Double for giant toddler and a newborn?
chamoiscreased · 18/12/2009 14:16
Does anything exist that will enable me to leave the house ever again once my next baby is born?!
DS is the size of a 4-5 year old but isn't able to sit up or walk. Looking at the phil & teds they seem to accommodate quite large children. I don't understand the differences between all the types but I'm worried that none of them seem too suitable for a newborn and a child who can't sit by themselves..or am I wrong? The toddler seat looks very upright to me which DS couldn't manage.
The p&t twin looks posibly more suitable as DS could sit reclined, but has anyone got any opinions on how good they are and how big a child can really be and still fit?
Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Am starting to worry I will be housebound until someone learns to walk! Have considered using a sling but have an old back injury which I'm worried might return.

Does your DS have special needs?
What about the icandy pear
Bebecar vector

Easy Walker Duo - huge roomy seats but also suitable for a newborn. Y ou can affix carrycot/maxi cosi car seat but my DD just went in the seat fully reclined from birth and it was fine.
Soooo easy to push and although it looks big and cumbersome it's quite deceptive and can easily fit through most single doors. Folds easily although not exactly small and what I prefer over say the nipper/mountain buggy is that it has separate hoods so was able to put single shade a babe over baby in the summer etc.
Good Luck!
Ps I also inherited a p and t e3 but much much much prefer the easy walker!

Thank you for the ideas! Those are all very smart, Mistletoe. DS does have special needs. I worry that a lot of the doubles say they only go up to age 3, and DS is bigger than your average 3 year old. The roomy seats on the Easy Walker sound promising though - what size child do you think you could squeeze into yours, weddingcake?!

Have had a 4 year old in a big winter coat in there so definitely worth a try for you!

I think a double mothercare urban detour also has quite big seats

My ds1 who is 4.5 years fit in my single urban detour when really tired. He is big for his age same height as 5-6 yo. If the double detour has similar sized seats it should be fine.

MBs have huge seats and more available 2nd hand than an easy walker which has only just come out really in the UK. My v.large 3 yo fits in there easy and so does my 6yo. The point about the hood is a good one though, the hood on the MB is cr&p.
P&T pretty difficult to move around with heavy toddler in IMO esp if you have back problems. I find it a real struggle turning the corner with it. On the other hand, mb still fine with dt's in there (14 mo) and ds2 (3) on the buggy board.
All of the 3 wheelers are more of a reclined position because they're bucket seats, sounds as though that would suit your ds tho?
Baby joggers are well thought of too, I have a mini double but it's a bit small for 3yo with coat on, maybe have a look at the Elite which is the next model up.

i would second the mountain buggy, my 5 year old fits in fine. its easy to push with very different weights in each side. the basket is easy to get in and is big. i havent had a problem with the hood on mine. we have just been to eurodisney in the deep snow with my 3 and 5year old on buggyboards on the back with no problem at all. its also one of the narrowest sidebysides on the market. you can also get a carrycot for the new baby on one side.
the icandy and the bebecar vector seats will be too small for your eldest and it would be difficult to use with the weight differences. the phil and teds would be difficult to use with a newborn and a big toddler as the toddler seat is small.
