In the interest of 'Black History Month ' in the US. The underground railroad was built so escaped slaves could travel from the South to freedom in Canada or the Northern free states. Very dangerous journey. Harriet Tubman lead over 70 people on the journey. It is estimated that at least 40, 000 enslaved people escaped.
