This is a new pram out and it looks fab. As it's so new i've found only one parent review on the net!
have you got one or seen on demo'd in a shop? i'd love to hear what you think about it.

My SIL has got one and she loves it, she hasn't had any problems with it what so ever.
I have ordered one which should be here next week fingers crossed, I'm really excited I cant wait

The lady in the shop did say when I bought mine that it was really popular, delivery is 6 weeks!! you might be able to get it sooner online from a company that has them instock.

HTH

shalo2 · 10/12/2009 19:11

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I won't be able to get one until late February where I live which is cutting it fine as I'm due mid March. So that put paid to that idea!!
I have cancelled the Herbie and have plumped for an iCandy Apple after testing even more prams out today! Feel excited now and I don't need to order until after Christmas so have time to decide on the colour! Thanks for your response though - nice to hear positive things about prams as most reviews seem to be negative.

Hello,

can someone tell me if it folds with the car seat facing the parent please?

Also do you really need the carrycot for a newborn please?

Cheers

1petshortofazoo · 13/12/2009 09:36

I dont think it folds at all with the car seat on but it does fold with the pushchair seat facing both ways.

I read something about newborns shouldnt be in a car seat for more than 2 hours at a time as it is best for them to lay flat. I have ordered the carry cot, I think it is much nicer for the baby IMO.

brockleybelle · 17/12/2009 13:19

My friend (her dh commented above! - honoroak287) has got one for her new baby. I can't wait to see it and see him in it. I think once I've done that it will make my mind up for me. She's very pleased with it.

Finally we have all of the parts of the Oyster tarvel system! (Nightmare delivery from Kiddicare...)

Anyway, it's still too early for us to have tried it out with a real baby but we've put it all together in every combination and it looks great!

It doesn't fold with the car seat on (I guess the thinking is you will strap the baby into the car with the carseat and put the chassis in the boot.) However, it does fold with the buggy in both positions as 1pet says.

We have the carry cot that we will be using for the first months. This looks nice and roomy with a great hood for coverage. It does seem to have a bit of a wobble but I think this is a soothing 'rocking motion' rather than a fault.

The suspension on the front wheels is quite stiff so we are planning on greasing them to try to loosen them first.

I still haven't seen any of these on the streets yet. Will be interesting to see if they do become popular.

The only thing I have noticed which seems odd is all the removable covers are handwash only. Is this usual? I thought it would be much easier if you could stick them in the machine...

brockleybelle · 18/12/2009 08:09

That's odd Orange, about the handwash only. As if mums don't have 101 other things to do! I personally would stick it in the washing machine on 30degrees on a gentle cycle with a short spin.

Hi all

I have the Babystyle Oyster in Pearl, baby not here yet but hopefully not too long (due 30 Dec).

I was wondering if anyone knew how to work the rain cover for the carrycot, it has 2 velcro and 2 popper strips that look like they should fasten to something but I cannot figure out what to fasten them to.

Any help gratefully received!!!!

mrsmandm · 26/02/2010 19:42

Anyone got experience of the pearl colour? Does it get really mucky?

BertieBotts · 28/02/2010 11:53

I don't have an Oyster but I have got a reversible cream/brown Loola Up - I actually find that the brown side seems to get dirty quicker than the cream. However it washes very well and dries quickly so is not a problem.

Biffa92 · 06/03/2010 22:32

I have the babystyle oyster in black and green which I have been using for 7 weeks now!!

I haven't had any problems at all with the wheels, but I did see the posts about lubricating the front wheels so did do that before we used it for the first time.

I have the carrycot as well, as I do like to use the carrycot of the pram for baby to sleep in during the day in the house and I don't have a moses basket.

The covers are handwash only (I haven't dared put them in the washer, however they sponge out really well and dry very quickly on the radiator so not too much of a problem.

The pram doesn't have great suspension so if yyou do a lot of off roading it wouldn't be for you, however it seems fine round town, I ppersonally don't think that it seems very robust for my first 2 children I had a big mamas and papas, I wouldn't be confident that the oyster would last for more than one child, but I may be doing it a disservice it's a little too early to tell.

It folds really easily and the carry cot detaches, with the carrycot insitu it is a little difficult to access the shopping basket, although it does fit a lot into it (I am hoping this will be easier with the pushchair bit on). I have a maxi cosi car seat that fits on the chassis with adaptors no problems at all. The oyster is very easy to manoeuvre with one hand, and the handle is height adjustable, it also collapses very easily and is lightweight and easy to throw into the boot, which sold it to me as I found the icandy apple to be very heavy indeed when I tried it out.

All in all I think it is a good all round pram, haven't used the pushchair bit at all yet, but am already impressed with the integral uv net and look forward to using it on our summer hols.

Hey guys,

I just stumbled across this and had to post something!

I've had a Babystyle Oyster for about a year now, and I've used it everyday. When I first bought it it seemed absolutely perfect, I had so many comments, it pushed like a dream - I really couldn't fault it at all!

But now, after a year, it's started to show it's age! It doesn't fold down very easily, or click into place once it's up, the adjustable handlebar unlocks itself and moves up and down without pulling the lever, which is very annoying. It's happened a few times while crossing a road, which is very scary.

Also the suspension is completely knackered. The front wheels bend inwards when you go down a curb (which has always been a problem really).

Also the actual seat unit is just stuck onto the frame with glue, which has now peeled off and looks very tatty.

When I bought this puschair I was completely and utterly in love with it, and would have recommended it to anyone. I still would recommend it to someone who either has a car, or doesn't do a lot of walking with their pushchair.
However if you are the kind of mum who is out and about all the time, and who is looking for a long-lasting durable pushchair, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

After a good run, I've now just bought a Quinny Buzz. I'm hoping this lasts me longer (especially for the price!!).

All in all, I found the Oyster to be a good pushchair, but it didn't last nearly as long as I'd hoped. I bought it with the intent on using it for any future children we had too, but I guess I got what I paid for! £250 is definitely a reasonable price!

Hi brought a babystyle oyster for our first baby in December. We brought the pram, carrycot, foot muff, changeing bag and adapters for the car seat. We absolutly loved the design and was so exciyed bout useing it, But.....Unfortunatly the rain cover split along the seam the second time we put it on, babystyle replaced it straight away. The changeing bag split along the seem as well, babystyle replaced this straight away! And the we noticed the wear on the tyre tread reduced after just 5weeks of use and as we all know those first 5wks of your babys life you barely leave the house! and then when shopping in our local town whilst pushing the pram i decended of the kurb to cross the road and the two front wheels locked horizontaly makeing the pram tople to one side... it was so frightening, i ended up having to drag the pram to the side of the road...! my husband looked at the wheels and couldnt see what had happened... as a few more weeks passed we noticed the chassis was becoming loose at the joints and the front wheels wouldnt turn easily, the suspension was hard and not working at the front at all. By this point we had had enough of the problems and didnt consider it to be safe, we took it bk to the shop and asked for a full refund...they wouldnt give us one as they said it had to go bk to the manufacturer ...babystyle sent a report bk to the shop saying that the faults were 'wear and tear' (after just 8 weeks!)the reason that the wheels wouldnt turn was because they need to be lubricated every 4 weeks...

We sold the pram at a huge loss and brought a Quinny Buzz 3 and its amazing!

so i would suggest that if you want to use the pram for shopping malls ONLY and you dont mind the seems splitting then this could be the pram for you...

But i know that i would NOT recommend this pram to a friend! It gave us such a headace and Babystyle were not interested!!!

judemac74 · 09/11/2010 12:02

Hi all,

I see there is no relatively recent reviews of the Babystyle Oyster pram. We purchased one in June 2010 - it seemed like a very good 'limited edition' package with carrycot, stroller, chassis, changing bag and foot muff all for under £500. For what it's worth I thought I'd write a quick review here.

I was very happy initially with the Oyster - I liked how compact and easy to use it was (I have a Volkswagen Golf and it fits easily into the boot). My baby boy slept very easily in the carrycot for hours and so both mum and baby were happy however since moving onto the stroller attachment I'm not so impressed. The wheels on the chassis are beginning to squeak quite badly and we've only been using it for 20 weeks. The whole package came with very limited instructions and so trying to find out everything the pram can do was difficult. I really dislike the hood on the stroller, it seems very flimsy and lopsided.

If I had to do it all again I would probably go for an iCandy pram having looked at them in John Lewis. Bugaboos are fantastic but just too expensive.

I hope this helps

DenaS · 10/11/2010 23:47

That sounds like a bargain, where did you get it from?

judemac74 · 15/11/2010 10:49

I got mine in a pram shop in Glasgow but you can get various packages online at kiddicare.com and found this too - www.bambinodirect.co.uk/Baby_Style_Oyster_Complete._Silver_Chassis_Pack1_Inc__Oyster_Car_Seat_Ca_BUN-6109-13995/version.asp

they have far nicer colours now I see than when I purchased it in May 2010 :(

Babystyle · 14/02/2011 16:52

The Oyster has an independent cantilever suspension across all four wheels, and therefore takes all bumps and kerbs in its stride, please see our website for a full video presentation of this.

babysarah · 11/04/2011 10:37

I have found a fault with the fly net on the babystyle Oyster i used this net for the first time and after my daughter being in it for less than 30 min the dye from the black net was transfered onto my daughters clothes and blankets the black only transferes on to thing if it is rubbed but we all no babies love to kick there feet and move all over, the big hood and fly net was what made me decide to buy this pram as i always found pram hoods to be too small and always forget to take my fly net with me so this was ideal so now i cant use the fly net, this may be a small problem but paying £350 for a pram is alot of money to find a fault however small.
i hope babystyle look into this

Letz · 19/06/2011 19:11

Know this is an old thread but thought I'd post a review. Coming up to 1 year of owning the Oyster -I bought a black chassis/colour pack plus car seat and adapters. In the end decided against getting the carrycot because of cost but if I hadn't already bought a moses basket I might have got it. For us, using the carseat on the chassis was fine, she was never in there over 2 hours anyway.

Babystyle advises using the seat unit from 6 months but my baby went in there from 3 months in the lie flat position without any problems. Loved that the seat can be parent facing and we did that until she was about 6/7 months old, then turned it round as it folds up smaller front facing and baby wanted to look around.

Am a little surprised people are saying the suspension is bad? I've had absolutely no worries with it and I live in a city and do a LOT of walking, up and down curbs, over gravel, grass whatever it's not been an issue. I've owned a couple of umbrella strollers/maclaren for taking on the bus and after pushing them over a slightly rough surface the Oyster feels like a dream!

I LOVE the hood on it. Lived in a very sunny place for a few months and it was great because it folds down so far, plus with the integrated mosquito net.sunshade it proved invaluable for me.

I think the basket is a little bit small but that's probably the only negative I would give it. Before I bought it I tried the Qunniy buzz and the Icandys and personally I felt the oyster was way more compact/lighter and looked better.

For the price of the stroller on it's own, I would say it was a very good deal. Hope this helps.

Fudge3 · 21/06/2011 08:13

The best combination I have found for an those with active lifestyles who want to maintain independence with relative ease is to get an oyster and a baby bjorn = best of both worlds. I tried the 3 wheelers - bulky around shops (have been known to nudge the odd product display in supermarkets...) heavy to manoeuver into the car and actually, not so smooth on all terrains when you get a puncture (I had 3 in 6 weeks).
With the oyster - life is simple, sleek and fuss-free. I used mine from 3 months with the carrycot without any problems. And now that I'm not spending what little spare time I have conducting pram maintenance on a daily basis, I can actually take time to have a cup of tea!
And if anyone is still non-believing - I live on a farm in Devon which is flanked by beaches - just the kind of place you'd think a girl might need a 3-wheeler, - actually - no thanks.

Have a look at the M&P sola. I don't consider the Oyster seat to be suitable from newborn (not even sure if it says it is?) and settled on the Sola.

Bloody zombie threads..

Has anyone had any problems with the fold-down mechanism on their Oyster Babystyle? We just put ours together yesterday and folded down fine the first few trys but then started to stick a little. It seems to be working again now, but we're worried it's going to be unreliable. Our baby's not due for a few weeks and we're wondering whether we should see if we could get a replacement chassis...

mrsd1980 · 10/11/2011 14:17

I love my Oyster pushchair HOWEVER we have had so many problems with it, and are now about to get our FIFTH chassis in 7 months! I look after my pushchair very well and would not have expected so many problems.

Things I love about it - it's compact, light enough for me to easily get in and out of the car, looks good, is easy to push and steer, comfy for baby, and we've had no issues with suspension - perhaps this was an issue with earlier models but has been sorted out now. I regularly walk in parks and have had no issues at all.

Problems we have had:

1st pushchair - one of the wheel locking mechanisms didn't work and so the wheel couldn't lock into the straight position, they replaced it immediately.

2nd pushchair - developed a problem with the folding mechanism after about 3 months. It started sticking after a while and then got so bad we were nable to fold the chassis at all. Sent it to Mothercare for repair but ended up getting a brand new chassis from Oyster as a replacement as it couldn't be repaired.

3rd pushchair - this was a newer model chassis but arrived with a rattle inside the chassis so we sent it back for a replacement.

4th pushchair - after 2 months this developed the same problem with the sticking folding mechanism. I've also noticed that the brake is a bit sticky and doesn't unlock the right wheel on occasion. We have been offered either a replacement chassis, or a complete refund so that we can get an alternative pushchair.

I'm so disappointed with these continual problems as I love my Oyster and don't really want to go through the hassle of researching and choosing another pushchair!
