What pushchair would you use?

Atm ds 3 is on a buggy board and dd is in our bugaboo, but when dd2 arrives in march I really don't know what to do.

DD will be 18 months and she is very mobile and really doesn't like to go in the pushchair so I was considering getting one of these for dd and keeping the pushchair...... but then if she fall's asleep when we are out I am screwed.

This also means that ds won't have anywhere to stand/sit and if we are walking for a long time, which we do quite alot he will get tired and start to moan....

The other option is sell the bugaboo and buy maybe one of these

Dp doesn't want to spend another £600 on a phil and teds or other double.

I do have a sling that I will be using alot aswell but the bugaboo will be set up as a carrycot style so even if dd2 was in the sling ds or dd1 couldn't go in iyswim.

Sell Buggaboo and buy a Phil & Teds. Your DS1 can ride on the front if he gets tired (I know someone who did this with similar age gaps).

fernie3 · 03/12/2009 11:55

I had a nipper360 the two youngest in the seat and when the oldest was tired there is a triangle foot bit at the front she used to sit on. She still does now occasionally and she is 5!

nicolamumof3wisemen · 03/12/2009 11:57

Your DS will just have to walk unfortunately, and you will almost certainly need a double for DD. i had 18m gap between my two youngest. DS2 was 18m when DS3 born i didn't want a double but i think you will find you will use it daily to make life easier and safter. your oldest will be fine walking. My DS2 gave up double pushchair at 3yr 2m, then briefly used a board for 3m til i made him walk and built up his stamina i don't drive either.

recommend either a nipper 360 or a p&t both under £200 s/hand.

hettie · 03/12/2009 20:01

either nipper or P&T but second (so not £600!) plus if you flog the bug then you're probably only looking at £100 outlay

CarGirl · 03/12/2009 20:03

My eldest one had to walk she was 3 years & 6 weeks, she never liked the buggy board either.

accessorizequeen · 03/12/2009 20:09

I'd get a nipper double, probably less than £150 2nd hand. If you can possibly do it, hang onto the bugaboo as you'll end up using it again when dd is a bit older. You won't have a double for ever, so just see it as a temporary purchase. I know p&t is what most people buy with this age gap, but you've got 3 to transport, the nipper more useful, better made, easier to push & lighter to stick in the car!

JjandtheBean · 06/12/2009 13:14

you will need a double, i have a 16mnth age gap and couldnt be with out one still even though theyre 2.5 and 1.
I tried the sling and a single and it was impossible, and it would have been much worse if id had a 'loose' child aswell.

Im now selling my pear and maclaren for a p&t, fab for toddlers imo!

MillyMollyMoo · 07/12/2009 08:51

I had a twin techno and DD aged 3.5 just had to walk, but she was very good, we drove everywhere though and as the other said stayed in a lot, went to soft play things a lot where you parked at the door.

NaccetyMac · 08/12/2009 14:16

I had a 20 month gap, and was childminding as well - i used a P&T with a buggy board or sling.

PotPourri · 11/12/2009 21:14

I used to fit the two big ones on the buggy board - not all the time mind, just when both were whiney and tired. But the bigger ones just walked more (they both had a go of the buggy board and sometimes I had to agree with them when the crossover point would be)

Oh, and I got one of those little rucksacks with a 'lead' for the middle one who is cheekier and runs off!

PotPourri · 11/12/2009 21:17

I had a nipper for longer walks. it is fine for the big one to sit on the footrest - but not for too long. One day DD was on it for ages and it cut the blood off to her legs - I felt sooooo guilty

poorbuthappy · 11/12/2009 21:24

Another vote for nipper double using front foot rest as extra seat...if you have a dog you can tie them to the front and hey presto, you don't even have to push...

(disclaimer...we don't do this very often...honestly...the kids think its great!!)

thatsnotmymonster · 11/12/2009 21:36

Definitely a P+T's. I have had all sorts of buggys and it is the best by far.

My eldest was 3yr 6 wks when 3rd was born. I got it new on Kiddicare for less than £300 with full doubles kit (it is bright pink though)! You could also get one on ebay.

My dd1 who was 21mths had only just started walking so I really needed a double but she would also still sleep in it etc. She still goes in it a lot at 3.5.

Don't get anything else!

ChaosInCamelot · 11/12/2009 21:43

I had 3 under 4 for a few months. I got a p & t when I had dc3 but had not had a double previously for the 1st 2 dc's. When dc2 was born I used a sling / buggy board combo and that was fine. I thought that with 3 I would need the p&t and it has been great,
I did get the odd comment of 'why don't you just have one on buggy board and baby in sling', but I felt more secure knowing that the youngest two were strapped in and then it was easier to hold dc1s hand or dart off after him quickly should he run off for some reason. That would have been difficult carrying a baby in a sling.
Dc1 is a good walker though and has been since age 2 ish. If he had been more like dc2 (slow and clumsy walker!), then I might have got myself a sturdy side by side double and put older two in and baby in sling with a view to booting the eldest out a few months later!
My poor dc1 walks for miles with the younger two wrapped all snuggly in the p&t looking out at him!

Baby Jogger city mini. They're bringing out their own buggy board soon too, it's a really easy one to fold. It's lightweight. Having owned a bugaboo you will appreciate the high standard of quality and build. The practical functionability and seats large enough to take a preschooler! It's very light. They're under 300 for the double on ebay too. I saw one irl on the bus this week. They really look fab. Very practical. Also lovely to look at!
