Best 'compact' buggy

Ladyem · 08/03/2010 16:34

DS is now 6 months and I am looking for a lightweight but cosy buggy to replace my monstrous Graco travel system as I am fed up of pushing the great weight around and also it completely fills the boot of my car (Nissan Note).

I am looking to spend around £150 and have been eyeing up models such as the Petite Star Zia, but have read bad reviews. Like the M&Ps Luna, but is too wide when folded (fits in the boot, but still leaves me with little space). Maclarens are too long when folded to fit in the boot without having to angle them, so they are out too... help!!!

TIA

Baby Jogger City Mini but might be over budget?

kit84 · 09/03/2010 11:20

ladybird bubble!!
Like the zia, but higher handles & sturdier.
Can get it from zia for 125, but lots of discount codes around so can get it for around 100 if not slightly less. bright colours, cute ladybird pattern on inside of hood. comes with liner / footmuff.

oops, got my words cnfused there, you can get it from very.co.uk

Ladyem · 09/03/2010 15:35

Thanks for the replies! I'll take a look at both of those!

Another vote for Baby Jogger City Mini, if you can get it in the boot. They're great!

Ladyem · 10/03/2010 08:24

Thanks for the suggestions! I've googled the baby jogger and the Ladybird bubble and both look fab. I could stretch to the price of the baby jogger, although it still might still be too wide for the boot (in terms of space I'd have left) so I think I'll have to go and have a look and see it in rl. The Ladybird Bubble looks like the right size and weight and seems muck like the Zia, but with a better basket (and better reviews!)!!

Thanks again! I'd not heard of either of those two, so I now have a few more options to explore!

Glad to help - must admit to also having a Baby Jogger City Mini as well as a Bubble didn't suggest the Baby jogger as like you said it may fit (it does in the C2) but there's no space left for anything esle.

Though Baby Jogger have just brought out the Baby Jogger City Micro which could be worth looking at, I've not managed to find the dimensions though to see how much smaller it is than the Mini, could be worth looking into

My frined had this porblem with a Micra, and bought a Quinny Zapp. It is TINY when folded.

Ladyem · 10/03/2010 17:09

Kit84 - Oooo thanks, will google the baby jogger city micro! Sounds promising!!

Bikerunski - Thanks for the reply! I was originally going for a zapp, then was told that it doesn't recline and there is no basket, so the Zia was suggested as an alternative. But then, the Zapp is much sturdier than the zia...!! I think that there should be a place like in the 'shopaholic and baby' book where you can just go and try them all out to compare them instead of traipsing round John Lewis, Mothercare and ToysRus and trying to remember!!

Thanks again!

Right... off to google!

Ooh, could you let me know the dimensions when folded for the Micro? May tell DHI NEEEEED one. ;)

Ladyem · 10/03/2010 18:52

ok, confused myself with the dimensions (not hard!), but although the micro is wider than the Zia, the width of the micro is less than the zia's length IYSWIM, so makes it smaller when folded overall!

Found website with the dimensions on and they are:

Open: 75cm (h) x 61cm (w) x 106cm (l)
Folded: 36cm x 62cm x 23cm (Zia is (L)76, (W)38, (D)27cm.)
Weight: 7.5kg

So a little heavier than the zia, but smaller when folded, which is my main priority!

Comes in under budget, too on this website!!

At that price, how can he say no!!!

Yay! Now just have to find a new home for my graco - DH's only stipulation to buying new buggy!!

just thought id stick my nose in and say that when i rang precious little one about 3-4 weeks ago they will do the baby jogger micro for £127. you have to ring them for a price and pay over the phone (i think?) but they 're very reliable, i thought they were great...though i opted for a zapp for my 6 month old!

Ladyem · 10/03/2010 21:24

Oooh, thanks for that, Lydia! Just had a look on the website and they have a very funky green one on there, so might give them a ring tomorrow!! How are you finding the Zapp?

OP posts:
lydiathetattooedlady · 11/03/2010 18:14

thats ok! i looooove the zapp and ds seems to as well. even though it doesnt recline he still sleeps really well in it. He has reflux so isnt happy being reclined anyway! folds lovely and small, ranicover is a pain in the ass, seems really snug but doesnt bother me, it keeps him dry! i think with the baby joggers you have to buy the raincover seperately?? and the recline on the micro is only at an angle i think...i saw a demo on youtube when i was trying to decide. the deciding factor for me was that i also needed it to be compatible with a buggy board which the BJCM and micro arent!
