Which mountain buggy?

Looking for a mountain buggy and they seem to have changed (borrowed one a few years ago) they don't seem to have as big/deep seats as they had before?
Is the Urban jungle a new style? Is the classic style still for sale?

I really need a 3 wheel buggy that can cope with the country side but ideally also fit inside shops is durable and will last many years DC2 is still a baby and we're thinking of having more so want it to last.

They have recently been taken over by Phil nd Teds and are being made in China I think. Last years' models should be possible to track down somewhere, possibly online - the fabrics changed, and became manmade and thus not as strong in about 1995 I think - plus the handle became adjustable.
I'm not sure if the seat got shallower but I suspect from the 3 I've owned that it did.

Mine is the urban elite from 2009, and that model has cotton fabrics again but thicker than the original model - which is why I chose it.

I'd try for a second hand or older stock one as apparently the new China made ones aren't as good quality. Ebay or a local indie retailer might be your best bet.

Btw I got ours from Chariots who seem to still stock the 08 version - ring them and ask, they are very helpful.

i was going to suggest ebay too. is it a single or double you're after?

DorotheaPlenticlew · 24/04/2010 16:53

Def go for eBay, we got ours that way. They are (or were) so sturdy, it's likely to be at least as tough as a new one if not tougher and better despite being used.

And cheaper, of course.

Thats interesting Fiight I though the same that they just didn't seem to be of they same quality as they used to be, I especially liked the quality of the old seat. I will look up the elite 2009.
It's a single we'd rather new being that we hope to use it for many many years will look at indy shops.

Are there any other 3 wheeler that are as good quality and easy to push as the old style Mountain buggy?

Ox Pram Centre & Kiddicare are selling the newer models

The new single is slightly wider than the old one but I think it's just the wheel base - the seat is supposed to be unchanged

Just watch the brake on the elite.

We had trouble with ours sticking and jamming and in the end got a replacement frame sent out - and I asked for an Urban frame, not an elite one, because I'd heard from other elite owners that their brakes jammed, too. However some seemed to be fine so it is a matter of what batch I think!

Our urban frame has been fine, despite them not being able to find anything wrong with the elite one. They replaced it after the second sending back!

Most are probably fine.

We bought an easywalker sky as we couldn't get a MB when DD was born due to supply issues (they had just been taken over by P&T's) . It is very very similar, worth a look. We love ours and don't regret not being able to get a MB ( which I had my heart set on!).

Pramworld.co.uk have some 09 versions on offer. Look in the sale section for mountain buggy's. Don't know if these are pre phil and ted's or not. Worth a look as around £299

carrielou2007 · 25/04/2010 09:26

Hope they are as good as everyone says as I have just bought one on ebay, black urban, no clue on it's age! I love my bugaboo and have a black mac xt for when ds is bigger. W live near the beach so miss having a 3 wheeler and for running etc. Fingers crossed I like it or it will be on the for sale boards tomorrow!!

Hi can I ask what a mountain buggy is like ? I might be looking for one on ebay but want to know what a mountain buggy is actually like. I live in a very hilly area, NT area and need to have something suitable for footpaths that are not made up and can get up hills and all types of surfaces. I have got a Britax 3 wheeler but found that the suspension on it isn't great for walking up small footpaths and mountains.
