Donkey Mono or Cybex Gazelle for Single Baby

Hi all,

I think I narrowed it down to the Donkey Mono or the Cybex Gazelle for DC1 and I am hoping people can help me decide. Reason for wanting a double is that we are hoping to have two DC and since I was diagnosed with some gyno issues last year, we will have to get a move on, so all things being well, we may well have a fairly small age gap. Obviously, there are no guarantees we even have a second child but let's hope for the best. The bottom-line is, I don't want to get another pram in two years time if I can avoid it.

Any opinions on these two choices? Seems I can only find reviews from people who bought them for a second child but unless we have a very lazy walker, we will only have two in a pram for around 1-1.5 years, so the mono-mode matters quite a bit for us. My gut feeling is that I would prefer the Gazelle in mono but the Donkey in duo mode.

Currently my list of pros and cons is:
Donkey (Mono):
+handles better, nicer accessories like the sun breeze canopy
+side basket handy to leave kid stuff in easy reach when sitting down (but theft risk if walking around town)
+side-by-side option if all works out well for DC2
+good resale value
-wider and we have fairly narrow pavements, including on the way to DH's work nursery
-looks ugly in mono-mode
-bulky
-more difficult to switch from mono to duo
-looks like a pram for two, grandparents will immediately guess we'll be trying for a second (and be annoying and insensitive about it)

Gazelle:
+looks nicer in mono mode than the donkey
+upper basket seems really handy, less of a theft risk
+easier to convert from mono to duo
+fits better with narrow pavements
+/- handles nicely if empty but I think the higher centre of gravity may make it move difficult to handle in duo mode with kids in?
-baby in carrycot would have to sit below older child for the first 5-6 months
-DC may kick each other if in duo mode and a little older (unless I swap one around to parent-facing)
-doesn't seem to hold value as well but I think that might just be cause it is new and not well known
-accessories not as nice

In terms of everything else, they are much of a muchness for our lifestyle (e.g. not much difference in folding them down, they are both a bit of a pain, but we won't have to do that often).

I have family abroad and am resigned to getting the Babyzen Yoyo for travelling, as we'll be flying a fair bit, so there will be an easily foldable option for the odd time I use public transport. Also will have baby carries/slings as we are out for walks and hikes quite a bit. Other than maternity leave, DH will be using the pram more than me, as we registered with his work nursery, but he has not had an opinion beyond "I don't hate either, get the cheaper one", which doesn't really help.

Because it is always suggested, I don't want to spend ages trying to buy either second-hand (the yoyo will likely be bought used, though), I just want to buy a new one and be done with the whole saga.

Any experiences? Or someone who got to use both? And yes, I have waaaayyyy overthought this ;)

I don’t think it’s ever worth getting a double in advance, in case.
Different doubles work better with different age gaps. Some great for twin, other better for 1 year gaps, others terrible for large 2 year olds.

Get a single you like. Probably the bugaboo fox if you like the bugaboo donkey. The donkey seats are so narrow in comparison that you are compromising on narrow seats for 1 child, but heavy pram. The Fox is nice and spacious and works well with a buggy board. If you happen to have a small gap, then get a bugaboo donkey secondhand to use for a 1 year gap. Then you will go back to single with board

Fyi we use our babyzen a lot. Even though we have a large three wheel off road type also

Instead of the yo-yo also look at the Joolz aer and bugaboo butterfly.

the previous poster suggested the fox which I would recommend (but you will need a travel one aswell) but can’t comment on the gazelle.
