Baby Jogger Summit?

Hi all, I'm new(ish) to MN and have found my way here looking for reviews on the Baby Jogger Summit. There aren't any on the main reviews section but I wondered if anyone has one of these pushchairs and wouldn't mind letting me know their thoughts/good & bad bits?

I've narrowed it down to this as I will be doing a lot of offroad and need decent suspension and the handbrake would be really useful too. (Second choices for me at the moment are MB Urban or Nipper 360)

Thanks!

You could ask Nigel at www.pushchairs.co.uk if he has any reviews - admittedly he sells this model - but he does test all the things he sells - so he may be able to answer any specific questions you have.

I had a baby jogger elite - which was fab (only sold because I wanted a parent facing buggy). I can say that from what I've seen of the babyjogger brand they are really easily manouverable, and the quality of fabrics and sturdy but light frames are fantastic. The quick fold system is fantastic also - and it's great this model you are looking at has a handbrake as that is really useful on steep slopes - particularly if you have a toddler/heavier child onboard (or a lot of cargo weighing the buggy down)!

I had a twin nipper 360 while very very good offroad - I found the fold on this model difficult/awkward. It was okay quality - but not as fab as the babyjogger.

I have heard the 2010 mountain buggys are not so great as the previous models now they've been taken over by phil and teds. but there were some on offer on www.pramworld.co.uk which were 2009 and 2007 models - at only £299 a fab price for what I now understand are the more desirable models for quality/design anyway.

Thanks Multimummy!

I will ask at that site you suggested, I was probably going to buy it there anyway if I went for the Summit (they do fab bundled deals!)

I didnt like the look of the fold on the Nipper, pretty complicated I thought, but otherwise a strong contender as so light.

I think I'd have to go for a second hand MB if that ends up the choice as they are sadly a bit out of my price range once you add all the extras like rain cover, footmuff etc.

thanks again

I prefer the easylife sport to the baby Jogger. Build quality and fabrics are at least as good if not better. Can get 2nd hand off ebay. Buy spares or repairs from www.2ndchildhood.co.nz they are very reasonable with the prices they don't overcharge like a lot of other companies out there do.
I am just buying my 3rd. Had one, sold it. Had another baby, so got another, sold it but quickly regretted that, just bought another! If you get the waterproof snuggle bag from www.pupabag.com it fits well.

One of the reasons i prefer the easylife is i have large children for age, i find the seat bigger than the mb. Easylifes often come with sun bug mesh included which is great, it also cuts wind for baby at the beach. I find as i buy 2nd hand i'm not too fussy about preserving it, so am a bit more relaxed about getting it mucky (mud, icecream etc). I like the seat being high up too. Really sturdy and goes anywhere.

Thanks Multimummy, is the suspension on the Easylife better than the Baby Jogger?

I will look into the Easylife as well as an option, do they hold value for resale?

I don't think the Easylife particulary do hold resale value as they are so unknown in the UK - which is why you can pick them up for only a little money on ebay.
I almost think you'd be better off ordering direct from www.secondchildhood.co.nz/sum.html
because it may end up cheaper to import your oown - it certainly seems that way with the spare parts. Don't forget parts/shipping are quoted in NZD - so they work out much lower numbers in GBP. You might get charged import duty and vat (around 20% total) extra. (usually payable to the shipping company upon receipt of goods or prior to uk ddelivery).
There is no suspension on the Easylife - doesn't really need it - you can lower the air pressure in the tyres for a softer ride for a newborn. If you get an old one with the hammock seat - this absorbs jolts by it's design anyway.
The mountain buggy may hold resale value very well - but you'll pay more in the first place. The mountain buggy name is more well known over here.
The baby jogger is certainly very very good value for the product you get - I would say so is the Easylife sport - I have owned a terrain mountain buggy - there's no doubt a mountain buggy is good - but personally I just prefer the easylife as it seems more "honestly priced" than the mountain buggy to me.
If you get mountain buggy apparently the older models (pre 2010 before the phil and teds takeover of the company) are the ones to look out for.
There are some great special offers on a 07 and 09 models at www.pramworld.co.uk.

easylife sport on eBay
I can only see a wineberry framed on at the moment - but do keep checking - sometimes they come with a yellow frame, rarely a navy frame, and more often a silver frame.
Sometimes they have a little "rusting" at the footplate - not to worry about that - can easily be sanded and repainted (or just left) - depends on if you want a brand new looking one - or something that looks like it's had an adventure or two!
You can order the bumper bar from the secondchildhood.co.nz website - I found it useful to have one fitted - as it was easy to carry the buggy by it to the car (without it unfolding) as they don't have a locking clasp (you can tie locked using the wrist strap around the front wheel when folded).
You can also order a boarded insert to make the hammock seat flat inside or new updated seat and hood (which you can also get in black). I found these rather inexpensive - I was very suprised by the low prices (after having done up a mountain buggy terrain and been quoted close to £200 for the hood and seat new!).
