bugaboo cam Vs bee

Hello after spending a long day looking at pushchairs on saturday me and my dh can't make up our minds whether to go for the cam or the bee.

Ideally we wanted something which is good around town but also on rough terrain which pointed us to the cam...but after seeing a bee and how easy it is to fold and carry we wonder are we better off getting that and then a nipper 360 for long walks.

So if anyone has got a bee or a camelon please tell me the good and bad points. TIA

Hi Mrs Smurf, we used a Cam when DD was little, it was fab and there were many great things about it. I am v tall and the handle height is the best we have had, now on an infrequently used umbrella fold which i hate! Lovely to push although the two piece element got a bit tiresome after a while, getting in and out of the car. We weren't that impressed with how it performed on rough terrain, it is better with big wheels at the front but still really rubbish to steer. We took it to a local farmers market which was in a field, it was a nightmare to push! We then got a Nipper 360 for outdoorsy stuff which is massively better on rough ground but nowhere near as lovely as the Cam.

We have just got ours out of the loft again and thoroughly cleaned ready for imminent arrival of DC2, I am looking forward to using to again.

Thats what is putting me off the cam the having to take it apart to fold it.

The bee just folds so easy to chuck in the boot it seemed fab. Maybe will go for the bee and nipper then.

Thanks

I bought both, the cam for everyday (I do a lot of walking added to walking dd over to playgroup and back everyday which alone is 4 miles!!) and the bee for the car. I seem to be the only person in the world who hates the bee!!! I love all the features and it is so easy to sling in the car but I am all and just felt ridicolous pushing this tiny little dollies pram. My ds is a big and long boy and when I first used it when he was two days old he looked too big for it then!!

If you are worried about getting the cam in and out of the car for short trip just take the chasis and put the car seat on with the adaptors. I never did this with dd as I hate people who use car seats on cheap buggies to get their ds rearfacing and have no thought to the advice on no longer than two hours in the car seat. It is very handy.

I really don't use the car much, maybe once or twoce a week but if I could only have one I would get the cam and then a nipper or mountain buggy (I have one) for off road. You will still buy a maclaren later for holidays as they are really so handy but then you will have three!!!

Thanks carrie looks like im going to have to borrow a toddler to try in the bee.

Im going to be using the car most days so I need something easy to put in and out and im worried about getting fed up of a cam.

Wow this is all confusing!

Also the only thing swaying me more to the cameleon is that they advertise it as good off road and it seems this is not the case.

How much off-roading are you likely to be doing?

jennifersofia · 17/05/2010 14:05

We have a bee, it is good, but I would say that it is a city pram - a delight to push on pavement, not meant for grass or rough ground. (It can handle park grass, but not lots else). My toddler is 2.2 and still fits, but she is not a really big child.

mrsSmurf · 17/05/2010 14:11

Tobermory- I have a big dog so daily walks around forests, grass banks etc

Jennifer-Yes if I go for the bee im definatly going to have to have a 3 wheeler for off road but it seems i'll have to do that even if I get a cam.
Thanks guys its great to hear first hand experiences.

Kayla-I don't see them around here much everyone seems to have those huge white fake leather prams.

Thats great that your son still fits in there, im hoping i'll not need a mclaren if the seat is that large.

It's ok I don't mind you having a rant lol.

Im hoping we will get the full 3 years out of it because it's alot of money plus I really don't like mclaren type buggys.

So hard to decide!

Just bought my Cam at the NEC baby fair last weekend. I went along convinced I loved the bee plus but realised just how small it is - surely not going to be a good long lasting purchase and not so great from birth. Im having a summer baby and the idea of cocooning baby in the bee's newborn papoose rather than a proper carry cot didnt seem right. You need a decent sized boot for getting a cam in. It doesnt collapse down very flat. Not an issue for us so I got what I thought would be most comfy for baby.

GeekOfTheWeek · 28/05/2010 12:29

I've had the bug frog (similar to the cam) and the bee.

The frog was nice but was a pita putting up and down and took up lots of boot space (bmw 3 series, good sized boot) Can't say it was all that to be honest. The 2 part put up and down gets tiresome and I only kept mine about 6 weeks

I have a bee now which I adore. I didn't like them at first but I tested one in john lewis and loved it. So easy to put up and down, light and small. Gorgeous to push and very easy to manoveure.

Going to get a nipper too for all terrain as the bee won't be good on the beach.

Tabitha8 · 28/05/2010 12:59

The Cam is great off road if you buy a set of snow wheels to go on the front. Mine sails through all the mud.
Well, not literally sails, but you get what I mean.
