Single pram for baby and toddler? Help, I'm struggling!!!

We're in a pickle. We have a 2 week old and a just turned 3yo.

3yo still needs the pram for long walks and the nursery run. I really don't want a double as we live in a tenement with no storage space.

I'm looking for a pram that can either be used from birth as is so I can just swap the kids in and out without faffing with bassinets etc. OR one where the bassinet (or Cybex cloud z) can be attached whilst the seat stays on.

Currently have a Cybex eezy s twist 2+, but the faff of taking the seat on and off and swapping with the adaptors and car seat just isn't sustainable for a twice daily nursery run.

Bonus points for compact (think eezy s twist/nuna triv size) and for extendable handle (we're both very tall!).

I don’t have a Cybex, but could you just get a buggy board that fits with your current pram?

There are 24m between my eldest two, and 22m between middle and youngest. We have a bugaboo bee (living in a tiny flat until recently so didn’t want anything bigger). The buggy board has worked really well for us!

CrazyCatMam · 15/07/2025 13:33

Bugaboo Donkey? Expensive, but they can be picked up second hand.

Paaseitjes · 15/07/2025 13:55

Have you seen the yoyo connect doubles? They're like a train so you just an add extra set of wheels with seat or bassinet which clip on and off really easily. There's also a buggy board that's very easy to get on and off so you have all the options. They fold down very small so you can store it under the sofa. We live in a tiny apartment too.

BarnacleBeasley · 15/07/2025 14:01

Okay so I have this except for the very tall part. We have a Mountain Buggy Swift, which is a compact multi-terrain buggy. It reclines flat so you can just put the newborn straight in, but there's also a cocoon that you can plonk straight onto the seat and clip on to the frame without taking anything off. We preferred this option because otherwise you'd have to be faffing around rethreading the straps when switching from baby to toddler. You can also fit a car seat without removing the seat fabric. The only thing that might not work for you is that the handle doesn't come up very high - but I think the most recent versions are a little taller so if you could get to see one in a shop you might find it's okay.

Bitzee · 15/07/2025 14:06

Uppababy Cruz. Newborn can use the seat with the insert which removes in seconds and comfortably fits underneath in the basket. Also can add a buggy board for the toddler.

Caspianberg · 15/07/2025 14:13

The cybex you have lies completely flat with main seat? And can be used from birth. So I would just use that main seat for both of them. You can twist it parent facing for newborn and lie completely flat. Then just sit it up and face either way for 3 year old

It looks like they sell a buggy board also if you want the option of elder standing sometimes and baby in pram not sling

This had been the plan, but we didn't think about the fact our Cybex handle doesn't extend and we're too tall to fit the bugyboard on the back 😭. Even bought one and we literally can't walk with it on!

We tried it with her in and it's really not suitable. No side protection at all and the straps don't go small enough 🙄. We're too tall to put the buggy board on the back as the handle doesn't extend... We didn't realize until we bought one and put it on 🤦🏼‍♀️

We have, and it would be perfect if it was taller! We borrowed one on holiday from my SIL and we both had horrible back pain after the trip from being hunched over . I'm 5'11 and my husband is 6'1 🙄

I wouldn’t recommend the mountain swift if you want a buggy board as the seat lie right back where you walk so no space

ideally you want parent facing to use buggy board . And old bugaboo bee? They parent face in main seat from newborn, buggy board good and handle extends. You will have to get second hand

I feel your pain! I'm only 5.7 and it's already a bit small. I do however have some cheap handle bar extenders from China via Amazon that work surprisingly well!

This is true about the Swift - you couldn't put a buggy board on it as you'd need the handle pointing straight up to make it tall enough to push. I was imagining that if the toddler was in the seat, you'd put the baby in a sling, and if the baby was in the seat, the toddler would walk.

I don't understand why Stokke don't sell extenders for the Yoyo. They sell every other accessory and I would gladly pay €150 for a luxury handle bar extender to match my over priced branded parasol. Maybe I'm just too tall for their chic Parisian image...

Hahaha. I frequently wonder how much money the massage industry is making off tall parents using a yoyo... London is full of hunched yoyoers

Is the yoyo that low? Dh is 6’2 and has used ours for 3+ years. I think you just hold it at different points ie he holds ontop, I pushed more at side as I’m short. If anything it’s pretty tall ( well it’s taller than our mountain buggy)

Ahhh I feel your pain! I’m 6ft tall and have had to perfect a weird off-to-one-side walk when the board is in action. Would never have bought our pram if it hadn’t been in lockdown so we were unable to try any out, and I refuse to get another one…

We got given a third hand yoyo which we take on holiday but I agree that it’s even worse for long limbs.

It's not so much that it's low, more that it's got very limited leg room so you can't stride. Watching all my giant Dutch friends, I think nearly all prams actually have this problem unless they're proper running buggies. It's actually been great unintentional practice for varying my stride length for running. I've got a great speed walking trot now, but mostly march alongside it with one hand.

Bitzee · 15/07/2025 15:46

I loved my YoYo have to admit it’s awful to push with the buggy board. I’d only go down that road if you’ve got a 3+ year age gap and the eldest is only like to ride it occasionally on long days out.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 15/07/2025 15:58

What about a buggypod? Can you even still get them?

I used to put my toddler in the pram/bassinet and the baby in the sling. But I had a SilverCross which was quite big, and a small toddler.

Caspianberg · 15/07/2025 16:15

It looks like cybex sells a newborn nest to add to seat to make it more suitable for small baby’s. It’s looks like a padded insert, so you could just take out and put underneath pram if elder child using pram seat

This! I think the handle height is actually average, but it must be more straight up or something because I'm so close the the pram when I use it and end up hunching in a bit to make leg room

Why don't you just use the Eezy S Twist and swap it to parent facing for the baby? I would put the straps at the baby's level and not bother to strap the 3yo in. Does it have a bumper bar? If it does I don't think a 3yo needs straps as they can hold onto the bar.

I think small prams are no good with buggy boards, they can't realistically handle the extra weight of the giant toddler hanging off the wrong part of the frame.

We had a Mutsy Evo when DS3 was born and DS2 (age 3 at the time) could fit fine in the seat or I used to let him climb on the front or back of the shopping basket and hang on to the frame or hood. It definitely made the buggy very wobbly over time, but it didn't matter because it was third hand at that point so once DS3 was big enough to switch to the other buggy we had I just took the Mutsy to the tip.
