Pushchair help needed, all terrain

Hi I am completely new to all this, also live on an island so a 2 to 3 day trip to get to the shops and am running my own business so difficult to get away at the moment.
I'm due in June and thought I'd just go and buy a pushchair when I go away to have the baby but apparently you can't just do that and have to order them
My needs are that it must be good on rough ground so ideally a 3 wheeler, forward and rear facing as I can't see me getting another later on, I like the idea of not having to wake them up to put in the car seat etc so does that mean I need a travel system? not too bothered about the size although our house has very little space so it might have to live in the boot of the car.
The only one I've found so far is the Britax vigour which looks fine but works out quite expensive to buy the whole lot.
Any help would be very gratefully appreciated

If you are on a very windy island, like me, then be careful which 3-wheeler you go for as ours would blow over in the wind

I had a hauck infinity which was okay on track roads and relatively flattish grass, but the small front wheels would often go down a divet on the rougher ground and it was useless on gravel trackes (with big gravel).

THe good thing about the infinity was the carrycot and reversible seat. I also had a carseat which fitted on with adaptors I got from preciouslittleone.

I now have a Hauck Traxx which is a four wheeler - man, it's a beast but pushes around the island no bother at all! Beach and everything! No idea if you get car seat to fit onto it, but it is only forward facing.

Phil n Teds seem to do okay on our terrain - have a couple of friends who have brought theirs, although they don't live here.

If you're wanting an all terrain pram, you're quite restricted. All terrains are usually three wheelers with air tyres, and can be quite unsteady if they are rear facing, so not many are.

Baby Jogger City Elite/Classic prams are great. You can get a rear facing carrycot for them, and also get a car seat attachment.

Out n About Nipper 360 is suitable from birth as lies flat, but no car seat or carrycot and doesn't rear face.

Mountain Buggy, one of the best, you can get a carrycot that rear faces but no car seat.

ok, forget the vgour for proper all terrain- for this you need air tyres, mountain buggy the best of best, baby jogger city elite or classic 2nd to this. with both only carrycot faces you so when bubs out of this in seat (say 5 months old) then faces away.... only parent facing seat for older child with air tyres is the bebe confort high trek....only available to order from a european website (i can do link if you want)

multimummy · 31/03/2010 12:52

If you can order online from ebay - this is a really really good deal on a baby jogger classic with the carrycot:

Baby Jogger classic with carry cot only £149!!!

Yes - it is pink - so maybe only if you're having a girl unless you're quite open-minded.

I highly recommend the baby jogger pushchairs - as a mum of many who has had a pram or 2 over the years. They're very high quality - easy to fold and set up. Easy to use and keep clean if you need to. Roomy and last the course (from tiny baby to chunky toddler/ pre schooler)

AvadaKedavra · 31/03/2010 12:57

That's a GREAT offer on the Baby Jogger there

I was going to suggest P&T Vibe, you can get carseeat adaptors or a carrycot.

AvadaKedavra · 31/03/2010 12:59

this looks good and sturdy

mistlethrush · 31/03/2010 13:02

You can get a MB car seat adaptor so that you can add a car seat - never bothered myself - happier to have ds flat in the mb than in a car seat.... Just did a lot of singing and talking to him. I don't think that his speach was delayed or restricted as a result (although if it was, good job as I quite often can't get a word in edgeways) - and he loved watching the dog chase her frisbee from an early age... Really easy to push. I had the Urban version, but you could fix the wheel, though very rarely did this, even over very rough terrain.

multimummy · 31/03/2010 13:05

You can also get a car seat adapter from babyjogger - if you bought the deal at online4baby (you can phone them) - you can get the car seat adapters at the same time I believe.

I bought my baby jogger city elite from them - great company - fab deals.

I'm sooooo tempted by the pink babyjogger - even though I don't need it! LOL!

YouCantTeuchThis · 31/03/2010 14:02

It was a jogger that we had that blew over regularly - not a wide enough wheel-base, I think.

Great deal though!

diznom · 31/03/2010 16:35

Great deal on the baby jogger but don't think husband would be too impressed with the pink, even if we do have a girl.
Really like the look of the Hauck, I'm off to look at reviews, any experiences?

For all terrain you cannot beat the Mountain Buggy.

thatsnotmymonster · 31/03/2010 16:50

I would recommend the Phil and Teds Sport.

I had a Jane powertrack or something when ds was a baby and that was quite good. The car seat/carrycot can face you.

I have also had a mountain buggy double, mclaren double and maxi cosi mura single. By far the best of them all is the Phil and Ted's.

If you are planning on having another baby in the next 3 years then definitely get it as you can convert it to a double. It is a really good size, easy to fold, fits in any boot, good off road...

try and get one on ebay.

AvadaKedavra · 31/03/2010 17:02

Which Hauck are you wanting reviews on?

lotster · 31/03/2010 17:15

P.s. On the P&T Vibe, had one for 6 months and found it v. wieldy to steer compared to the p&t sport or Mountain Buggy.

If you get a back back like me the mb'a wide handle is really valuable and it turns on a sixpence!

YouCantTeuchThis · 31/03/2010 19:56

looks like that hauck i'coo has the same wheels/steering as my traxx...if so, that is ideal for island-life.

BUT...get a lightweight buggy for trips to the mainland. You don't want to be lugging this thing in and out the boot!

diznom · 05/04/2010 11:16

Thanks very much everyone, think I will go for the hauck country, looks good and sturdy and such a good deal. I'll let you know how get on.
