Can anyone recommend a pushchair/travel system? I live in a City.

what has sex got to do with it?

tethersend · 03/07/2010 13:32

Bugaboo bee.

sethstarkaddersmum · 03/07/2010 13:38

I know but I still don't get it!
I know they make pushchairs in different colours for girls and boys but there aren't basically different models yet are there? Please say no!

DuelingFanjo · 03/07/2010 13:38

"what has sex got to do with it?"

not keen on Pink or Blue. So something neutral I guess

ok, sorry. Is Gender the better word to use?

I am not that stupid that I think boys and girls need different styles/models for their 'bits' but I do want to steer away from pink or blue.

Baby Jobber City Mini. Thre wheeler, really good fold on it, easy to push.

Seth, there are not different models for different sexes. You can sleep well tonight.

DuelingFanjo · 03/07/2010 13:42

jogger? or Jobber?

sethstarkaddersmum · 03/07/2010 13:43

sorry DF, I didn't mean to imply you thought they needed different models - I just feared for a moment we were slipping into such a dystopian hell of sexism that they were actually making them. thank God they're not.
apols for hijack.

lol - no worries sethstarkaddersmum I am clueless

I'd like something which I can use for a long time, the first 6 months or longer even. Also if there's a whole travel system with one of those pram/pushchair type convertable bits and a carseat that would be good.

Quinny Zapp?
works with car seat (maxi cosi) for 1st 6m and then still going strong after 2.3 years - ds not too big yet (he is for the quinny buzz, for e.g.)

Folds really small

I got red which I think is unisex.

DuelingFanjo · 03/07/2010 13:50

is a Graco Quattro Tour massive?

OP posts:
tethersend · 03/07/2010 13:59

champagnesupernova, isn't being in a car seat for 6 months bad for the baby? I thought they were supposed to lie flat?

champagnesupernova · 03/07/2010 14:10

I guess depends how much you're in the pushchair, te
Lots of people use the car-seats for the first 6 months, carry in from the car if baby is still asleep etc
must say I didn't exclusively use the zapp but still think it's a good buggy

5inthebed · 03/07/2010 14:24

Sorry yes, jogger

If you're looking for a pram you'll use for the duration, then a Bee + or a BJCM are probably the best ones. Gracco Quattro is a beast of a pram.

M*P Sola is also a nice pram, you can buy a carrcot for it which doubles as a moses basket if you want it to. My sister is buying one for her new baby.

Multimummy · 03/07/2010 22:43

Bee+ if you have the cash - will last until you no longer need a buggy - and no shopping for a "lightweight" model (like lots of parents do) once baby can sit up.
It will save space in your car boot, is suitable from birth - you can put a car seat on it (with adaptors) if you want.
Plenty big enough for a 4/5y old (thanks to the extendable seat in the latest model).
You can accessorise it to your hearts content (with different coloured hoods/liners etc) if you wish.
If you're on more of a budget - or you just prefer - the M&P Sola looks really good for the money. Not sure on the seat size - how big it is - you could inspect that in store and decide. It prob won't fold as small as a bee - or have the wonderful suspension of the bee either mind. It also won't fold with seat in reverse position.
BJCM is fantastic if you're not too bothered about baby facing you (I didn't think I was - but found out it was really important to me - so sold mine and got the bee+). It has a roomy comfy seat - and super-quick fold system and a really nice large hood. It's fab quality and should last the course - again, you prob won't be tempted to go shopping for a smaller lighter pram after 6 months, as it does fold very compactly and is lightweight - but also provides sufficient comfort to use for a newborn upwards everyday.
Other than these models - the micralite toro or micralite superlite are very good and very lightweight, so maybe you should look at these too.

Ha ha, I just saw the title in Active convos and thought you were talking about a potential new man for a moment (until I read the entire thread title )

faddle · 03/07/2010 22:47

graco quattro tour is flipping huge. I had a micra and bought this without realising (pregnant brain) I changed to a scenic within a couple of months and the bloody thing STILL took up most of the boot.
Couldnt wait to get rid and buy something more practical. Problem was that second hand graco are worth about 10p where I live as everyone has them!

DuelingFanjo · 03/07/2010 23:49

[Grin] at Nikki

I saw something I really liked in mothercare called the Mothercare twist I think, or switch?

It could be changed to rear and front facing. Trouble is it was quite expensive.

I have had a look at ome of the ones recommended on ebay and they are still fairly expensive! I was hoping on getting something second hand TBH.
