Our baby is due the first week of March. From your experience would you buy a cocoon or the sleeping bag for a Phil and Teds Sport?? Thanks

I think they have very different purposes. We used the coccoon when DS2 was very young - it was handy to move him from pushchair whilst he was asleep and so on, and could double as a carrycot if we were out for the evening with him. However, the sleeping bag will last a lot longer as it is essentially a cosy-toes so at 2 years old, DS2 still uses it (and we've used it as a camping sleeping bag too!). HTH. Good luck with your baby!

Cocoon is great for newborns, we've used it as twolittlemonkeys has, for moving DS2 around and as a carrycot.

However, he is 10 weeks now and he can only squeeze in it if his head is touching the top and his feet are against the bottom. Not good value for money as we bought it new.

Having said that, the resale value on ebay is good and I don't think I would have been happy with him not in anything other than a cosy-toes thing at first.

We're now deciding what to do with him for the next couple of months or so until he can go in the doubles seat...!

I would also bear in mind that the cocoon might only last a couple of months - by the time we got round to buying our P&T, DD2 wouldn't fit in it! We just put a moses basket mattress plus blankets in the bottom of the lie flat bit, and she was snug as anything. The cocoon is probably worth it for the convenience of being able to carry sleepy baby around, but only if you've got the cash to splash (and/or you've got short genes in your family and think you'll have a nice small baby - fingers crossed for that anyway!).

You might not need either as you'll be heading into Spring then (optimistic maybe!), and you can reconsider your needs next winter.

flowerybeanbag - x posts! Try the moses basket mattress idea, worked for me and some friends of mine...

Thanks v much. Thought the cocoon may have short term use so have been looking on ebay. You might as well buy a new one and sell it afterwards, it's amazing what people will pay!! Thanks for you advice.

Just in case anyone else is wondering if you can use alternatives to the phil and teds cocoon. We previously had a maclaren XLR carrycot for our first baby. I was delighted to find that it fits quite nicely in the Phil and teds.* I haven't had the second baby yet but I reckon it will be perfect. The maclaren carrycot has firmer sides and it is possibly a bit longer.

*I had to remove the plastic insert out of the footend to get it to fit
