Pram/buggy options for toddler and baby

I'm looking for opinions from those who have a pram or buggy they use for a toddler and baby. I will be having my second child in the autumn and my first will be around 18 months.

I'm a bit torn on which type of twin I should go for - side by side or tandem.

Since I don't drive I can see the advantages of a tandem, makes public transport much easier. And some, like Icandy or bugaboo models, can revert to single models once you don't need it for the older child.

A thing I have wondered is how easy is it to access the child underneath/on the lower level if they become upset or need something. Is it easy to take them out when you need to stop and feed/change them.

On the other hand, side by side models tend to be much cheaper and since I might not need it for a very extended time maybe that's a better bet. Some people have suggested they are more stable and easier to manoeuvre (though I don't intend to attempt any stairs, lifts would be my friend wherever possible).

I'm hoping to look for second hand options as well but just wondering what people's hands-on experiences have been like and any advice arising from that. Double systems don't tend to be very easy to see on display in shops to explore these types of questions.

Bumping this thread as I’d like recommendations too!

I really wanted a bugaboo donkey (I think it's called) but I live in Cornwall and I reckon it would have been too big for most doorways down here.
I got a Baby Jogger city select. It's pretty good, very heavy to manoeuvre with both seats on though and I don't like it as much as my Bugaboo Buffalo.
My DD was 17 months when DS was born and she actually never goes in a buggy at all anymore so it was completely wasted money. She prefers to walk everywhere.
Luckily we bought it second hand so it wasn't so bad.
Not sure where you live but there is a woman I follow on Instagram who lives in London and has the bugaboo double buggy, it pretty much fits everywhere that she goes.

I think side by side ones aren't as heavy to push about as the tandem ones so that is definitely something to think about.

We have a bugaboo donkey. It's massive but good. I use it mainly in single mode with buggy board as toddler is 3.5
Baby 9 months but I would rate it. I can fit through 99% of doors in double mode

I have a 2.5year old and a 6month old.

We have an egg tandem and we use it daily.

Baby is on the bottom, and it can be a bit annoying getting them in and out, but it's very much a first world problem.

The best tandem I've seen is the silver cross wave - when they go into the seats, the toddler can world face at the bottom and baby parent face at the top.

On the egg they both face the same way, but there is enough of a gap that the baby can see out and seems very happy.

I bought a side by side - britax pram and LOVED it. But sadly it wouldn't fit through my house door 😫 and I was worried that the baby would fall asleep and I'd have to wake them up.

Baby settles well in the pram, so I'm often bringing it into the house as a single for their afternoon nap when they are refusing the cot.

Also a sling will be your friend in the early days! Congratulations ❤️

The Mountain Buggy Duet is great. The narrowest on the market, I believe, and handles extremely well. It is very heavy though, so I leave the getting it in and out of the car to DH.

Once your oldest DC doesn't need it anymore, you can replace that seat with a shopping bag/basket that comes with it.

I had a Phil & Teds, which was really good. Baby lies flat in the bottom section to start with and then there are seats on top of each other once they need to be more upright. My older one loved climbing in and out of the bottom seat herself and there were no problems with accessing them. Fits through doors and on public transport.

Mountain buggy duet. Fits through doorways, so easy to push, has multiple different set up, carrycot, forward facing seat, etc and then can be used as a single with the joey basket. Great for non drivers who want to go the supermarket!!

We have a Phil and Teds, but it's not the only pushchair we have. I don't drive so I'm dependent on public transport, and I take it on certain journeys when I know we'll be on foot or bus, or certain train/tube journeys that I know have lifts. It's compact for a double - there are loads of narrow spaces it can go where side by side buggies wouldn't fit (you don't just have to think about doorways- shops have narrow aisles, pavements with clutter or busy crowds, lifts etc).
At weekends DH isn't at work and we go out as a family, and we've found 2 separate lightweight buggies easier and a nicer experience for the dc as the view is better. We can fold both easily if necessary, and don't restrict ourselves on the type of transport we take (buses take an age to get anywhere so its nice to be able to get on the tube).
Sometimes I have to take the tube on my own between 2 stations with stairs and escalators. Then I prefer to use a Yoyo and a sling, although DC2 is quite heavy for it now.

Although I haven't used it yet, I've heard amazing reviews and that's why we went for it.

Hi @justanothermanicmonday1 what are your thoughts now you’ve used it? And where did you find that bundle at that price? Cheapest I can find at the moment is this £949 https://www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/products/gazelle-s-essential-bundle-seashell-beige
