bees are tiny, my friends 1yr old is crammed in, loolas are nice but seem a bit clunky compared to a bugaboo!

Hi Alice!

So far (researching online) I've only found five that actually give you the backward facing option - icandy, Bugaboo Bee, Loola, Quinny and Hauck.

Like the look of the icandy and the Bugaboo but they are beyond our budget, as is the Loola, the Quinny is so fugly I didn't bother finding out any more about it, and the Hauck sounds massive (and is fugly), which is no good as we have a tiny house and an even tinier car, plus I am on the tiny side myself and will be reliant on public transport when Dad is at work.

I'd be really interested to hear any recommendations, I'm a bit fed up that it seems like only rich people can have their babies facing them! Would the icandy/Bugaboo hold any value for reselling? I could maybe get the grandparents to help out if they really are worth the cost.

The reviews I've read suggest they are, but it's always hard to know the reviewer's motivation, I know Bugaboos are very fashionable for example so am worried folk are marking them up for that reason...

I was wondering if it might be better to get an actual pram second-hand and then buy a front facing pushchair when baby is big enough? I can't afford to make any mistakes with this as money is v tight but I REALLY want my baby facing me!

Jj, when you say "crammed in" does he just look a bit squashed or is it a proper effort to squish him in his Bee?

There's a new one called oyster which can face in either direction, but have no idea what it's like.

I have an old silver cross pram and I love it, but you will probably need a stroller as well as it's difficult to get the pram through pub shop doorways

Silky, I bought my Bugaboo Cameleon on ebay for £300.
It came with everything, was a bargain compared to the £700+ it would have been new!

I looked at the Bee when pregnant with Ds2 it is Teeny! I'm glad I didn't get it as Ds2 was huge and is still big now he's 1, no way he'd fit in it!!

SilkyBreeks · 15/11/2009 17:10

Oh it would be ace to find a proper bargain second hand! I am going to check ebay for such things and hope that providence smiles, though we don't live in an area where there are many bugaboos so I won't get my hopes up too much!

I've always been small and my family are all miniature, I keep forgetting that the baby will quite possibly take after 6ft+ dad and granddad so the Bee might not be a good idea!

I'll check out that oyster too, thanks.
Would love a Silver Cross, since I'm expecting a spring baby it could stay in the beer garden and enjoy the English weather! However I'm really clumsy so wouldn't ever be able to enter a shop with such a thing.

Oooh, I sound like a pram whore, but I also got a cameleon from ebay. I got the parts separately and assembled it myself as it worked out much cheaper- came in at £200, but without the carrycot as my dd was 5 months when I got it.

You should also try sniping with myibay as bugaboos are really popular on ebay, and you are more likely to get one if you bid in the last few seconds.

I don't drive, but one downside of the cameleon is that it doesn't fold very small and can be a bit cumbersome to get in and out of car. Mind you, it's a dream to push, so swings and roundabouts really...

i have a buzz and also a loola up,

the loola up is my car buggy for going into town,
the buzz i MUCH prefer, but it is too wide for a lot of the shops in our small town so thats why i also have the loola up,

MistletoeNoelPresents · 15/11/2009 17:34

The Loola Up with the bar handle is great, a snip to fold and folds compactly, great over cobbles and up / down big curbs.

Bee is small and wasn't as easy to push.

rockinghertosleep · 15/11/2009 17:41

Maybe have a look at Mutsy 4 Rider? They face either way, the carrycot is pretty spacious and although it may look a bit bulky, they're surprisingly light and easy to push. Plus the extendable handle is one of the best I've seen - DH is 6ft and it's plenty high enough for him to push, and my 5'1" friend loves to take a turn at pushing it too! Can get adaptors to clip in the Maxi-Cosi carseat if you like. And for the car boot - all the wheels pop on and off super easy if needed, and it folds up surprisingly small. DD is nearly 2 and still loves to ride in it! Thinking of getting her the Fun Seat for Christmas...

Bought mine new and with all the bits and bobs paid around £500, but you can find them on ebay - sometimes going for as low as £50!

sazm · 15/11/2009 18:24

i really fancied a mutsy 4 rider, but i seen one in my local shop the other day and it was HUGE even in comparison to my buzz, lovely buggy but big for using in the town/shops.

hettie · 15/11/2009 21:02

there are a few others... britax vigour bebe confort streety (good prices on ebay), obaby zezu, tuetonia fun system or lambda (try kiddicare online),

5inthebed · 15/11/2009 21:10

Icandy Peach, quite compact, smaller than the apple and lovely colours.

sazm · 15/11/2009 21:29

the bebeconfort streety is VERY heavy to lift up/down kerbs (and that was empty)also very cheap looking, that was the one i wanted when i was preg, until i seen it in RL,the loola up is V similar to it,just with a better frame,
the loola is a bit bigger folded, but def worth it,
they are quite cheap (£150ish on ebay too)

SilkyBreeks · 17/11/2009 23:51

I'm still obsessing about this and have managed to get a real life recommendation for the icandy and also something called a Micralight, but I haven't had chance to look for that online.

What I have also found is a pramette thing that does rear facing for under £250 beans - Obaby Zezu Pramette. It isn't as pretty as an icandy but it's not the ugliest thing I've seen and the reviews I've found so far have been favourable.

babydrip · 18/11/2009 09:40

Hi
Ive got a micralite (not the toro) lovely puschair, and fab for the beach and snow, is a hammock type seat and can either sit very upright or down a bit - saying the both of our babies sleep fine in it and dont look slumped.
Ive also recently brought the new britax vigour 3+ from kiddicare (look online) and its fab! reversable, lightweight seat is quiet long, with the back being able to recline seperatly (different to the older style seat where it is one unit) and the calf/leg part can also move, huge huge deep hood....LOVE IT! lol!
oh you can also get the 4 wheeled version but seat etc is all the same (so looks sim to the bug and the infinity) i only got the 3 wheeled version as i fancied a change
hth
love
Tracey
