which buggy to replace an iCandy cherry?
becksydee · 22/05/2010 17:18
DS is coming up to 9mo now, been using an iCandy cherry since he was born which i love, but it's becoming more and more of a PITA that it doesn't fold with the seat unit attached. we live in a small flat & have to reverse it into the bathroom to get out of the front door! so i think i'll be selling it on in the next few months once DS has grown out of the stage 0 car seat & it's no longer useful to us as a travel system.
i'm completely bewildered by choice now though, hoping i can get some recommendations here.
i live in london so it'll mainly be used on pavements & on buses, but with weekly trips to hampstead heath and/or the local woods so it has to be reasonably sturdy.
my wishlist in order of importance goes something like:
- folds easily & compactly
- option to turn seat rear-facing
- decent back wheels for bumping up/down steps (live on 2nd floor!)
- decent sized basket
not sure how much i'll get from selling the cherry, but can't really afford to spend much more on top of that, so i'm probably looking at something that's going to be reasonably easy to get hold of second hand.
any suggestions?

Well let me give you a few tips from the many ( 9 ) ones ive had.
I have had a multitude of prams trying to find the right 1, and today i think i can say i have.
I currently own a baby jogger and it is amazing and covrs all your requirement except the rear facing option.
Now i to decided i still neede rear facing only to realise that from DD being around 11 month she hate it and used to break her neck to look round!!
The baby jogger i have is the micro but there are other oned avail.
Folds amazing, super light and easy.
So nice to push and a good basket, a must for me as i dont drive.
I even got on a bus the other day and had to fold the pushchair carry that, DD and bags and did it easily.

hmm, a few people have said similar things about their DC craning their neck to look backwards past a certain age. i just feel a bit weird not having the option - i use a sling a lot of the time & love the fact that i can walk around holding his hand or giving him a little hug!
the baby jogger looks really good though, might head to john lewis & give it a test drive! good price too. thanks for your advice perhaps i'll hang onto the cherry until DS starts wanting to look round the other way & then swap it for something else.
having said that, would still be interested in hearing about any buggies that fold with the seat in rear facing position, if they exist!

I had a loola and they do but are quite heavy and bulky!
I beleive the streety is the lighte version on the loola but not sure if it folds rear facing or not.
The quinny buzz does i think, but again are bulky.
Ive had 9 all in all and baby jogger is best by far.
I was very tepted n the new mams n papas sola this is rear facing and gorgeous but again not sure if it folds rear facing

yeah, my BIL has a loola for his DS who is 11mo - not sure the wheels would be up to bumping up/down 2 flights of stairs.
i found a fab american buggy online the other night where the handle flips round to make it rear/forward facing rather than the seat, so to fold it you just need to flip the handle back to forward facing & then fold as normal - genius! can't remember what it's called now though. why can't we get buggies like that over here?

sounds like mothercare spin, or have seen another 1 that does that but cnt remember name wil keep thinkin

Think the flippy handle one is probably this.
OP, we live in a house with a really small entry way. To get the buggy out the front door, you have to push it past the door into the front room, then open the door and pull the buggy out backwards. There is no pushchair on earth that doesn't require this maneuver, not even my friend's Volo. If you like the Cherry, keep it until you find something else you're absolutely in love with, because there probably isn't anything that you won't have to back into the bathroom to get it outside.
