Double pushchair for first baby?

Hi everyone,

I’m expecting our first baby and I’m between the Cybex Priam 4 or the Bugaboo Donkey 5.

Visually I much prefer the Cybex, as well as it having lots of features and a lay flat option rather than bucket seat, however I keep wondering if I’ll regret this as we hope to have a small gap between this baby and baby 2 - around 18 months, and the Bugaboo obviously is best for this.

Any advice from those with experience of small age gaps or experience with either of these prams would be very welcomed!

Thank you 😊

I know a few people who had the Bugaboo Donkey and didn't like it in double mode as it is so wide. They went for an Out n About Nipper instead. Have you tested them both out in a shop?

I’d just buy a single now: whichever one you most prefer. I have a fairly small age gap
between my two but the youngest one loved being in a sling so I rarely used a double (and I agree with pp if/when you need one, the narrow side by sides were by far the best option). I got a second hand nipper for about £50 - was perfect.

I definitely wouldn’t get the Donkey for a singleton, it’s an absolute unit as a single. I have a Fox and it’s big enough trying to negotiate around shops, gates, public transport, changing rooms, public toilets, cafes (the list goes on). Perhaps I’m scarred with just coming out of the busy Xmas shopping/outings season, but I wouldn’t do it to myself with the extra width unless I absolutely had to. A single that converts to a tandem would be ok, but you’re paying a premium for that feature and they can often be heavier and harder to put up and down compared to a more basic pushchair.

The boring and sensible thing to do is get a pram that suits you now, and then get a secondhand double which you can use for the relatively short time you might need one. Baby no. 1 or 2 could hate the pram, you might have a larger gap, or you might love baby wearing. But I remember being pregnant with DD1 and I was anything but sensible- I bought silk sheets for her cot ffs so she wouldn’t lose her hair 😂

I have an 18 month age gap. People may say you don’t need a double buggy but in my opinion they are essential.

I went through 2 doubles and two singles. I started with an icandy peach. It cost loads and had loads of parts to put together as a double so when I had my second I got a double out n about nipper with a newborn carry cot which was great.

we have a single out n about as my two are 3 and 4 now.

if I had my time again I’d get a single out n about with newborn carry cot for first baby. Then double out n about. Once the double goes I’d use the single again. I’d get all good second hands

I definitely wouldn’t focus on a double buggy for baby one. You might hate the pram. Baby might hate the pram.

I have a Bugaboo Bee and I’ve found that unwieldy enough. My sister’s Fox is like driving a bus. I’ve used a sling far more than a pram. Mine have a smallish age gap (20m) and youngest didn’t have their first go in the pram until they were 10m - so pram and buggy board have been ideal.

Cybex gazelle is good and can be a double, if you like the look of the cybex

Thanks everyone for your responses! I’m looking into just sticking to the single pram and getting a cheap double buggy as and when it’s needed! Thank you all for your inputs you’ve really helped! 😊
