Help with travel pushchair

Hi
I have been searching so many previous threads for help but don't think I've yet found the answer to my question!

I would like to buy a travel pushchair for air travel and also holidays at home and days out when we can't fit the pram in our tiny car! My baby is coming up 4 months and is nowhere near sitting so I need one that allows a baby to lie flat (I think this might also be useful for even when she can sit up but needs a sleep as my son could never sleep sitting up in the buggy). Most of the ones recommended for air travel seem to focus on the fact it can fold up and be taken as hand luggage but I'm not really worried about this as I know you can mostly take them up to plane door so long as it is a one piece buggy and folds flat.

So, I'm looking for a lightweight pushchair for occasional use that folds down into one and can be taken to plane door (not so big it has to be checked in) but it does not have to be small enough for hand luggage.

I don't have a huge budget and don't seem very good at finding bargain second hand things!

Thank you for any help!

We’ve had the YoYo for 6.5 years (well actually we’ve had 2 because one was stolen but that’s another story) and cannot fault it except for the buggy board which is shit but that doesn’t apply here… We had the newborn pack so baby can be fully flat but it still folds up to carry on size, but at 4 months they were both getting a bit long for it and wanted to see out, so that’s when we switched to the seat (same as everyone else we know, YoYos are super popular in our part of London). It doesn’t go fully flat but it goes most of the way there, enough for a 4MO to be comfy and enough for toddlers to sleep comfortably in it! So I would definitely recommend.

Oh and gate checking a stroller is generally airport dependent! Some places you’d be fine with a massive double Uppababy Vista because it folds as one. Then there are some airports, unless it’s changed recently Marseille in France is one, where they won’t let you take anything past security except strollers that can fit in the overhead locker eg the YoYo. So no one guarantee you this unless you specifically buy a carry on model.

We have the Cybex Eezy S+, they have now brought out the updated version. This isn’t cabin sized but is very compact and is more robust than the really tiny ones that you can bring on as carry on. We have waited a while for the pram at Charles de Gaulle and Dublin (both a bit shit for luggage generally tbh) but most places they come straight out either on the runway or with the bags, so I think you’re right not to prioritise that as a feature. A sling is handy to have as well for getting on and off the plane, frees up your hands.

You can get a version of the Cybex that spins which I was tempted by as I was obsessed with DD being parent facing. I didn’t bother in the end and am glad as the seat on the spinning version is smaller so you don’t get as long out of it. The S+ on the version I’ve linked to indicates larger wheels, which is 100% worth getting. Makes popping over kerbs, cobblestones or rough paths much, much easier.

Certainly with the older version we have you can also get car seat adapters, which is another really convenient feature if you have a Cybex/Maxi-Cosi infant seat.

Honestly it’s a real workhorse and the fold is really good as well.

Your baby is going to need lie flat for approx 8 weeks… honestly I’d either skip basinette attachment or buy 2nd hand if you really want one.

In terms of prams look at LeClerc and bugaboo butterfly. Both of these lie close to flat even as a pram and would be okay/fine for a 4/5m old.

these prams IMO are more comfortable for baby and better designed versions of the yoyo.

if you care about resale value just by a yoyo. They hold their value like crazy….

vinted and FB marketplace are THE places for 2nd hand.
you just search daily and grab it when it appears.
i am normally running 2-3 searches at any one time. I must have saved thousands by now.

also local What’s app selling and buying groups are good but more opportunitistic/hit&miss

Thanks for all the useful information everyone! I’ll definitely check these all out. Thanks for the tips on buying second hand too - my friends all seem to find great bargains and I never have! Will try your advice X
