Hi pls recommend a baby carrier for country walks I know this is in the place for push chairs but I didn’t know where else to post this thread I’ve gone through 3 pushchairs in 11 months as we do a lot of off road country walks which has destroyed pushchair/prams even the ones meant for all terrain I am sick of prams getting stuck in mud which is the main issue we’ve faced on walks I’ve looked online at a few puschairs but they don’t say if they’re good for muddy walks I know in summer the mud will dry up but I’m sick of ruining prams and cleaning mud and twigs and leaves off them and i just want to save the pram I have now for out and about and keep it nice and clean and get one of those baby Carrier rucksacks for our walks. are there any ones with impact protection? as I’m worried about slipping while carrying my baby and injuring her she’s 11m I just want a really safe one, my next concern is with summer coming in will my baby get too hot in one? Is it even recommended to use them in summer? So I’ll definitely be wanting one that’s safe to use in the summer my and my husband love hiking and exploring so must be comfy too for my baby

The cheapest one you can find on Facebook marketplace or charity shop. You'll be getting rid of it soon enough when she can walk or squirms/wails too much to be in it.
I had a Little life one, can use in summer. It's made for big people to carry though, ie dads. Not petite women! But they might all be like that.

I do the same OP

I had my daughter in an Ergobaby from 4m-20m (admittedly it was killing my back by then but she was on the 98th percentile for weight). Then I got a second hand Nipper and just made sure to hose it down after each muddy farm walk. Then by 2y7m we stopped using it and my DD who is now 3 walks for an hour with me every afternoon

I've never used a rug sack carrier so can't comment but we do have a Lennylamb preschool and she absolutely would stay in that on my back but she always falls asleep and we don't do naps anymore

Ergobaby for a regular carrier or osprey poco for a proper backpack. Both are excellent.

In terms of buggies though I can't fault my out and about nipper sport, it's a running buggy but unbeatable on off road routes. It has big fixed wheels. My other buggy is "all terrain" but doesn't come close.

I would recommend a soft structured buckle carrier, not a metal framed hiking carrier. The hiking carriers (little life, osprey etc) are sized for tall broad men, are heavy, and put baby very high up so your centre of gravity feels off.

I would contact your local sling library and try out a Tula standard (or free to grow), a connecta/integra/kahu (all pretty much identical), and maybe a Lenny lamb or manduca, depending what they have. Don't be put off by the baby size/size 1 labels, standard size carriers fit until at least 2/2.5 years old. And toddler carriers tend to be from 2+ so will still be too big.

In the above carriers, baby sits against your back like a piggyback, so it feels like a well fitting rucksack, maintains your centre of gravity, and is really comfortable. Plus lighter!

I have an osprey poco AG, got it off FB marketplace
it is honestly amazing, storage for stuff underneath, fits me (5’2) and my husband both very well. Adjustable, weight goes on the hips, my daughter loves it. We’ve used it from 11 months to 19 months and it gets used several times a week.

Borrow or hire one to try first. Both of mine hated back carriers, even though they were happily in front carriers from birth!

At that age I'd recommend the osprey Poco LT. Easily enough storage under it for a day's hike, and lighter than the other ospreys. Only thing is you'll need to be around 5'5 or over I'd say to get a comfy fit as the frame is more suited to longer backs.

Ergobaby for front carrying or we've just got a little life on vinted which is brilliant for walks, so comfy!
