Newborn and 3 years old

Hi everyone,

We will have newborn when our daughter turns 3 couple weeks after, we are having hard time with prams, I drive so I don’t use pram, but my husband doesn’t drive (we live by station into town for his work) and he takes our daughter to nursery as I go to work early, which takes 20 mins to walk, in all weathers.

I would like Doona pram for myself with buggy board so I can take baby and daughter out and about from car, but my husband will need to take both of them to nursery and back (there is about four hills with flat path in between and after) and I worry about our daughter getting wet or cold on buggy board or jumps off when she’s bored and wants to walk which will be likely! My husband worry about pram and her walking near busy roads

Please help the mama out, I’m sick of searching for prams and double one way prams haha

thank you!

San202218 · 16/02/2025 17:05

We do have that, but we worry she’ll jumps off when she’s bored and wants to walk which will be likely! My husband worry about pram and her walking near busy roads :)

Could you get a double stroller that has a lie flat function for baby. Then you can have a rain cover. And it will fold up too.

reins are your friend in this scenario!

Are you sure you can attach a buggy board to a doona? They are much lower than a normal buggy and aren't great for day to day use as they do not lie flat - babies shouldn't be in them for a long time. What car seat do you have at the minute - do you have an infant carrier? I'd just buy a travel style / compact buggy with a lie flat function so it's suitable from birth and add the buggy board, plus get the car seat adapters for you to add the car seat when you're using it. It will be much better for baby. There are loads of good options. Waterproof all in one for eldest and get her to stand inside the handlebars. Took my 2y 9m year old about 3 trips before she was a pro.

Our eldest was 3.5 when our second DD was born and we didn't have anything for her, she had stopped using a pushchair a few months before and we didn't feel like we needed a buggy board.
With a just turned 3 year old I think a buggy board is your best option, or put the baby in a carrier and 3 year old in a stroller if it's too far for her to walk.
Waterproofs and wellies for when it rains!

How old will they be when they’re both going to nursery?

bathroomadviceneeded · 16/02/2025 21:12

I had my 3rd baby when my DD was 2, so similar age gap. I deeply regret not getting a double stroller.

Here are the mistakes I made:

  • DC1 refused the stroller from 18 months and insisted on walking. He was a very good walker. I assumed DD would be the same, and wouldn’t need the stroller by the time baby was born. Wrong. She hates walking and is still heavily reliant on the pram at nearly 3 years old.
  • We bought a buggy board for DD which we used a grand total of one time. My DD kept jumping off it, got sick of it immediately, then had a massive tantrum and refused to stand on it. It’s not like a pram where you can elbow them in and strap them down, they can refuse and run away! I now have an unused buggy board that I need to sell.
  • Baby in wrap, DD in pram is what I’ve done since he was born. I love baby wearing, but baby is 9 months and getting too big and squirmy for the wrap. I’m stuck now because I only have one pram.

Im not really sure to do now to be honest. Anyway, get a double stroller!

I wouldn’t get a Doona, and I’m not confident they’d be great for a buggy board…

My three year old hasn’t used his pram in a year, so we’re just going to use a carrier for my imminently-due baby… none of my friends with two or three year old toddlers found a buggy board worked, they find them boring after a minute or two and jump off, and it’s not like you can force them to stay on!

Most have gone for Bugaboo Donkeys, which seem pretty epic, one has a much cheaper double. They all got them on marketplace second-hand.

  • bugaboo donkey
  • out and about nipper
  • city jogger

Any one of those from gumtree or marketplace should be fine.

I would avoid a doona for all the reasons mentioned here.

I would pick up a cheap double pushchair on Facebook which you can then sell on - out n about are fantastic especially with hills etc and you can have a carrycot for baby initially

PurBal · 16/02/2025 21:34

I wouldn't personally be investing in a double buggy for a 3yo. We have a 23 month gap and used a carrier until the youngest was 5/6 months. I have the Ergobaby omni 360 (suitable up to about 4yo) so I sometimes carried the eldest if needed. Youngest is 21mo now, eldest is 3.5yo and we very rarely use the pushchair.

Get stokke yoyo. It’s compact and can use newborn nest or car seat for newborn. Works well with buggy board.

Can buy the twin extra attachment for 3 year old. It’s called yoyo connect. Husband can walk with both seats on the nursery, detach and fold twin extra seat back part and leave at nursery. Walk home with just newborn. the twin pet can also be folded and Hooked onto back if you can’t leave or for out and about and used when needed
