Jane slalom reverse

Hi all,

I've been looking at prams etc (a little early, but I was thinking of an emmaljunga and they have to be ordered), and I spotted that Jane are releasing a slalom reverse in March.

I'm really tempted by it. I liked the look of the slalom pro, but didn't like that it doesn't face backwards. Now that they've fixed that, it could be perfect.

Has anyone heard anything about it (maybe from friends in Spain)? And does anyone have good or bad experiences with the original slalom?

Thanks very much!

I've tried out the original Slalom but not the new one. It was very bulky so you'd need a big boot if you wanted to put it in the car, but it gave a very smooth comfortable ride and had a very padded seat. I found the brake on the handle bar a really useful feature, which takes all the weight away when you're going down hill.

I didn't like the car seat though so personally would buy a non-compatible car seat like Maxi Cosi / Britax instead. The basket is quite small too, so depends whether that would bother you.

everylittlebeat · 09/02/2010 09:22

one other thing I've remembered: the seat didn't go very upright which is fine for younger babies but not ideal as they get older. might have been fixed for the new model though...

Lulabell · 09/02/2010 09:41

It would mainly be for a walking pram, as we live in London, so I'll get a sling/maclaren for public transport and shops. But we would have to ship it to the French countryside several times a year, so that might be a problem in a ford fiesta.

Is the basket a "barely fits the raincover in it" type?

Btw, what did you decide on in the end?

Thanks for answering

We got a Britax Vigour 3+ which I love. Would highly recommend it! The 2009 model is even better as the pushchair unit is suitable from birth (though you can also buy a separate carrycot).

Sorry can't remember exactly the size of the Slalom basket. I seriously don't think you'd want to try fitting the Slalom in a Fiesta!!

MrsBadger · 09/02/2010 10:04

I think if you take the wheels off you'd get it in a Fiesta, but there wouldn't be room for much else

no sturdy comfy 3wheelers fold really small though

Lulabell · 09/02/2010 11:57

Britax looks good actually. How's the carseat though, they look a little cramped?

Mrs Badger, do you happen to have a comfy 3 wheelers of choice?

Are there any 4wheelers that are reliable offroad?

Thanks very much again!

I have a slalom pro and love it. With the back wheels off and a bit of a squeeze it does fit in my KA but I don't put it in there very often.

MrsBadger · 09/02/2010 13:13

I have a Maclaren MX3 which is ace but no longer made, and tbh the suspension leaves a bit to be desired.

The Slalom is good, but if there is even the slightest chance you will have another child within 3yrs, do think about getting a P&T that will easily convert to a double.

everylittlebeat · 09/02/2010 15:53

Britax car seat is fine - not cramped at all, whereas the Jane one was extremely snug and also a bit tricky to fit. The Britax car seat is also one of the safest on the market (and no i don't work for them )

Lulabell · 09/02/2010 17:11

There is a chance we'll have another child in that time, but I would prefer something rear-facing. Also, my mother has decided she's paying and it has to be rear-facing (I don know why she's got such a bee in her bonnet about it). The P&Ts don't look very snug for a newborn, are they quite comfy?

Good to know about the Britax seat, thank for that!

dizzymac thanks for a good review has it lasted well btw? I'd hope for it to last more than one child

we've the teutonia spirit s3 for this very reason! i had decided on the slalom pro or the quinny speedi but didn't like the fact that once the baby was out of the carrycot it would be ff. 22 months later and we still use it daily rf! we had a carrycot for it and ds was a big baby and still lasted in it to 6 months. good luck

dizzymac · 09/02/2010 18:54

I got it for DD2 4 years ago and just got it out again for DC3. Its well loved, but then I was rough with it. It has very few scratches on it though and the only issue is that I cut the front brake cable as it annoyed me! this has made no difference to the pram. I fully expect to get a good couple of years at least out of it.

Lulabell · 09/02/2010 19:10

Good to know dizzy, thanks. Looks like it might be good for me.

I'll have a look at the Teutonia nicm, thanks. If the slalom had rear-faced, like the new one will, would you have gone for it?

probably as one of the mums i cm for has one and it has lasted her 3 kids and she is rough with things too.

the only thing that put me off slightly was the the customer service for jane was supposed to be poor but we are local to the uk importers so thought if i had to i would camp out on their doorstep lol! but they are very nice looking prams and i love the matrix car seats.

Lulabell · 09/02/2010 20:53

Good to hear, thanks very much

I have an old style slalom pro and a fiesta. No problems here... I love, love love the slalom and am a bit of a pram addict. If it turned rear facing it would be my dream pram and I'd sell all my others to get one. Heck, I'd sell my H if I had to.

The slalom fits in my fiesta with one wheel off and I could fit shopping around it. It also fits in our fiat panda, again with one wheel off.

I had a matrix for DD and a rebel for DS. Loved the matrix, but I was travelling further with DD and wanted her lying flat. DS was mainly short journeys, so I used to put him in the rebel to travel (he's still in it at 11months) then transfer him to the matrix on the chassis.

It's a fab pram and just not comparable with a P and T. I have both and much prefer the slalom. It's just all round better. I find the basket smaller on the P and T too. Can get loads in the slalom basket if you're canny.

Lulabell · 21/02/2010 15:57

Just seen this, thanks oldspeckledtam that's a brilliant review

I have a Red Jane Slalom Pro which I bought in June 2008.I've just had a very frightening experience in that my 19 month old woke up,must have climbed back up the pram and the pram tilted back! She fell out and has a very nasty bruise on her head.I was right beside it at the time. Can't believe it could tilt back so easily on a wooden floor. She is small for her age and not very heavy so I would have expected more stability.Has anyone else had this problem?

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but does anyone know whether the Matrix car seat will fit in a Fiesta? I read something that said it might not...
