Hello there,

I thought I was a fairly bright person, but the whole 'which pushchair to pick' has really floored me!!

I could really do with some advice.

My pre-requesites for a pushchair are:

  • suitable from birth- 3 years
  • I don't want to have to use a separate carry cot, so want various reclinable positions
  • comfort for baby
  • light-weight
  • easily manoeverable
  • Myself and husband are pretty tall 5'8/ 6'2 so want suitable height handle
  • I'm not bothered re brands or what it looks like.

Any advice on this would be really gratefully received.

Thank you!!

Hi

I have had quite a few prams in a pretty short space of time.

I could def reccomend baby jogger city mini, they are suitable from birth, really lightweight fold small and sooo easy.

Handle height is great my DH is also 6'2 and its is fine for him.

Actually it would cover all of your needs without a doubt and it is one pushchair tht i could say would suit a 3/4 year old easily.
Most say they do but realistically when you use them they are not!!

I always used to have at least 2 prams at any one time for diff things ie, walking pram, an on the bus pram etc etc that was until i got the baby jogger.

Hope this helps x

EldonAve · 27/05/2010 21:30

maclaren techno

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 27/05/2010 21:35

another vote for a Maclaren Techno XT (with a cosy toes)

fully reclines, has extendable handles if you are tall,
is light and easy to fold and doesn't take up loads of room in the car boot or the cupboard under the stairs

I love mine

I have a baby jogger city micro and although not suitable from birth as its smaller than the mini my 3 yo DD has bags of space in it so if you went for the BJCmini Im sure it would last you ages x

A newborn baby should have as much comfort and protection as possible and I see tiny babys in lightweight strollers. I cant possibly see how there is comfort for a newborn - you see them bumping along. A newborn should be laid flat. This is why there are seperate parts to these pushchairs. I didnt use the carrycot I kept mine in the car seat which was very padded. You want sun protection, rain protection and warmth.

You've got to be realistic why has the pushchair got to last for 3 years. My son came out of his at 2 and refused to go back into it. Most of us have a pram come chunky pushchair and then go for a lightweight stroller later on. This can be kept for the next child or sold.

Also lightweight can sometimes mean flimsy. This is why a stronger chunky one can be more expensive and heavier. You get what you pay for.

Jane is the make for me for build quality and comfort. I had the full 3 in 1 which I bought second hand on e-bay a fraction of the brand new price. Now I have two - one for around the farm and believe me they take a hammering and another jane (carerra) for the car.

I would recommend a trip to a good pram centre as you need to try them out for Maneuverability. You'll get loads of feedback and see how flimsy some are.

What about the Bugaboo Bee? My husband is 6'3 and he finds it really comfortable to push. The 2010 version is I believe bigger than the previous one so should last longer. I've had DS in mine (old version) since birth and he has been soooooo comfy cosy with the nest/cocoon thingy.

EldonAve · 28/05/2010 20:51

bacon - did you have a lie flat car seat then?

pippylongstockings · 28/05/2010 21:13

I had a maclaren techno xt - it has done both of my children, bar the few months when they were in a double. My DS2 is now 3 and we have now stopped buggy use as he was getting too lazy!

So it lasts really well - I have found it fab, lies flat for baby naps and folds easily for storage.

My sister has gone through a bugaboo and two other buggy's in less time.

Would definitely not buy a Silver cross! I have a Silver Cross travel system which is a pram/pushchair/car seat and it is far too heavy and difficult to maneuver! Also have a silver cross stroller which is suitable from birth and although it's much easier to push around you cannot get it up or down more than one step which makes getting in and out of most buildings interesting!

Baby Jogger City Mini wyith a sheepskin liner for a newborn would be my recommendation based on your criteria

faddle · 28/05/2010 21:27

newborns really need something with suspension. I'm not PFB at all, but no way would I put a tiny baby in an umberella fold pushchair. I have pushed one myself and if I can feel the jolting from the pavement in my wrists, then I'm pretty sure the baby feels it on the seat! There really are thousands of prams out there but a couple of top tips I have are:
make sure it will fit in your boot before you buy it.
Make sure you like how it feels to push, even with a heavy toddler in it.
Ask them to fold it, then try to lift it to see if it really is lightweight.
Then, when you have found the pram of your dreams, write down the name, colour etc and go look on ebay for a second hand bargain...........

Thanks for all your advice. Really appreciated.

Funnily enough after I had posted on here last night, I started to do some more research and the Maclaren Techno XT was looking very promising- sounds like a few of you agree with this, so could well be the one for me!

Thanks again!

Maclaren Techno Xt. Brill for tall people and suitable from birth, add a net basket on the back for extra storage and you're done!!!!
