emmaljunga twin nitro, or, teutonia alu s4?

going crazy looking at pushchairs.

had my heart set on the stroll-air my duo, which I had ordered and was getting shipped from america.
Unfortunately it keeps being delayed (it's in production atm), and so I have given upo

so, currently looking at these 2 but just can't decide.
thought I would go for the teutonia, but will it be too wide?? I have a double mountain buggy atm which is jsut about ok widthwise and fits through most doors, but the teutonia is a couple of inches wider.

the emmaljunga is not much wider than the MB, but doesn't look as nice as the teutonia, and is a lot more money!!

argh!

I like that the Teutonia has reversable seats, have you thought of the Emmaljunga city twin?

nicm · 11/01/2010 20:13

i have the teutonia spirit s3 and would buy the double if i had another. have been really happy with it. the seat is very long too for longer toddlers.

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 20:32

the emmaljunga has a reversible seat too, so can have them facing me

nicm, that's good to know abotu the teutonia! i tried the children in a first wheels city twin and couldn't put the hood up because ds2 was too tall for the seat!

Does it have to be a side by side buggy? We have the ABC Zoom and the seats can fit either way, though we tend to have the kids facing each other. Its like a wide single buggy and no longer than some of the other tandem buggies. It does have to be taken apart to fold, but its pretty simple to do.

Sorry, I can't be much help on the two you are currently considering, neither of them would fit through our front door (we have a rather narrow hall!)

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 21:27

yeah def want side by side. i had a bebe confort twin club, but it was way too heavy and hard to get up and down kerbs
i also tried the boys in the bebecar vector duo, which was better than the twin club, but still not great.

I love how light and easy to push the mountain buggy is, and i want to replicate it but rear-facing! an impossible task it would seem lol

I feel your pain- but can't help. All the pushchairs mentioned are on my 'parent facing double' spreadsheet but I am obsessing and going round in circles but not getting any closer to making a decision.
Disappointed to hear about the first wheels- I had high hopes for that and have stopped a few people pushing them in the street who had high praise. Have you managed to see the others 'in the flesh'?
Sorry- no help at all- just a show of support from a fellow sufferer

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 21:58

not seen any others yet, but there is a shop called the baby lady, which is in kent and I am considering going over there to look at the emmaljunga and the teutonia this coming weekend (tisd an hour and a half drive though!!!)

i am so in love with the stroll air, but as it's coming from america i can't try it at all and i'm worried i'll have the same problem as the first wheels with the seats being too small.

hmmm

OP posts:
nicm · 11/01/2010 22:38

the teutonia is so easy to push if that helps-ds is 35lbs and 20 months rf. probably like the mountain buggy. the emmaljunga would be nice to push too i guess. we tried the single emmaljunga out before we had ds.

rightsaidfred · 11/01/2010 22:41

The stroll air does look perfect on paper- but so many buggies don't seem as good in real life and I am very reluctant to buy without trying (made that mistake before with the loola). My current favs the first wheels city twin and the bebecar vector duo but you have ruled both out already.
I have the seat measurements for the stroll air if you haven't already seen them- not sure how they compare to the first wheels?
What was wrong with the bebecar? I am seriously considering as none of the side by sides will fit through my front door and will have to go in a bike shed out front.

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 22:46

yeah, i have seen a lot of goood press on the teutonias. and tried a single one out and loved it.

the problem is it weighs over 20kg, and i need to be able to lift it into the car boot and i[m not sure i can!
hmmm
if i can try them out that will solve the problem i guess!

OP posts:
MoochingNoshingPondering · 11/01/2010 22:48

At least the Stroll Air gives you the seat measurements for comparision.

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 22:52

yeah the stroll-air is a couple of inches taller than the first wheels on the seat. but that doesn't give a lot extra bearing in mind ds2 was too tall for the FW.

the reasons i wasn't keen on the bebecar were:
1.)quite long
2.)hard to tip up to get up kerbs
3.)you're supposed to have the lighter child at the front (to help with the getting up kerbs etc) but it was weird having the baby so far away
4.) it was ok to push along right now, but can't imagine what it would be like once both children were older and heavier.
5.) the adjustable handle felt like it might get loose over time as you're putting a lot of strain on it to move the pushchaiur up and down

I think it depends what kind of use you have for it though. if you're bnasicaly just on flat pavements and in shopping centres it's probably fine.
but i walk to school, and in and out of town a lot, so plenty of kerbs to go up and down (hence my fixation on this!) and bumps and stuff.

the mountain buggy just fits through my front door. which means the teutonia won't, and the emmaljunga is probably not going to- might at a squeeze.
tbh it's usually kept in the boot of the car though, or i get the babies out at the door and then fold it and bring it in

or, should i just save my money and go for a second hand babystyle lux on ebay?

gah

bojangles · 11/01/2010 22:58

Prob not much help but I have the emmaljunga nitro as a single and I really like it. Really good build quality and actually light for an emmaljunga...but the teutonia looks good too - I had a really big herqules twin but I never actually used it as it weighed 20+kg and was just too wide - I understand the need to want the little ones cosy but I would go for the lighter model and the one that will get through your door - I would have loved a mountain buggy...don't suppose your selling?

thisisyesterday · 11/01/2010 23:18

bojangles, yes i'll be selling the mountain buggy once i get my replacement

it's the double terrain, and i have a carrycot with it too (old style)

I have the Emmaljunga Twin cerox 360, which I think is the version of the Nitro double you mention. I bought it about 9 months ago in London (shop in Notting Hill) and although outrageously expensive it has been fantastic. My son was in it until at least 3 and half, and my daughter could still fit in it and it was fine to push when she was 5 and half (when she wanted to sit next to baby for short bits...! ) I am expecting ds2 in a few weeks, and can't wait to get it out again. Have never used it facing forward, although it does reverse. I often get stopped and asked about it as there are so few rear facing doubles.
I too got completely obsessed, but as soon as I had made my choice I was delighted!!

thisisyesterday · 12/01/2010 18:42

thanks louloubelle.

i think really the price is the main thing putting me off the emmaljunga.
ds2 is 2 now and i kind of feel like it could be a huge waste of money... but i dunno.

rightsaidfred · 12/01/2010 23:11

Thanks for reporting back on the vector duo. I walk loads- uphill into town and dog walking so it's not looking so good. Plus I really need something I can get secondhand if possible. I probably need to go and try one. Funny- I don't mind having DS1 closest to me at the moment but I suppose I might feel different when this new one arrives.
I was just searching the completed items on ebay and some twin city crosses seem to have gone ridiculously cheap recently though none near me- although I did see one in a charity shop a while back for £85. I am begining to wish I had snapped it up. Would secondhand be an option for you?

louloubelle · 13/01/2010 09:48

I know when I was trying to bid a couple of times on ebay for good condition twin cerox 360's they disappeared very quickly, and at high prices...but that was 9 months ago...So you could justify it by assuming you'd get a good resale on it!

thisisyesterday · 13/01/2010 13:53

yeah second hand is an option

i just spoke to a shop and she said that the lead time on the twin nitro is going to be a good 6 weeks.
in which case i may as well wait for the stroll-air to ship from america.

i can get the teutonia immediately, but still worried about weight and width. i think if the seat unit comes off fairly easily it'd be ok as i can get it into the car in 2 pieces.

i have been searching ebay but not much on there atm

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 13/01/2010 13:59

louloubelle, how do you find the twin cerox width-wise?
a brief google tells me it's about 80cm wide, which is the same as the teutonia (i think!) so i'd be interested to hear if you have trouble getting through doors!

OP posts:
louloubelle · 14/01/2010 11:39

I have got stuck once in a tiny lift, but never had any problems otherwise. Did you try phoning the Notting Hill pram shop to see if they have any in stock?

thisisyesterday · 14/01/2010 16:25

i'm going to canterbury on saturday to the baby lady shop to try out the teutonia and an emmaljunga she has in stock so will report back!!!

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 16/01/2010 14:28

ok, have just got back from canterbury

can highly recommend the baby lady shop there! also online, was very good

we've purchased the teutonia!!

was SO nice to push, felt really light even with both kids in, nice suspension and HUGE seats

I didn't try the emmaljunga out to push, she brought the seat unit out and we sat the kids in and it was obviously not really going to be big enough so i didn't try the whole thing

I could fit my 2 in it ok, but they were quite snug (age 2, and 6 months) and I definitely wouldn't have got them both in in cosy-toes/thick coats etc

also, in the brochure the emmaljunga is 79.5cm wide, the teutonia is 80cm wide, so the difference is minimal.
it looks VERY wide compared to the mountain buggy but we'll see how it goes in real life.
unfortunately i hadn't taken the MB out of the boot, so we couldn't bring the teutonia home with us today, but it's arriving next week so will report back if anyone wants to know more!

oh, the seat of the teutonia comes off really easily, so i don't think the weight will be a problem as i'll just remove the seat to put it into the car- the parts separately arent' that heavy at all!

Excllent news- glad the misery is over and you have found something you are happy with. Please reoprt back whenyou have given it a full workout.
I may well end up trekking over to Canterbury myself. Can I ask a couple of cheeky questions?
Do the Emmaljunga and Teutonia both fold with the seat on?
And where did you manage to see the Bebecar and the First Wheels? I am in SW London but prepared to travel to avoid making an expensive mistake- but I have contacted loads of stockists of both and no one seems to have a display model in the showroom. Very frustrating.
