Very tall toddler - outgrown pram

Hiya! My little boy is nearly 2 and half years old. He is about 94cm tall roughly and he is showing no signs of slowing down. Dad is 6’2 so I’m assuming this will be the the rate he will keep growing at. He’s about 15kg so not overly heavy for his age but definitely tall. We have had a Nuna triv since he was born but he just looks so squished sitting in it now , it supports well past his current weight but his long legs just look so uncomfortable in it even with the leg rest down. I wonder if anyone has any advice or recommendations, I want him to be able to nap in it comfortably laying down as he still sleeps for about an hour and a half during the day and it can’t be too heavy or difficult to manoeuvre because I have a chronic illness which causes me a lot of back , neck/ shoulder pain. I was thinking of going to a baby room in Smyths and getting him to try the different ones out, but worried I may miss some as they don’t always have lots on display. I’ve seen suggestions for the jogging prams, but I’ve tried pushing them before and they seem very awkward and heavy for me.

I’ve seen suggestions for bugaboo , oyster and lots of other prams but really don’t know what to do as this is my first child and would really appreciate some advice attaching a photo which I think shows how much he is filling up his current pram.

He looks ok to me too!

I think the big coat makes him look a bit squashed but that's just winter! I'd probably take the bar off the front, he's a bit big for that.

Work on walking so he's ready to ditch the pram before he really grows out of it.

If you really want a new one, I'd go for a light umbrella fold. Don't spend loads on a new buggy at this age (unless there is any reason he can't walk/will need a buggy for an extended period).

Consider having it parent facing too, much better for chatting to him if you can see each other.

Really? I keep getting people telling me he looks uncomfortable… maybe I’ve let their comments cloud my judgement. I just want him to be comfy

I agree he looks ok, he’ll let you know if he’s uncomfy. Also things can change quickly wrt naps and wanting to walk so I’d be reluctant to invest much at this point.

Having said that I think the Bugaboo Bee is fab for this, my DD who’s average size was in hers regularly till age 5 (mobility issues) and I could sit in it comfortably on occasion. Looks titchy but the back and seat extend out and there’s no footbar or side bits getting in the way. Lots available second hand, they are very well built IME so last through several owners.

I have a jogging buggy and it's big and heavy to lift in and out of the car etc but it's not at all hard to push or manoeuvre. You couldn't run with it if it was. What you want is something with a swivel wheel at the front (some are fixed for stability). Big air filled tyres make them easy to push over any terrain. I have an old BOB revolution which you can't get in the UK any more, but people like the out n about or mountain buggy ones and they tend to be quite easy to get second hand.

Though as PPs have said, he's probably okay in that one if he'll go in it without complaining (my 2.5 year old would soon make it clear if he was not comfy!)

We use mountain buggy with 3.5 year old. It’s a large jogger type. I think any large jogger type last ages.

Surprisingly the babyzen actually lasts ages even though it folds tiny. Ds is 101cm at 3.5. He still fits in it easily to nap when we are travelling. It also goes to 22kg so weight wise fine for most until about 5 years. I still plan to use it this summer when we travel so he has someone to sleep at 5am early flights etc. he will be 4 then

The Baby Jogger buggies are a good size for big toddlers. I had the City Mini but there are newer versions now. They are the brand always recommended for Disney holidays when you have exhausted 5 year olds needing to nap after a full day in the parks.
