phil and ted's toddler seat seems too small?

I'm having a bit of a pram dither. I'm currently pregnant with my second and DD1 will be 21/22 months in May when DC2 is born so I'd decided I'd definitely need a double and had narrowed it down to one of the phil and ted prams.

However, after testing them out (the sport and the vibe I think) at the local shop on Saturday I'm now dithering again. DD1 already seemed too big for the toddler seat when it's on the top. She's quite tall for her age, but not abnormally tall. However, her head already seemed to be touching the top of the rain cover so I can't see how this would work until DC2 was big enough to switch out of the carrycot bit.

Has anyone else had this problem and what did you go for?

Our other problem is that we live in an old house with narrow doors, so any of the side by side doubles just wouldn't go through the door and I definitely want a pram I can get through the door if the DCs are asleep.

I had a phil and teds to take my 4 year old and 6 year old to disney, they both fitted in either seat and it pushed brilliantly.
I honestly don't think you'll find a better solution to the close gap and needing a buggy problem.

I'm in the same position and have been told the P&T vibe is the best for taller toddlers as you can choose from a few positions for toddler. More expensive though

thanks ccpink, I'll check out the vibe then. It maybe wasn't that one I looked at in the shop. I know I definitely tried DD in a sport and one other, but which one is a mystery! I'm hoping to get a second hand one so hopefully there'll be a plentiful supply of second hand vibes if that looks suitable.

MillyMollyMoo, I'm happy she'll fit in it fine once the little seat is fitted underneath, it's just the first bit when the little seat has to go on top that's concerning me.

Ah i see, give her an umbrella if it rains, more fun than being stuck under a raincover anyway

Hi - i had this problem when I tried the sport and vibe out at mothercare. The vibe is slightly taller but not a great deal. I decided that it wasn't a problem for older toddlers or toddlers who don't need to nap or short trips as head could just stick out the top (and not recline seat). In the end I decided not to get a P&T as it just looked too uncomfy for my young but tall ds who will be 15.5 months when ds comes along. I have blown the bank and got an Icandy peach instead.

Bit of a late reply, I know, but we had a similar problem. DS is really tall for his age (2 1/2)and would have had hardly any room in the toddler seat on the sport. The vibe was a little big bigger, but I was still unsure.
In the end, we went for a Phil&Teds classic twin. It is a side by side instead of a tandem, but the seat height was lots better for him and looks as if it will last a fair while. I know what you mean about narrow doors etc, our is a 1920's house and the P&T was the only side by side that would fit through the door, it's only 73cm wide (narrower than any of the umbrella folds, even though it looks massive)
Anyway, I've been using it with DS and DD for seven weeks now and I love it.
Hope you find a solution !

pramdithering · 16/02/2010 16:06

ooo, 73cm might be do-able. I'll measure the door this evening. Thanks.

I've been getting nowhere looking at other options and was starting to think sling and p&t until DC2 was old enough to go in the 2nd seat. However, I'd really prefer having the option of putting them both in a pram so I'll get measuring!

I have a P&T Sport with my tall toddler. I was limited in choice because I've got a Polo and not many doubles will fit in the boot.

DS is in the front on the doubles seat at the moment because DD is only 8 weeks old and needs to lie flat. The hood touches his head if pulled over.

But...I decided that 1) as we'd used the rain cover on our original buggy so infrequently (mostly because DS screamed if I tried to put it on but also because if it rained that hard, we stayed in or took the car) that I would probably not use the P&T rain cover much either 2) It was only going to be for 6 months until DD was big enough to sit up and 3)the Vibe just wasn't worth the extra money.

and as MillyMollyMoo says - an unbrella is much more fun anyway

needanamefast · 16/02/2010 16:43

I have a tall 2 and half year old and think the P+T sport is fine.
We just don't put the little hood - and put raincover over loosely. DS loves it and calls it his den. He seems perfectly comfortable.

GoldenSnitch · 16/02/2010 17:17

Ooh, might try calling it a den - that might persuade DS to let me use the rain cover. Good idea Needaname
