double buggy and buggy board - help!

Hi.

our nanny needs to transport two 1 yr olds and a 3 yr old. Can anyone advise the best double buggy and buggy board combination??

I am slowly going crazy as everything i have researched so far either doesnt have enough head room for the toddler (out n about - we have one of these already and it's a shame we cant use it) , or is hard to push for the nanny with 3 of them on board (e.g. mcclaren). we would prefer a side by side double buggy.

any help much appreciated!

Mountain buggy urban? Similar to the nipper but bigger and not too much heavier

ega0603 · 15/01/2010 11:10

thanks daisypod. i have seen those and they look great, just quite spenny even second hand. i have had a look on the lascal website and they recommend the cosatto lunar twin and inglesina twin swift...does anyone have any experience of those with a buggy board?

my friend just bought this cgi.ebay.co.uk/Air-Buggy-Mimi-Double-Black-Brand-New-RRP-639-99_W0QQitemZ270511859080QQcmdZViewItemQ QptZUKBabyBabyTravelPushchairsGL?hash=item3efbc36588 i had a look/play today and its actually really good and she has a buggyboard on it and its still light to push. i am going to get one as well, i was so impressed. they have them for £239.99 delivered on a buy it now listing. i also have a mountain buggy which i love and use daily for the school run with two buggyboards on (i have year old twins and a 5and 4 year old) but i am at a loss without a buggy in the car as i keep going out without it. is only 14.8kg, the mountain buggy is 18kg.

mel, this is fantastic. thanks so much! which buggy board fits the air buggy? and is there enough room for the toddlers head? and is it easy to walk - of do you have to stick your bottom out?? also #239 seems a bit too good to be true!

regarding the mountain buggy you have got already....which boards do you use for it? and again is there head room, and is walking comfortable?

thanx

Why doesn't she use a sling for one of the 1 year olds and the double buggy for the other two? The Ergo is a great sling that is so comfortable and starightforward to wear and can be used from birth to 40lbs. You can carry toddlers on your back with it. I am a childminder and this is the combo I use quite often, especially if we have to be crossing busy roads then it's much safer to have the baby/toddler strapped to your back.

ega0603 · 15/01/2010 18:38

thanks for that suggestion. i'm not sure i could ask to do carry my toddler - she is 14.1 kilos...

Believe me, she wouldn't even know she had a toddler on her back the sling is that comfy- it shifts all the weight onto the hips so you don't feel anything on your shoulders. I carry the toddler on my back with it and manage to push a double buggy! It's a great way to get fit too! My own DS weighs 2 stone and I can carry him around all day when I'm doing the cleaning at home!

the kiddy board and the kid-sit board both fit on it. i currently have two kiddyboards on the mountain buggy, also a single kid-sit would fit as well. there is more room for toddler heads between the handle on the mountain buggy (which is adjustable) but my five year old fitted ok on the airbuggy. the handle isnt adjustable on the airbuggy. i dont have a problem with either walking with a buggyboard. if you are only using one you could have it on one side anyway.
the airbuggy is great and it comes with a raincover and great suncover. i saw one in john lewis and i think mothercare were on the list of stockists. they are big in japan but i dont think they made it here so they have been sent to clearance. to be honest not alot of people would spend £650 on a buggy that they cant find any reviews on,i thought the same when i saw it in john lewis a while ago. when we saw them on e-bay we e-mailed people who had bought it from e-bay, to ask them what they thought and we had some great feedback so my friend bought one and i have now bought one as well. its quite alot nippier than the mountain buggy as its lighter and has smaller air tyres. its got much better fabrics than the baby jogger mini city double and much better wheels.
for the money the airbuggy is a great buy, my only concern is where to get replacement tyres as they are not the standard 12" wheels. but i suppose its like replacing solid tyres on other buggies i would have to get them from the manufacturer. that will be a few years away hopefully.

mel2005 · 15/01/2010 22:25

i will take a photo of my five year old on the buggyboard and the headroom for you tomorrow so you can see if its ok.

BibiThree · 15/01/2010 22:27

Nipper is no good with a buggy board, the handle goes across where the board rider's head should be. Awkward and we used it a grand total of about 3 times.

mel2005 · 15/01/2010 22:28

actually i have found smaller tyres to fit the airbuggy on e-bay so that wouldnt be a problem.

mel2005 · 15/01/2010 22:29

actually there is a bar in the middle of the handle on the airbuggy so the board would have to go on one side.

MrsToffeeCrisp · 15/01/2010 22:33

How about a Jane powertwin with a Jane surfer board?

Not a side by side option but maybe worth considering?

mel2005 · 16/01/2010 12:35

i had a jane powertwin with a surfer board, it was good, folds all in one and lightweight (14/15kg) except i couldnt have the hood on the front seat as the child in the back would pull on it all the time because they were sitting higher. take care buying really old ones (pre pro) with the spokes as you might end up tightening the spokes every time its used.

ega0603 · 16/01/2010 14:40

ladies, this is so useful!

does it matter if the board is on one side on the air buggy?? i guess it affects the balance. mel, a photo would be fab!

re; the mountain buggy. would both the kiddy board (not made anymore) and the buggy board maxi (the new one by lascal) fit it?

also i saw on the 'chariots all terrain' website that the kiddy boards dont fit all the mountain buggies and that they adapted the mountain buggy to fit a board from a certain year so old second hand mountain buggies probably wouldnt be of use. makes it difficult buying one second hand! i dont suppose anyone knows/??

having trouble loading a photo, will have another play with it tomorrow.
its the really old mountain buggies that the kiddy boards do not fit. if you get an adjustable handle one you will be fine. they are post 2005 buggies.
i am not sure about the maxi boards but you can get kiddyboards from ebay for as little as £10. i have three and they all came from e-bay and didnt cost much. i like them as they are so easy to get on and off, just a small button to push.

i have been out with my eldest on a kiddy board on one side and it was fine. it was quite good as i could walk on the other side.

JjandtheBeanisaTwislut · 17/01/2010 22:30

i used an icandy pear with an obaby buggy board on, was a dream to use as the toddler on the board is inside the handle so i could walk normally!

ega0603 · 21/01/2010 18:44
