hello,

I have just bought a Phil& Teds doubles sport pushchair. I will be using it for a 2 yr old and a newborn. Afetr setting it up, Im not all the happy with the way the toddler goes on top initially. It doesnt look comfy and and i much prefer the way it is supposed to go once the baby can sit unaided ie. with the baby in the doubles kit underneath and the older child in the 'proper' seat.

Has anyone used it this way before the baby is 5 0r 6mths old? I know the newborn needs to be flat, but the doubles kit does recline slightly so could i use it with a head support maybe?

Hope this isnt too confusing. I love the pushchair but i anm not keen on the way it is currently set up

Have you actually tried your 2yo in it? I have a 2.6yo and a newborn, and DS1 absolutely loves it on top with DS2 underneath - he thinks it's great being up high and isn't uncomfortable at all.

DS2 goes in the cocoon underneath. I wouldn't be happy with a newborn in the doubles seat even with a head support tbh.

yes ive tried him, just in the house though as havent used it yet. HE DOESNT seem bothered but i think it doesnt look secure

I really wouldn't put a newborn in the doubles seat, even reclined, it is far too upright. What is wrong with the seat on top? It was fine for us, ds was happy enough, think he slept in it too so can't have been that bad!

Youre right i know, im just being silly. I think its because it just looks really alien to me. Most of the P& T's i see around have an older baby in them with the toddler so the doubles kit is at the back.

I think its just that it looks like it might topple over

It does look a bit odd I know but it is secure You've probably seen loads in that position but never eralised it as you don't really see the baby unless you are looking for it.

yes probably! Thanks for putting my mind at rest

Carmen, I tend to agree with you although I haven't actually owned a P&T. I am looking for a double buggy for newborn (due march) and 16 month old. I took my DS (currently 12 months) to the shop to try it out and he already seemed too big for the doubles seat - ok when it was completely upright but didn't seem to fit when reclined - i just don't think he will be able to nap in it. I would be interested to know whether anyone else with a big baby has this problem?

flowerybeanbag · 25/11/2009 09:19

DS1 isn't small for his age and he's 2.6 as I said. Can you even recline the doubles seat when it's on top anyway? I thought you only could when it was underneath for the younger child. Mind you, DS1 doesn't nap in the pushchair anyway so it wouldn't be an issue for us when he's the one on top using it.

My ds is a big lad and Im hoping that its going to be ok when i have him in the doubles kit on top. To be honest though i didnt really have much choice. I had to have a P&t because i walk a lot, use public transport every day and a side by side would have been way too big for buses etc. I just keep thinking it will only be a few mths that he needs to sit in that doubles kit then i can swap with the baby.

i put ds in doubles kit when he was 3 months old as he was too big for cocoon and hated being in the dark. I looked at it from the point of view that for the short periods he was in it there was no difference between the double kit reclined and a baby bouncer. We did find our DD (2YRS) head was very close to the hood when on top and was always a worry as she was being potty trained that dear brother would get soaked underneath!

They should make a detachable hood for the doubles kit to solve this problem (i should patent it!). It is very sturdy so don't worry about it toppling over, virtually impossible.

thanks everyone, feel a bit better now!

I have been using in past couple of days for ds2 just to test it out before baby is born and i really like it and he looks comfy in the main seat. I agree about the hood and the head touching though, its a bit of a nuisance. Also brakes are really stiff arent they?
