Hi

just wondering does anybody know what pram or frame/chassis is compatible with a maxi-cosi pebble S car seat?

Ideally something that is suitable for a short person lol

we have been gifted the maxi cosi Pebble S so trying to find something to use it on as a pram as we will be travelling on trains/car so need both the car seat and something that it can be fixed onto to use as a pram (I know that they cant sleep in it for long) does anybody know maximum time in car seat? Do we just take them out of car seat if they go to sleep? Lol

first time mum to be hence any questions that sound silly!

I used my maxi cosi car seat with a bugaboo pram- I had the caméléon which I think is discontinued as I got it second hand and then the bugaboo bee for my second when we were in a city! Both great prams, I would recommend bugaboo, I bought them both 2nd hand and just took them to be professionally cleaned.
I think Maxi cosi is compatible with a lot of prams though!

Practically every pram is compatible with maxi cosi. They use universal adapters. You will use the pram much much more than the infant seat on the pram (which isnt good for baby, so should only be for very short periods anyway). The best thing to do is go and visit a big john lewis or an independent baby shop and have a push of lots of different prams. I had one in mind that I'd fully researched online but when I tried it out in person, I didn't actually like it that much and went with a totally different one that has now served me for two DC.

The max time in a car seat is 30mins when newborn and then 90mins when a bit bigger with a break after 45mins. There's a good car seat group on FB called Bumps 2 Boosters which has info on time limits.

Have a think about your lifestyle - do you live in a city or the country? Do you use a lot of public transport (so need something light and foldable) or off road walks so need something chunky? We live in London and don't have a car so I went for something with a massive basket as I do a lot of walking around the city. My buggy also converted to a double, so when taking the train to my parents, I could have baby in the buggy seat / bassinet and fasten the car seat to the second setting on the buggy to use in a taxi when we got to the station. But it also means it doesnt fold easily so we ended up buying a separate travel buggy for when we know we need something lightweight, eg if we are going for a day out by tube (lots of people end up doing this!)

If a pram you're looking at says it can take any Maxi Cosi seat then the Pebble S will work as well. As others said the vast majority of prams on the market are compatible with Maxi Cosi.

Car seats aren't totally flat, so while they are essential for use in a car, it's best to try and minimise use outside of a car, especially in the first ~4 weeks. It's up to you what approach you take to do this - I like the time limit approach which is to have a rough idea of when you put the baby in the car seat and imagine a timer counting down, up to 30 mins in the first four weeks, up to 2 hours after that. And try to either end the car seat session by that time or take baby out and give them a bit of a break and a cuddle. TBH, they often want a feed or change after a couple of hours anyway, so it's not a huge problem to do this.

Some of the advice says you should take them out of the seat and lie them flat as soon as you get home, but I never really did this unless we had been driving late and it was pretty much their bedtime, then I would try to transfer them to bed. If it was just a nap, and we were still within the time limit, I'd let them finish the nap as long as it didn't push them too far over. And keep the car seat in view and keep them strapped in so I could see they weren't falling into a dangerous position where their chin is pushed onto their chest (put your own chin on your chest, and see how this affects breathing).

I didn't use the car seat as a rocker or chair in the house unless we were about to go out and I wanted to get them settled in the seat so we could get everyone else ready (and in this case I started the "timer" in my head) or sometimes when we were on holiday or visiting someone for the day and they didn't have anywhere else to put the baby, but a blanket on the floor or even just putting them straight onto a clean floor is also fine, and good for them to have the option to roll around and stretch their arms and legs without being restrained by straps.

The inserts in the Maxi Cosi Pebble seats are usually good for baby positioning, so don't worry too much, do be a bit more cautious in the first few weeks, but you won't want to go out that much at that point anyway as you'll be sleeping very little and establishing feeding. Don't overthink it :)
