/01/2011 20:36

Actually ... I take back what I said. The fury of Lizzie at both David (for talking Nigel into going up tonight) and Kenton (for talking Nigel into putting the banner on the roof to start with, instead of over entrance) will burn for years whether Nigel is dead or just very badly injured and never-the-same-again.

I can imagine the whole family and all their friends so basically everyone having to take a side, and the younger generations inheriting the rift, too, and all sorts of blame and hatred lasting for aaaages. Freddie and Lily will grow up blaming their uncle for what happened to their daddy :(

I feel sorry for David actually -- I don't mind him usually. But he was a prize idiot tonight and deserves to feel like total shit basically forever.

:( but also gleeful hand rubbing at the many decades of storylines that this potentially opens up. I am starting to perk up about it now actually.

SparklyMartini · 02/01/2011 20:38

And either David or Lizzie or both of them will have to develop some sort of dreadful alcohol or prescription painkiller habit in order to cope with the fallout.

piprabbit · 02/01/2011 20:48

Perhaps Lizzie's heart will pack up when she hears the news? (Looks for silver lining).

seeker · 02/01/2011 20:52

IS it possible that Helen nipped home to see the family and Nigel landed on her? (also looking for silver lining)

piprabbit · 02/01/2011 20:54

Or perhaps the late NP is Helen's sperm donor?

snice · 02/01/2011 20:54

if you climb on your roof in a gusty wind having had a drink are your life/critical injury insurance company rushing to pay out?

if no insurance, Lizzie could be in real trouble

hannahsaunt · 02/01/2011 20:56

And not forgetting the baby - has Helen given the game away about the speediness of the sperm donation and Ian is really the dad and when the scales fall from his eyes at the awfulness of Helen, he and Adam claim custody of wee Henry???

hannahsaunt · 02/01/2011 20:58

Or on poor NPs death, Lizzie discovers that he was also a secret gambler, LL is mortgaged to the hilt, she is left destitute and she has to move in with David et al, sending Lily and Freddie to the local comp?
