Repairing a raincover?

Before I get out the black gaffer tape, thought I would check here in case anyone has a better idea! It's for an ancient freecycle buggy to live at the in-laws' so not tooooo bothered about appearances.

It's a Maclaren raincover and the bits near the holes that go over the pegs have ripped - I think this is probably a fairly common problem would have tension on it?

I was thinking some sort of clear tape... any ideas?

I have repaired a raincover like this. I used clear Duck tape over the ripped bits and then used epoxy resin all over the tape, going well over the edges of the tape onto the plastic of the cover. It is probably easiest to do this with the buggy up and the raincover on. Use an old lolly stick or similar for spreading it as it will have to be discarded after use. The epoxy then needs to "go off" for a good 24 hours before folding. Epoxy is really strong and will stay nice and clear, whereas Bostik will go a nasty yellow colour after a few weeks.

Ooh, I didn't know you could get clear Duck tape! We have an ace hardware store in Norwich so I will pop down there tomorrow and get some.

Did you use the two-tube epoxy? I have some in the shed somewhere but just wondering if it might dry a bit too rigid.

Yes, I used two-tube epoxy, and it would set quite firm, but if it is the holey bits then it will need a bit of strength if it is not to rip again. The epoxy will still flex with the plastic as long as it is not too thick. If appearance is not important, you could use Bostik, but it does go a dirty yellowish colour quite quickly.
Good luck with the repair.
