Maxi cosi car seat, which buggy allows largest toddler and can face you

I have a very tall dd who is 27months, and am expecting in two months. She is almost 3 stone, and 96cm. I already have a maxi cosi car seat from when she was first born, however didn't bother incorporate this into a travel system when she was born.

I now would prefer to do so, as I don't think my car could carry a carrycot etc as that would take up to much space. Though could obviously take a carrycot etc when doing chores locally.

Ideally I would want the maxi cosi carseat to be able to fit on the chassis.
Secondly, that if my tall toddler decides to regress after the birth of my first she can fit into it and I'll carry bubs in a sling. I have tried put her in a Phil and Ted's and she is too big for it.
Thirdly I would really like baby to be able to face me as I've done the reading on research done on this.

Currently she goes in a Maclaren Techno buggy but even at the moment her feet touch the wheels.

Any ideas? I've looked at the Baby Jogger but that doesn't seem to allow you to reverse the seat for baby to face you, and the Quinny, I looked at in the shop and put dd in, and she wasn't comfortable at all.

I can't consider going for a twin side by side option as it wouldn't fit through the front door, and the tandem buggies just don't seem to really to cater for her size and the turning circle looks awful. I think at the moment I'm best off looking for a single buggy.

Any suggestions or experiences with this? even what to avoid.

Bugaboo Cameleon?

Lionstar · 13/02/2010 22:57

iCandy Apple (or the Cherry for a lighter life)?

Thanks for the suggestion on the Bugaboo, its a tad expensive and I've had a look it only goes up to 17kg so wouldn't be suitable.

Loola Up? Though I am told can be heavy with a larger toddler. Takes a buggy board well if you need that. (Though if it is ok with a buggy board, it must not be too heavy with a toddler in?)

You will probably have to attach a harness (reins) though as the straps are a bit short. Alternatively you can get away with just putting the straps over the legs and not the arms, which also lets them lean forwards.

The seat lies flat and I used it from newborn without a carrycot, I just tucked DS in with blankets.

They are quite cheap second hand if you are not bothered about the warranty, and the old and new models take a Maxi Cosi car seat.

Unfortunately Loola is out, I could never take the carseat in and out when we viewed it in Mothercare (hubby could do this no problem), me I'm a wimp so unfortunately can't include the Loola.

a teutonia spirit s3(or any model)? they face you, have really long seats and they will add the car seat adaptors when they are building it for you. we have had one for 22 months now and use it daily and love it. you can get a soft carrycot too if space is an issue.

countrybump · 14/02/2010 14:19

Mountain buggy? Mine has an adaptor for a maxi cosi car seat, and the seat can recline fully for a baby (I also have a carry cot which can sit on the frame). My 3 year old will still happily sit in it and is very comfy.

Also, I have yet to find terrain that it can't cope with!

Mutsy Urban Rider or 4 Rider (lightweight version)? The Urban Rider also has an optional stadium style duo seat. You can get adaptors for the Maxi-Cosi for either chassis. I have the 4 rider and 87cm 2.2yo DD still has plenty of room in it - has had miles of use every day and is still in fab shape and very comfie for her. The carrycot is also great as it's a big one and sits very high on the chassis. When our new lo comes along in July I'm planning to add a buggyboard for DD and/or use the Ergo for either DC along with the buggy. Also, either chassis/package can be picked up 2nd hand on ebay very cheap compared to their brand new prices...

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming... I've not heard about the teutonia spirit, so am trying to look that one up, it does look nice.

The Mountain Buggy unfortunately is out as you can't have baby facing you unless its in the bassinet or car seat - though by all accounts a very good make.

I don't know anything about the Mutsy, - isn't it quite heavy to push and take alot of space in the boot?

The bebe confort trophy would work and I just happen to have one for sale if you'd like to have a look

Or the Emmaljunga's are built like tanks and rear facing but again they aren't cheap and you'd need to swap the car seat for a Britax first class.

Daisypod · 16/02/2010 10:06

The Pliko Switch would be good as that seat is huge but I do not think it would take the car seat unfortunately.

Chatanooga · 19/02/2010 23:18

The maxicosi mura 3 or 4.
For non parent facing once out the car seat you could use the bjcity elite and import your own toddler seat from www.countrymoosekids.Com this makes a very nifty tandem. I use it with my 6y old and 20m old. Very roomy. I have big kids for age. Easy to push. Small turning circle. Toddler seat v well made, well balanced and generous. Clips on and off super easy.

enimod · 21/02/2010 11:21

millymoo? Are you still seliing bebeconfort trophy air 6? i am really only wanting the chassis? how much?

hugglebuggle · 27/03/2010 23:19

Thanks for the suggestions, I've decided to go for the Teutonia Spirit 3 suggested by nicem which I've ordered today. I visited a retailer and my tall toddler was able to sit absolutely fine in the Teutonia, but no room in the Icandy or Mutsy, and the Teutonia goes up to 50lbs, so she still has a stone to be in it for if necessary. Another possible not on here, was the Mothercare My4 (as that too works with maxi cosi car seat), however I just didn't think the push was as good. I looked at the Oyster as well, but the quality just didn't seem as good to me,and just wasn't impressed.

The Teutonia can work with the maxi cosi car seat and I've got a compatible buggy board for it. It was very lovely to push with my toddler in (light as a feather, unlike the Phil and Teds, and Icandy) and the height of the carry cot is a lot more desirable than the bugaboo. Most importantly baby can face me.

Others suggested such as the Bugaboo Bee, I decided against as fitting the carseat to the chassis was a palava in the shop, the assistant couldn't do it, and also for a tall toddler I don't think she would have been comfortable. The maxicosi mura, I was advised was wide and heavy so didn't go for that one.

The Teutonia isn't a light Maclaren, but importantly it means my toddler can fit into it for another year (She has outgrown the Maclaren really), but also if I want the carseat option for short trips this will enable this.
