2yo twins and a newborn - which pram?

What are my options? My twins will be 2 in May and new baby is due in August. I have a Mountain Buggy twin atm which I love.

I was going to use a sling at first and then a buggy board but I love to go out for long walks so I think I need a pram they can all fit in. Second hand if possible because I want to keep the cost down.

I am veering towards a Jane powertwin with a buggypod - I think that will be my cheapest option. There is also the T3 Jogger and other twin prams with toddler seats, but they seem very expensive and hard to get hold of second hand.

Is there anything else I can consider?

Oh yes, that is true - was not pushing a buggy while using the sling. I'd say maybe only go on long walks when you have help for the first few months and then once the twins are able to walk for longer, then the sling will come into its own as you won't need a buggy at all for long walks.

agree with getting a wrap., a nice moby would be good for a little baby.

i use mine regularly to carry my 8 month old, while pushing the 2yr old in a buggy. it's fine tbh

i wouldn't trust them on buggy boards I have to say. not until they're older. a friend of mine had one and her little boy jumped off it once and ran out into the road, she had to abandon baby and run after him

think that times 2!!!

Thanks for all the info - strolli looks good, do you think a 2.3yo woud be ok on one of them? There is a harness to strap them in but doesn't look very secure.

Am now thinking maybe a sling would do the job after all though.

I hadn't noticed there was a harness tbh. I would have thought 2.3 absolutely fine. I think that's the age of the 2 children I've seen on a strolli round here, well they look about that!

Thanks, I have been looking on ebay and I think I am going to buy a Jane Powertwin and sell the Mountain Buggy. I should be able to get a powertwin for about £100 and get about the same for the MB. I can put a buggypod on the powertwin - I'd feel happier with that, and it might be nice to have a different pram - a single width one too (well, it will be until LO is born!)

I will even be able to get it through the front door which will be a major luxury! The MB lives in the garage.

Sounds good neenz, it is nice to have a single buggy width (I just bought an XT for the occasions when I just have the 1 child, bliss). Plus you can get the surfer board for the powertwin should you want later.
How're you doing anyway? Must be hard coping being pg & dealing with 2 active toddlers, I'm not pg & finding it hard!

mel2005 · 26/02/2010 11:24

i had a couple of jane powertwins, they are good but will be heavy having the toddler in the front, what some people do is have the car seat on the front and toddler in the back. the front seat is from 5ish months. when i had a toddler and baby in mine it tipped into the road when he lent to the side, luckily a car wasnt coming as we live off a main road. i did have the surfer board which is quick release. there are also two versions the powertwin and the powertwin pro (newer version). just dont get the ones with spokes as you will spend alot of time tightening them, also there is a problem with some with the front wheel vibrating like a broken trolly at the supermarket when you walk quickly. you might want to measure how wide it will be with the buggypod. i had the origional buggypod (grey one) and it fitted really badly and was really flimsy and unstable, i hated it. same with the strolli which used to flip under and neither were great if used on an uneven surface.

mel2005 · 26/02/2010 11:26

both the strolli and buggypod have newer versions so they might have improved

mel2005 · 26/02/2010 11:27

the abc with reclining toddler seat would be great but they are about £400 on e-bay

neenz · 27/02/2010 20:23

Accessorize - I am good thanks! Now that I am over the first trimester sickness and tiredness I am feeling good and enjoying it. It was really hard for about 8 wks though . It has put me off having any more, but we'll see . Being pg with one baby is much easier than two anyway!

I have heard bad things about the buggypod so I wonder now whether it is best to splash out on the ABC. We can afford it but I am a bit of a tight bugger , I like to get the best deal possible. But I suppose we would get a lot of money back when we sold it. If I kept hold of the MB we might only need the ABC for 12m.

Mel, do you mean the ABC double with a toddler seat on top? Not sure how it reclines... There is an ABC pram on ebay which seems to be a single buggy with both toddler seats on top - surely that would be unstable? Or can you put the toddler seat on top or front? I wish you could go look at one .

I need to buy it asap really cos we went to look at new cars today and I need to make sure the new pram fits in the new car!

Glad you're coping alright Neenz, admittedly I much preferred being pg with one than two as well! Never doing it again now tho
I think Mel means the double ABC with reclining toddler seat, one popped up on TAMBA recently. Don't know what I'd do in your position, probably keep the buggy I had to make life easier and add something to it but then I've had 11 buggies.

neenz · 28/02/2010 14:08

lol accesorize . If I went for the ABC I'd prefer the single buggy with either two single toddler seats or the double toddler seat. It would be slightly slimmer than the MB which would be marvellous. If I am forking out all that I don't want another double monstrosity if I can help it!

I think the single buggy with the double toddler seat would be best cos then you just unclip the toddler seat and remove it, then fold down the buggy, and then I presume you put it in the car in two pieces (got to check this with someone who has one!). That would be easier than unclipping two separate seats, and the single would take up less room than a double in the car when folded.

I had a look at some ABC videos on youtube and that made it much more clear as to how the buggy works and which toddler seats are available (there are two - a single seat and a double seat)

OP posts:
mel2005 · 28/02/2010 21:55

i had the single abc with a single toddler seat on when i had my second baby. it was a fab buggy and very stable. i could have my 18month old toddler in the top seat and an empty buggy and it was fine. they are 110cm long when folded because they fold further down the buggy than the mountain buggy. the problem with the double toddler seat on the top is that you will have two, two year olds which mightmake it unstable. BUT they do do a version that has a front and top toddler seat. my children have needed a buggy until they were about 3 years old. sometimes its just to keep them strapped in when its busy or to get places quicker. so you will need it for about a year max. if you had the single abc with toddler seats you could then take the extra seats off and have a fab little three wheeler for your youngest.
by the way some of the single toddler seats have a bar so it can be just pulled off, the one i had, i had to take the handle bar off to get the top seat off so it would fit in the car i had at the time. didnt take long but the newer adapter bar is easier.

i like them so much i am waiting for a single one to come up on e-bay as i have a new toddler seat and raincover sitting in the spare room. when the twins are older the abc will be great for the transition to non-buggydom

neenz · 28/02/2010 22:00

Thanks Mel, that is really useful info. I think you are right about the single buggy with double toddler seat. The single with two toddler seats or the double with one toddler seat would be better. I am looking at the T3 jogger too. I would really love to have a single width buggy but may have to settle for another double. I do love the MB double, we just get in the way a lot!

OP posts:
mel2005 · 28/02/2010 22:18

dont worry about getting in the way, i used to but now i dont. you only have a buggy for a few years and i always think my mountain buggy is the same width as a standard wheelchair (infact it has been narrower than most i have seen) my two like being side by side in the buggy and i find side by sides easier to push and steer than the inline buggies.

the abc buggies are very similar to the mountain buggies. the single version i had felt lighter than the single mountain buggy i had at the same time but it was longer folded. i would probably have bought a double abc with toddler seat if i could have got one when i had the twins as dd1 wants carrying everywhere if she doesnt have a seat or buggyboard. but the mountain buggies are easier to come by and i got a great bargain. with the abc, you need to buy a bar to fit kiddyboards on as it doesnt have a back bar.

neenz · 01/03/2010 21:19

Yes to be fair the MB does get in most doorways without a problem - now that everywhere has to be wide enough for a wheelchair they all fit the MB too. I like having mine side by side too

oh, if you buy an abc from NZ you might have to pay TAX in it on top of the purchase price. they are sooooo expensive now the gobabago company have taken up selling them for abc. at one time you could get a double with toddler seat posted for under £400. best to get one from e-bay because then you can sell it on for the same price and you have had free use from it.
