iCandy Peach versus Bugaboo chameleon

Can anyone help who has knowledge of these prams - particularly the iCandy peach as tons of people have already recommended the bugaboo chameleon to me? We were going to go for the iCandy peach because it can easily convert to a double if we increase our family and also because the carry cot can be put down anywhere without that big rail that the chameleon has along the bottom.
We live in London but will probably not be taking pram on the tube - it will be more for me walking in my area and to take in the car somewhere.
I know everyone raves on about the bugaboo and there were issues with other iCandy's being too heavy etc..but I believe the peach is much lighter than the others?

i would go for the bugaboo, much better quality and a much better buggy. or there is the babyjogger city select coming out at the end of this month lullaboo still have some for pre-order. you can add an extra seat to make it a double if you have another child.

Thanks for the advice. The main reason we were going for the iCandy was because it converts to a double as we don't want to wiat too long (it we can) for a second child. But obviously quality is a big concern.

there have been several cases of the front wheel of the icandy shearing off and also the pip converter in the pear snapping. i will let you now what the babyjogger select is like, i am getting the extra seat kit as well and will be using it as a double as i have twins. the reviews from usa where its already out have been excellent.

ok thanks.

I have the iCandy Peach and its the best stoller I ever had. I had a Bugaboo for my first child and that was perfect but it does not turn in to a double. When I was pregnant on my second child I decided to do some research. I saw the Peach and had a full service in store and fell in love with it. Five months later I can fully report its perfect. I did some research on Peach and sheared wheels and I could find nothing nor could I find nothing about the Pear converter snapping so i dont know what some people are going on about. Bugaboo is great as a single but now I wished I had invested my money earlier.

kapars · 15/04/2010 21:06

Thanks for the comment Duva.
I do want the peach it's just because the bugaboo has been around so long there is so much more experience/good reviews and it's hard to get an opinion from someone using the peach as it's so new.
But that is really helpful. It's the double conversion that is swinging it for me.
Is the size of the carry cot and seat ok for you?

Icandy Pear is naff. Crap build quality, huge, and weighs a ton. Seats are too small for a toddler aswell.

BUT I have heard great things about the peach, and have seen one in the flesh at my local childrens centre and it was lush. Would still be suspicious about build quality though, and they are NOT lightweight - the chassis weighs 8kg before you even put the wheels on let alone the seat.

Bugaboo are the best, by far, miles, streets ahead, loads lighter (weighs about 10kg with everything) seat is way bigger. lots easier to push too. Only problem is as you say, they dont do double.

I would say if the age gap is less than 2 years, you will prob. need a double, but otherwise a single and board/seat (which bugaboo do have) would work OK.

mel2005 · 15/04/2010 21:29

the front wheel sheared of the icandy with two members of tamba and one of the babyshops i spoke to said about the pip converter snapping which was why he no longer stocked them. he also said that icandy dont make them themselves they buy them in from china and there is an identical buggy sold abroad alot cheaper by another brand. i have seen one on e-bay a while ago and i did think it was odd that it was identical. anyway the icandy does have a warranty so if anything happened you would get it fixed.

mel2005 · 15/04/2010 21:33

yes i had the bugaboo with the board and boo seat for my 18month old ds1 and baby dd1. it was great and now there is the kid-sit as well. i have seen the peach and had a pear and had several bugaboos and the bugaboo is by far the better quality. i wish they would make a double.

kapars · 15/04/2010 21:35

how does the board/seat work with the bugaboo? what is it exactly? sorry new to all this and trying to get it right!

i have a kid-sit at the moment and its great, i did have two on my double.
when are you due? if you have time you could wait to see what the babyjogger select is like. its a similar idea to the icandy, its a bit cheaper and supposed to be better quality from what i read in the reviews from usa and they even say its as good as the bugaboo. and it folds in one bit. i used to put my icandy in the car whole so i didnt have to take it all to bits to fold it. i sound like i hate icandy but it was a good buggy i did enjoy having it and it made life alot easier when the twins were tiny, i did had to have the handle replaced as the folding bit broke but i had another buggy so it didnt matter much. comparing the two it wasnt such good quality as the bugaboo.

Oh wow that is pretty cool! Looks like fun. What age toddler is that suitable for?
I am due beginning of July so want to get it sorted next month really.

I too live in London and so mainly walk places or take a bus, the icandy peach is fab, looks smart and really easy to manouvre. I had te same dilema as you, the bug is also lovely but the flexibility of the icandy to expand is helpful - mind you, not ready for next child yet!!!

We bought the carrycot and the pushchair, the quality is really good and DD is very comfortable in it - more so than her moses I think! The carrycot is unlike some others, fine for sleeping in overnight - so we're able to use it on hols this year rather than buying a carrycot - although I am having to buy a travelcase for the carrycot to protect it from the airline!

The base is quite heavy, but then they all are, I can mange to lift mine into the boot with no trouble and once you've read the instructions is v.easy to pick up and put down. I think the peach has a lighter base than other icandy's. My daughter is now 2 months old and I've had loads of comments on how nice the pram is and been stopped inthe street to ask where I got it!

The height of the handle is really good too, DH is v.tall, so good to be able to extend it.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy - get some rest, believe me, now is the time to conserve energy and indulge YOU!

duva · 16/04/2010 11:31

Hi Kapars, I purchased the lower carry cot and bubs slept in it for 5 months. Its nice and deep and I did not have to buy a moses basket as the chap in store told me it is suitable for over night sleeping.

The seat unit looked a bit small to me at the start but I just had to take the liner out and the difference was noticeable. I used it at the start to give extra padding but as he grew I just took it out and is deeper and wider than my Cameleon.

Dont forget to register your Peach online as you get an extra 6 months warranty on your 2 year warranty!

kapars · 16/04/2010 16:51

Thanks so much for all your advice. It is making my decision a lot easier!

duva What is the age gap between your children?
I have peach on order but still wavering! Had another demo at John Lewis at the weekend and I found the chassis on the peach really heavy to pick up - while bugaboo seemed much lighter.
Although the JL guy did say the quality is the same.

felicity Do you have no trouble getting on and off the bus with icandy?

I am driving everyone mad by constantly changing my decision! At least we have it down to two travel systems.
