Storing pram long-term?!

Hi all,

I have a 9 month old daughter and we’ve been using our Oyster 3 pram for her which was bought brand new as she’s our first baby.

She’s long grown out of the carrycot and is now happily using the seat unit, and still using the Oyster car seat which came with it too.

in our old house, the carry cot was stored in an indoor cupboard out of the way once she’d outgrown it but realistically we need to think about long term storage as we’d preferably like to keep if for any future babies too.

I’m looking for advice on how/where to store prams between babies as I’m conscious there’s fabrics, a carrycot mattress etc. to preserve and I feel like just putting it in the loft/garage might leave it vulnerable to damp/mould developing over the years as we plan to wait at least a couple of years yet.
if anyone has any ideas or tips I’d be grateful!

Garage is fine. Ours has been in there for years and not been an issue. If space is a premium, sell it and then buy a second hand one if/when you need it. I wish we did the latter!!

Do you have any ottoman beds it would fit inside? Or under a bed wrapped in a duvet cover?

You're right, they can go mouldy in the garage or the loft. Would it fit under a bed perhaps? You could seal it in a vacuum storage bag.

Do the fabrics come off? Maybe you could store the fabrics inside and the frame in the loft / garage (whichever is warmer) well sealed. Dont worry about the mattress - i have a different pram but i bought a new one when DD2 came along in line with the safe sleeping guidelines on not sharing mattresses so Oyster probably do the same.

My children's pram is in the loft. I bought a new mattress for each baby for the pram as well as the cot so only stored as emergency until the next baby was due and a new mattress was purchased. The pram is in its original box. The youngest child I used it for is now 19. I've no idea if it is okay or not. Will check next time I'm up there as moving.

We stored one in a large vaccum pack bag in the garage and it was fine as the seal stayed tight

Large vacuum bag is best if not wrap in plastic and store off the floor in the garage or in the loft

Is it worth keeping the carry cot? I think I got the grand total of 12 weeks combined use out of the carry cot for my two kids. It was just far too small and I had two huge babies. I didn't even use it on the pram for my youngest, it was only ever used for him to sleep in during the day downstairs.

I think I kept mine in a bin bag on top of a wardrobe. Washed all the covers etc before it was used again. Then sold it on when youngest had outgrown it.

Give it a really good scrub and make sure it's fully dried before you store it wherever you store it. I had to throw away a mouldy pushchair. I think it had juice on it.
