Silver Cross Sleepover - or any alternatives

Hi

As we are travelling to spain when dc is only 8 weeks old I'l like him/her to be able to sleep overnight in the pram for the two weeks we are there. And I'd need to be able to get pram and carseat onto a BMI flight.

Does anyone know how I'd go about getting this pram and carseat on the flight. Can I take frame and carseat to the gate and load the pram/seat body in the hold?

First time travelling with new baby can you tell!

Should I give up this idea and get a foldable buggy (do they do lie flat ones parent facing ones) plus a travel cot. Seems a pity since the SC Sleepover is a present which we will already have and which would do the job perfectly if we can get it there.

TIA

I flew back from Australia when dd was five weeks old and had a huge emmaljunga pram, I rolled up to the gate and they put the whole thing in the hold, car seat and all. I would imagine a budget airline will charge you excess backage though.

reading on their website you probably won't have a problem with the pram - its how you get the car seat in that will be the question. You can check it in, as part of your hold allowance (unlimited items up to 20kg) but whether you want to do that or not I'm not sure - having a similar dilema myself!

Thanks I will call them to clarrify I think. I don't want to get to check in and be faced with a problem....but I'd rather not change our pram plans either just for two week holiday out of 2+years of use.

the last holiday to spain we had was when dd was 8 months old.
we were told that only pushchairs that could fold in one piece could go to the gate and be carried free of charge- if it was 2 peice fold it would go as excess baggage. Luckily we have an Inglesina Outtoto and this can fold in one piece ( with lots of practice). We bought a huge bag for it from kiddicare for about a tenner to put it in at the gate and this meant that the hood, bumper bar etc were all safe and still there when it came out the other end.

when you check, i would specifically ask about this as there was another family at check out that hadnt realised who faced a big charge(or big argument- cant remember how it was resolved!)

we have flown twice in Europe since DS was born and never occurred to take the silver cross, it's just so bulky! we bought a cheap buggy which folded down neat and compact for the flight so it could stay in the hold. I do understand though that you don't want to buy another one just for the sake of two weeks abroad.
