Double prams - Tandem or side by side - iCandy Peach 7 or Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double.

I will have a newborn and a 22 month old early next year.

I already have an iCandy peach 7. I’m wondering if I should get the kit to convert this to a double or if I should get the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double.

We live outside London and do dog walks and farm visits so both choices are multi terrain prams. We also do trains sometimes and the iCandy isn’t ideal for train journeys.

This might be a silly question but for anyone using tandem prams, does the child at the back not mind having the back of the front pram as their view?

Also does anyone use the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double as a double travel pram too? We already have the Joolz Aer+ as a single travel pram which is fab but I would never take the iCandy on holiday so I’m wondering if the Baby Jogger is also the better choice as it could also work as the holiday pram for two young kids?

We didn't get a tandem because one child gets a raw deal view and interaction wise, and also because most are a bugger to get up and down kerbs as the kids get heavier. We had an out about double which was great for off road walks and lies flat for a newborn. The newborn support isn't very supportive but you can put a generic bassinet in there instead or a sheepskin like we did.

I have twins and had the Silvercross Pioneer which is a similar set up to the iCandy and it got heavy to push once the twins were beyond the bassinet/carycot stage. The seats are also fiddly to deal with, having to remove and put them back on each use or to fit in the boot was very annoying.

I ended up purchasing a second hand baby jogger mini GT and it was fab, one hand fold, huge basket and very deep hoods and sun shades. Obviously not the most attractive pram but definitely extremely practical, easy to manoeuvre and great on various terrain.

The only other pram you might want to consider is the out and about nipper. Never had one myself but have heard lots of good things.

Side by side - that will fit through your front door - would be my preference.

It's good you've considered the terrain you'll be covering

Mine are teens now, but we had a bjcm as a double. And a McLaren umbrella fold single plus sling for abroad. The double wouldn't have traveled on a plane very well. Would have been fine in the car for a uk holiday.

Thank you. I was thinking the same about the view and interactions with a tandem and the iCandy can already be heavy on kerbs with one, let alone with two. I will check out the Out and About, thanks.

I had a MB duet and an icandy peach tandem

The icandy was great for navigating London but the tandem was ao much better (and easier to get onto the train)

Also my DC are v petite and close in age, im not sure how long it would last for the older child in most instances.

Thank you. Yes the Out and About gets mentioned a lot. I will check it out.

I agree about the dismantling. We barely take the iCandy in the car and never take it on holiday because of that. I do like it for strolling into town and dog walks. I also enjoy being able to switch it between world and parent facing.

Great to hear your feedback on the Baby Jogger. Did you ever travel with it? I watched some YouTube videos and the main con for me is the weight but apart from that it looks like it could work as a travel pram too and the one hand fold looks great!

That’s good to know that the Baby Jogger might not work well as a travel pram too. We only go on a couple of holidays a year so the day to day/weekend plans will be when most of the use would be.

Out & About Nipper was brilliant with my twins- the only pram-buggy we ever needed. It would go anywhere, fold up easily, allow babies to lie flat, and turned on a sixpence so really easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces. I think a tandem would be much harder to navigate around supermarkets for example. We used a sheepskin as a liner.
DTwins are 17 now but I still get a jolt of happiness whenever I see a Nipper in use!

Thank you and sorry just to clarify, was it the Mountain Buggy Duet or the iCandy Peach Tandem that was easier to get on to trains?
