Bought a new pushchair on ebay, not as described, what would you do?

I collected a double buggy at the weekend having purchased it on Ebay, from a smoke and pet free home. Have got a horrendous cold and chest infection so no sense of smell whatsoever at the moment, but when I got it home dh said it smelled really smoky. Thinking back, the woman I collected it from said it had been stored at her mums, and her mum was sitting in the garden smoking, so putting two and two together... Also, when I inspected the cosy toes etc, there were lots of white cat hairs... Feel really fed up as it was quite a journey to get the thing, and I know things can get quite difficult on Ebay once you start disputing things... I've washed the covers and removable headhuggers and straps but the fabric of the buggy can't be removed. Do you think it will be ok if I try to sponge-wash it, or have I landed myself with a dud?

What pushchair is it. There are very few pushchairs where the fabric isn't removable in some way.

I would contact the selling pointing out that the pushchair smells of smoke and has cat hairs on it and so was not as described. See what their response is. What would you like them to do? Do you want a refund, or a partial refund?

Disputes can be horrible, but as long as you stick to the facts ebay is there to help.

deffo would contact seller that is not on.

Agree with PP's - first thing to do is to contact seller and express your concern, that you bought because of the assurance that it was from a pet and smoke free home, and that it is clearly neither.
also, there arent many buggies where all the fabrics cant be removed, may be a bit fiddly, but can be done. Only ones I can think of is Quinny buzz (back of seat unit) and the Loola.

Did you pay cash? Not sure if you can do anything.

Hmm - thanks for your thoughts everyone. Its a Maclaren Triumph double - I can see that it might be possible to unfasten but it has card or something inside it to give the leg-support shape (if that makes sense) so I couldn't put it in the washing machine. I did buy cash... For some strange reason I feel reluctant to contact the seller, as I get the impression that they won't be that happy to help me, and would dispute that it had been stored in a smokey house, but to a non-smoker its pretty obvious isn't it? I'm just trying to clean/air it as best I can at the moment, and will see how that goes. Thanks again everyone!

all fabrics come off this and it goes in the machine even the hood.

tutu100 · 11/05/2010 22:48

The fabrics do come off. They should just unhook on either side at the top and then underneath the seat. Then you just slide the fabric seat bit off the frame.

Removing the hoods has a bit of a knack but they do come off. They can also go in the washing machine, but put them in a pillowcase to stop any clanking.

I would contact the seller, at the end of the day you have nothing to lose, they may offer you some money back. If they are nasty either report to ebay, or chalk it up to experience whilst leaving negative feedback explaining the situation.

Remember the seller can not leave negative feedback for you.

Hope you get the smell out.

Yup, you will def get all covers and hood washed, no problem! I had triumph - not sure what you mean about a card bit? I washed all of mine. if you get them all off, it should just be fabric? Don't put softener in with it though, will affect the shower resistance of the hood after time!!
