No 2 & 3 would get grubby very quickly in my house. That would upset me. Smile

RuthW · 25/04/2023 17:20

I like 1 the best.

2 and 3 too pale and will show every mark.

4 is ok

@jannier Thats my worry re looking grubby but I do love the colour which is a massive dilemma - the pram is probably best value but I hate the other colours (brown/dark grey/black). It is machine washable inside though…
I’m going to see them at the weekend but I needed to do some research so I wasn’t overwhelmed when I went for the first time and had specific ones in mind.

My first consideration is how am I using it.....in and out of a car....will it fit, is it light to lift in, is it quick to put up and down....and baby will be in a car seat so am I better to have a pushchair with a travel system as I do quick stops for one shop.
Walking....is it easy to push, rainproof as in won't get grubby...all light colours get disgusting. Will it take my shopping, bag easily.....
Am I replacing it for a 15 month old or do I want it to last for the whole pushchair journey.....big enough seat.....in reality everyone I know replaces them before baby turns 2.....so am I willing to pay that much for just over a year ...resale value is really low.
My son had a silver cross system cost over £800 hardly used it and sold for £150 looked like new. The yo-yo was used all the time so much easier and cheaper.

This is really good advice. IRL most people only seem to go the distance with one pram if they bought a lightweight stroller in the first place e.g. YoYo or Bee but they don’t suit everyone from newborn especially if you live rurally.

MopsySmithe · 25/04/2023 17:42

I think they all look expensive. I don't think it matters at all which one you choose. I would go for the cheapest option and do a lot of research into how long these last and what you would buy at the baby gets older.

For my two dc, I used a travel system - it was well used, easy to use, did the job etc.

My friend bought an expensive pram (like in your pictures) and only used it for a few months, as babies quickly want to be sitting up and looking around...! So, she then bought a cheapish stroller that has been used ever since.

CPParenttoDD1234 · 25/04/2023 17:49

Having had 10 buggy/travel systems over the course of having my children I would 100% recommend the cybex Priam. It’s the best most versatile pram and they do lots of colours. It’s easy to used. Not too big. Easy for public transport and dog walks in mud. It cleans well and fits bigger children in. It’s expensive but I have used mine daily for 3.5 years and it’s as good as new!

SoPrettyVacant · 25/04/2023 17:49

@jannier Thank you this is so helpful. It will mostly be used for walks as we live semi-rurally but will go out in the car a few times a week, especially at weekends when DH is off.

It is a travel system so does include a pushchair seat and car seat, hoping to use it all the way through to 4 years as they have advertised.

I’m now definitely on the fence about colour, makes sense not to go for a lighter one now. Thank you so much for your detailed response! What colours would you recommend, other than black?

@CPParenttoDD1234
That’s so interesting! The only thing that puts me off is I’ve heard it can break quite easily and Cybex’s customer service leaves much to be desired…
Can I ask if you’ve ever had any problems like this and if you have the Priam 3 or 4? Have you found any niggles?
And what colour did you go for?

CPParenttoDD1234 · 25/04/2023 17:57

I don’t know which one it is. But the customer service was amazing! I called them as I lost a shoulder pad and they send a new one that day! They also changed me SIL whole frame when it got damaged.

mine hasn’t had a single issue at all. It’s honestly the best one I have bought

Trixiedrum · 25/04/2023 18:00

They all look the same to me.

Buy whatever you like, I would choose one that folds small and has a big basket but I wouldn’t care how expensive it looked.

You wont be using it at 4 your little one will typically be walking most of the time by around 2 1/2 and only napping after that.
If you're doing rural walks big wheels are best. I'd probably have a walking pushchair and a cheaper lightweight for the car after the first few months. The carrycot won't be used much past 5 to 6 months max.
Dark reds, navy, greens, patterns.

SoPrettyVacant · 25/04/2023 18:10

@CPParenttoDD1234 That’s so reassuring to hear! I was so concerned about that, it was beginning to put me off but now it’s back in the running! What other prams did you consider?

OP posts:
SoPrettyVacant · 25/04/2023 18:12

@jannier Thats very true - thank you!
I do love dark greens so definitely will be looking into that - thank you!

OP posts:
FlounderingFruitcake · 25/04/2023 18:19

Don’t dwell on them advertising it for up to 4 years. No one routinely uses a pram for a 4YO, it’s only maybe when you’re out for dinner on holiday, visiting Disneyworld… that sort of thing. By 2.5 most kids are walking more often than they’re being pushed in a pram and by 3 most are riding scooters or balance bikes about! Hence the need to swap to something small and light. Get what suits you now. But yes dark colours- navy, dark green, burgundy, dark grey etc.

sleeplessinsouthhampton · 25/04/2023 18:20

2 looks most expensive, 1 cheapest with 3 and 4 in middle

cream/ grey avoid - u won't be arsed with washing pushchair covers all the time

id go with 4

it's also not gonna last u til age 4 - most toddlers are grown out of travel sysyem by 2 unless you buy a huge monster and they're quite small

my daughter is nearly 3.5 and can't remember last time we used any sort of pushchair at all

tillytoodles1 · 25/04/2023 18:22

Light green, gark green , cream then grey. Personally I love the cream one.

Twattergy · 25/04/2023 18:27

All look the same. Don't get a pale coloured one. I bought second hand from a friend and it was great coz it was already a bit bashed up, had been road tested and I could trash it even more. It folded small and was light. Would have been £££ new but I think we paid £50 so could spend the rest on baby essentials.

Goldbar · 25/04/2023 18:34

I would go for 4.

The small size of the storage baskets on the other prams (particularly 3) would irritate the hell out of me. The baskets on nos 1 and 2 look quite difficult to access too.

But then it is an absolute requirement for a pram for me that the storage basket can fit in a week's shopping, a good-sized rucksack and several coats or a picnic rug and basket. Others may be content with a basket that just fits in a nappy bag but it wouldn't work for me.

Colour-wise, I agree 4 or 1. The light cream of 2 looks particularly off-putting/impractical.

SkankingWombat · 25/04/2023 18:36

2 & 3 look the most expensive to me. All 4 look like they would struggle to cope the moment they left the pavement. Definitely get a dark colour. If you want more colour, jazz it up with a nice blanket (or foot muff once they're a bit older).

JenniferBarkley · 25/04/2023 18:59

Baskets on the first three are tiny, that would drive me mad. Basket looks better on the 4th but it looks like it might not have great build quality (don't know the brand so might be way off).

Get an Uppababy Vista or Cruz, second hand if the budget doesn't stretch to new, I suspect it will work much better for you than any of those.

greyhairnomore · 25/04/2023 19:01

4,1,2,3

SoPrettyVacant · 25/04/2023 19:08

@JenniferBarkley Now I did consider the Uppababy Vista but my friend said although it was amazing when her little boy was in the carry cot, once he was in the push chair seat it wasn’t comfy for him and she didn’t like it - also it’s quite heavy. When I looked the bucket shaped seat means the child can’t lay flat.
Why would you recommend the vista?

Kranke · 25/04/2023 19:08

I have the Priam. It’s great, so sturdy, good on a hilly walk and have even taken it on the beach and used the ‘beach function’! It’s not great for public transport or holidays as it’s quite bulky and heavy - good for shopping though. We have a yoyo also and use that for travel. If cost is an issue, I would look for a secondhand Priam and get a new yoyo (they hold their value well, Priam not so much). Didn’t think I would end up with two prams, but use them both often.

Eldest turned five this month, youngest will be three in the summer, still use it on every single walk. Both found it very comfy. By far our best baby buy.

SadCelticBunny · 25/04/2023 19:21

I have had lots if prams as I was a childminder for many years.
My choice is 1, 4, 2, 3.
I suppose it all depends if you are going to be walking a dog alongside the pram as those cream ones would be filthy.

I used to love a pram thread on MN, it was all Phil and Ted around here!!
