Am I silly?

Do you think I am silly looking at getting a parent facing pushchair for my DS who will be 1 on New Years Eve?

My DS loves it when I go around to the front of our current pushchair and talk to him, he always gives me a huge grin. Most people I talk to are looking at getting Maclaren's or something lightweight when their child/ren are of similar age, so if you don't think I am being silly then which are the best ones?

what are you using at the moment?

IsItMeOrSanta · 16/12/2009 20:52

Maybe a bit, but it's your money and your DS. Would you consider buying a second hand one? I'm still using my Loola Up with 9mo DS in parent facing mode. I wouldn't recommend it if you're a regular public transport user as it is too big for that. You will need to get the longer straps (the supplier should be able to help with this) for your DS, but with those, it should last another year I would guess.

SleighGirl · 16/12/2009 20:54

my dd was rear facing until she no longer used a pushchair regularly. was the only way I could understand what she saying to me!

nickytwotimes · 16/12/2009 20:56

No idea which ones, but no, not silly at all.

fluffydog · 16/12/2009 21:16

At the moment am using an XTS twister which we bought new before DS was born. And I don't mind buying 2nd hand.

We had a Twister: great for country walks, a bugger for taking out rails of clothes in shops!

Am pg with no 3 and am going to get rid of the Twister and another travel system languishing in the garage and buy a parent-facing one. They weren't really around when the other dcs were small but remember my mother pushing us in one.

If I was starting out the Bugaboo might be a good choice but IsItMeOrSanta's Loola recommendation looks good, have just looked at the video on the John Lewis website and will check out the reviews.

SleighGirl · 16/12/2009 21:35

Loola is not good for older children.

Bugaboo frog/gecko/cam is the way to go.

Heated · 16/12/2009 22:09

Darn it, really?

No way can I justify the price of a Bug to dh on last child.

MrsBadger · 16/12/2009 22:09

or try one of the trad ones eg the M&P Ultima type - v comfy for older/bigger children

many on ebay cheap eg thus
make sure you get one with the swivel wheels though, and they are bulky when folded (no worse than the Twister though)

SleighGirl · 16/12/2009 22:22

I@ve only ever had 2nd hand bugaboo and sold them on for the same price or at a profit!

IsItMeOrSanta · 17/12/2009 01:18

Sleighgirl not sure why you say Loola no good for older children - now I've got the bigger straps, can't see why it wouldn't last DH until about 2? Have read other MNers who have used it for that long no probs (apart from the recognised issue about the length of the straps).

fluffy and heated you can see the loola and loola up in most mothercare and john lewis stores ime. Why don't you have a look for yourself and try it out?

The only difference between the two is that the up has a single handle, rather than two.

SleighGirl · 17/12/2009 09:53

Compared to other pushchairs the loola is very heavy to use with older children in it. So that is a preference issue I guess. I have a bad back and the loola was one of those that just got too heavy to get up and down kerbs ver quickly IYSWIM.

SparklyGothKat · 17/12/2009 09:56

I had DS2 rearfacing till recently and he is 27 months. I used a bugaboo until he outgrew it. I have a britax strider atm which is rearfacing, but he has now outgrown that lol. So selling it.

IsItMeOrSanta · 17/12/2009 13:09

Thanks SleighGirl I hadn't thought of that! But the Bugaboo Cam weighs much the same, doesn't it?

accessorizequeen · 17/12/2009 13:47

Not remotely silly, he likes talking to you, you like talking to him. Lots of benefits. I just got a 2nd hand britax vigour 3 for my mum when she has ds2 and he's just turned 3 (but has speech probs). Wish I had parent-facing for my dt's, when they're a bit older & I can have a single & buggy board I will def get parent-facing (they're 14 months).

You can get frogs on ebay for about £100 or so these days btw, they're v.lightweight.

fluffydog · 17/12/2009 14:29

Would a bugaboo frog fit in the boot of a Rover Saloon car? Mind u the XTS fits but there is not much room for much else.

Hauck infinity is a robust rear facer, and good for older kids. CHeap as well, if you're only going to use it as a spare.

accessorizequeen · 17/12/2009 14:46

Frog fitted fine in my yaris so yes I would think so! Because it comes apart and the seat & shopping basket fold down (not flat), it's pretty easy to fit in really. Wish I still had mine, sold it to get a mountain buggy which was fab but not parent-facing.
Plenty of other parent facing ones out there, icandy do bugaboo copies of course. Do you need something for bus/car as well as walking? I get the impression cam bugaboo is better than frog tho don't know why but of course a lot more expensive.

fluffydog · 17/12/2009 19:12

Very rarely use the bus, usually do most things locally so walk but I do also use the car a bit and occasionally the train.

~Thanks for all the help tho'.

It's not the just the weight of the pushchair it's to do with the desing. I've have owned lots and lots and bugaboo was the lightest to push and steer one handed despite being quite a heavy pushchair IYSWIm. It is a very good design, it's not just the name you're paying for
