Double buggy for newborn & toddler with car seat attachment

PDR · 18/06/2010 20:22

Does anyone know of a double buggy which is suitable for both a newborn and a (large) toddler which you can attach a car seat on to.

Currently have Maxi Cosi car seat but willing to get a different one if needs be.

Not bothered re front/rear facing really.

Not bothered with size as my boot is massive!

I think tandem style might be more practical but also willing to look at side-by-side.

Any ideas...?

easywalker duo?

teaandcakeplease · 18/06/2010 20:25

I bought a side by side and it was a PITA getting into shops, as a lot didn't have both doors open and was very weldy to navigate through the local shop if I needed a pint of milk etc.

Several of my friends had a Phil & Ted and found it fantastic. Very expensive, so I'd buy off ebay or something if you want to save some pennies but think that they are clearly the way forward after seeing them in use many many times since by second child was born 17 months ago and I now end up with him in the sling and my toddler in a single buggy for ease instead of using my side by side. Should never have bought it

It was a MacLaren for what its worth.

PDR · 18/06/2010 20:38

Ooo teaandcupcakes that's very interesting. Would not like to shell out for side-by-side and then never use the dam thing as so impractical. Maclarens look quite small as they go as well!

Searching for easywalker duo now....

In my search for the easywalker I've found the Baby Jogger City Select Twin Tandem which looks perfect!

Here is link if interested:

Anyone got one?

I think that one won't be as good for a toddler and baby? From the looks of it, its not out yet either, it said at the bottom of the page. Phil and Teds the baby can lie down and snooze whilst toddler sits at front and has a fab time, then you can change accessories and they can sit up when older.

I promise I don't work for them. I just have a lot of friends with them

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2010 20:59

i had a mountain buggy which was great and youj can get car seat attachment for

although it's side by side I never had a problem getting it through doorways as it's quite slim

kd73 · 18/06/2010 21:00

The Phil and Teds just needs an adapter (extra around £20) to use the Maxicosi car seat on. Just check that you can use it with the large toddler sitting on the bottom.

I know everyone loves P&T (including most of my friends in RL) BUT I really dislike 2 things:

  1. When the newborn is lie flat and the toddler is perched up top, the toddler doesn't have a lot of room and if he/she is tall then its a tight squeeze with the hood/raincover.
  1. The toddler seat underneath has no sun canopy and when I went out with friends and a 5 month old yday the sun was shining right on her.

No, other one not out till July/August but I won't be buying until later in the year so no problem for me.

I love that Maxi Cosi car seat attaches for short hops in/out of the car and then there's the carry cot for longer trips when you would need lie-flat...

Two quite good sun canopys too (am I obsessed with sun canopies?!!)

Will prob end up with a P&T like the rest of the country though

There are a few threads about the city select. let me just go look for thm for you. The reviews are quite good about them as well.

CarGirl · 18/06/2010 21:09

The graco tandem

5inthebackofthenet · 18/06/2010 21:12

This one is where people started getting them.

SparkyMalarky · 18/06/2010 21:16

If it helps, I've got the UV shade for my P&T so that the little one underneath is completely shaded - she can still see out, and I fold the top half back so that my DS who's in the top seat (and who usually doesn't want the shade) can be uncovered.

Have got friends who have the attachment for the car seat and they love it!

Have you looked at the P&T Vibe - the canopy is adjustable (so can move up for a tall elder one) and completely positionable...I love mine, almost as much as my Bee!

jenroy29 · 18/06/2010 21:20

I had a Graco Tandem pushchair and the car seat that I had from the mothercare travel system fitted onto the "backseat". There's only 13 months between my dcs so you can imagine how long I used my double pushchair for! I loved it, the basket was a great size, it was easy to turn and get through doors but as the dcs got bigger I had to jump on the back to get up curbs.
I've seen lots of people with the P&T ones and always think that I would kick the baby and that they are very low down and can't see anything.

PDR · 18/06/2010 21:33

SparkyMalarky thanks for info about UV shade - will suggest my friend with P&T looks for one as the sun was a major issue yday when it was such lovely weather and we were out all day.

Will look into Vibe - though have heard a lot of ppl complaining about their front wheel? Have you experienced any problems...

5 Thanks for the links! Do you know where any of the reviews are? I really love the design and my friend has a single Baby jogger and its fab - folds like a dream!

Graco Quattro Tour Duo looks OK but much prefer the design of the Baby Jogger or even the P&T to be honest.

I have just bought a First Wheels Trwin which is side by side and independently facing forward or backwards and can have a carrycot or carseat on it.
On EBAY about 300, I got mine 2nd hand out the paper

Changed my mind and as I saw a bargain on EBAY bought a Mamas and Papas Duette which is really versatile as you can have 3 different types of seat, carrycot, carseat, and toddler seat all facing different ways.
A plus side is the Mamas and Papas seats are wider so will last my DD longer.
It folds up really easily and pretty small as well

Hevster · 19/06/2010 06:58

we have a p&t and a I can't get the hood up or the rain cover on with a newborn and my toddler (2.8 years and 15kg)so have bought out n about nipper 360 double, doesn't help you with the car seat though. Do love my p&t but try one out before you spend the cash if your toddler is not tiny!

SparkyMalarky · 19/06/2010 07:39

Haven't had an probs with the front wheel, although I had a separate prob with the frame whch was sorted quickly, and at the same time they gave me an adapter of some sort to put on the front wheel to prevent any issues.

I love it - my 4 year old DS still favours a ride out in it!

USMum27 · 19/06/2010 16:21

The iCandy peach blossom allows a newborn in a Maxi-cosi carseat on the back (parent facing) and a toddler on the front. We have the normal peach and absolutely love it! It's a bit pricer but I think it is much nicer than the P&T

jellybeang · 20/06/2010 06:00

Just got the Baby Jogger City Select & am loving it! You can have a seat & a bassinet on it, or 2 seats, or a seat & car seat, bassinet & car seat, 2 car seats - pretty much any set up you could possible want. Also love the fact that second seat isn't really low to the ground like the P & T & much prefer the bssinet option than P & T's newborn "cave". Plenty room between seats & you can go rear-facing or forward-facing. It's expensive (hell, they all are!) but think resale value will be good.

PDR · 20/06/2010 09:15

Thank you jellybeang I think Baby Jogger City Select is the way to go
Not due until February though so got a while to wait!!!

If your not worried about size then the Obaby Zoom tandem is perfect. I bought one a few months a go for my two toddlers with the idea that i can use for a future newborn and toddler, loads of different attatchments available, carrycots and carseats etc, but the best thing i found about this pushchair that i hadnt found with any other was that it was suitable for two large toddlers! there is loads of space.

It is large though, and you get loads of "wow, look at that pushchair, isnt that a good idea rah rah rah" as it is very new and the kids can face each other, or both ooutwards or both inwards, or any combination. Its ace
