2 under 2 - double pram

I’m expecting baby #2 and my first will be around 20 months when the 2nd is born
At that age do you think they will still need to use a pram? Or do you think they will manage with a buggy board and a single pram for new baby?

we use our current pram all the time so I imagine it would be the same when the new baby arrives so just trying to weigh up whether we will need a double or not.

I love the look and feel of the bugaboo donkey but it’s a lot of money to spend so weighing up if necessary. Although the good thing about that pram is it can convert to a single so would get the use long term…

Following with interest as I’m in the exact same position! Love the bugaboo donkey but not the cost..

I'm glad we didn't go for the bugaboo donkey as although it's gorgeous it just felt enormous and overwhelming... I figured if I can't easily fit through doors I'm not going to end up taking it out. Maybe one thing to consider - your older one might be ok on a buggy board in a good mood but if they're having a huge strop and you just need somewhere to strap them in, that won't do. We got the mountain buggy duet which has been great but that's for twins - not sure if it would work for two kids of different age including a newborn? Might be worth looking into

We had that age gap and definitely needed a double pushchair. We had a buggy board when eldest was older but when they are young you need to be able to strap them in, and it also allows them to nap (mine both napped until 4 because they had decent buggies which lay flat and were comfy). We had the MB duet too, as it was narrow and we needed something that would allow us to go anywhere. We also got a Phil and Ted's which had the footprint of a single - useful for places where we needed to be even more compact but not that fun for the youngest to be at the bottom.

Get a double buggy type system. There is no point forcing them to grow up too quickly or expecting perfect hand holding level of safety when walking out

Summertimer · 24/06/2024 00:30

Re strapping into buggy - honestly it’s never safe to have a child in a buggy without being strapped in

Blauehortensie · 24/06/2024 00:33

22 month age gap here and double buggy without a doubt, especially if you are going on a longer walk/going on a day out
We have the bugaboo donkey with a buggy board attached and the oldest does a mixture between walking/buggy board/buggy. Don't be intimidated by the size, it can fit through a standard doorway

We had a double buggy.Oldest was 22months .Youngest was born in July and it was perfect we just reclined the buggy for the baby.

minipie · 24/06/2024 00:49

20 month gap, you need a double definitely

I recommend the Out n About Nipper - they don’t look glamorous but they are SO easy to push, it’s amazing and makes life a lot easier. Also narrow enough to fit through doorways. Built strong so you can buy second hand.

I believe the Mountain Buggy Duet is similar

Also had a single buggy (Bee) with a buggy board but that wasn’t a real option until eldest was 2.5, and then only for short trips.

We had a wow xl cosatto and it was great. It goes in different set ups and has a good sized shopping basket. It has an in built buggy board so great when we switched from having pram and seat to just the seat. Have you thought of looking on Facebook or Ebay for 2nd hand?

Roselilly36 · 24/06/2024 06:33

having a good quality double buggy will definitely make life a little easier, my two (21mth gap) are now grown up but we had the Double Mountain Buggy, very stable for a newborn, when toddler gets out, would go through a single doorway, easy to steer, my late MIL used to take it on the buses. It was great.

SnapdragonToadflax · 24/06/2024 06:36

Yes, definitely need a double buggy! I only have one but he was napping in his buggy occasionally until 3.5 - if he was a bit unwell or after a busy day/swimming. I would not have wanted to be trying to negotiate a little one and a tricky 3 year old.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/06/2024 06:45

Do you like slings ? I used one for first 6 months so dd1 was 15 months was a bit older but then I did use a double pram for about another year or more

bergamotvetiverthyme · 24/06/2024 06:48

I had 25month ages gap between 1st and 2nd and a 22month age gap between 2nd a 3rd. A double buggy was definitely needed. I don't drive so walk everywhere. I've always had tandem doubles so can't comment on side by side
