Recommendations on a Travel System for a confused first timer!

Hello there,
I'm a first time mum looking for a Travel System, baby boy due July 2022.

Me and my husband have been to both Mamas and Pappas and Baby Planet and are feeling overwhelmed with choice!

Here are needs:

  • I'd like something that copes well on all terrain, as we do walks around country parks and canal paths most wknds.
  • Light enough for me to pick up and lift into the boot, as I'm petite, I can't carry anything too heavy! (Aware I am going to have to man up!)
  • Easy to fold, not fussed about a one-handed fold but something that is straight-forward to collapse and pop up.
  • My husband is tall so I've had to bear this in mind up to now (Vennici Tinum was no good for long striders! he kept kicking it)

Not too concerned about the budget at this stage, but any recommendations welcome! :)

I have the mamas and papas occarro this time and I love it. It’s handled gravel paths/bumpy walks well but it’s not too awkward in shops. I find it light to push compared to the one I had last time.
I find the handle nice and high. I’ve got a buggy board on and I don’t kick it so it might be not be too bad for your husband

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - what you want doesn't actually exist.Sad

If you want an all terrain - you have to go big and bulky. The suspension and the large wheels that make them able to handle all terrain are also what make them heavy.
If you want a light and compact - you have to go for city stroller. They don't have the same wheel base nor suspension in order to make them fold neatly and stay light.

If you want to see what I mean take a look at the difference between a bugaboo bee (a city stroller) vs a bugaboo fox (an all terrain). Just look at the wheel size difference.

The only workable hybrid is a 3 wheelier - such as the baby jogger - now this would suit you perfectly but it's not really suitable for a newborn and they don't come parent facing. So they are better suited to older babies - imo.

You could look at the uppababy cruz - I've not tested one but could be an option.

With your dilemma though alot of people just have to have a second stroller.

I'd suggest investing your money in the stroller you're most going to use and getting a second hand one as your other.

E.g get a good quality city compact or mid-range travel system, something that works for you day to day getting in and out of a car and get a second hand all terrain like an Uppababy Vista. The uppababies are built to last. They are excellent quality strollers that can take a tonne of pounding, so they come up frequently second hand on Facebook market place etc and still have years of life left in them.

There's a place called 'buggy pitstop' that can completely revamp a second hand pushchair to near new condition. They will collect it via courier and send it back to you (unless you live near Harrow and you can drop it in).

Hope this helps! YouTube has a tonne of reviewers - magic beans, the stroller workshop, the baby lady and more, so also a good place to start your research xx

We've gone with the oyster 3 for being the lightest yet sturdiest with the easiest fold I could find. I needed something I could fit in a small car, and that both myself and my mum could easily manage (OH could lift/ fold anything!) we looked at millions of prams but all the popular bugaboo/ icandy types were just way too heavy for me.

Baby's due in 14 days so will find out then!

I got a bugaboo (lynx but it's similar to the fox) and it's incredible on all terrain. I can push with one hand most of the time as it's such a smooth push. I am small but don't find it too heavy - yes it's not as compact as some, but I can put it up/down quickly and carry all the parts easily. It's definitely not a one handed fold though. Really happy with the choice, I love it

I’m petite and not very strong and I wanted something light that I could easily lift. I went toe a cybex mios because it’s very light/compact but feels sturdier than a say a bugaboo bee. But it’s not all terrain - it’s absolutely fine when we go to the park and will easily cope with grass/gravel but something with much bigger wheels would obviously give a smoother ride in those circumstances. I found those to be a bit too big for me to easily lift/manoeuvre around though. I agree with pp that there is a compromise to be made and you have to go for very sturdy but large or lightweight/compact.

I had britax timer, the 3 wheeler is probably not all terrain as the front wheels are small but easy to fold, very light pushchair and even the car seat isn't too heavy.
The larger back wheels come off with a click of a button to fit into smaller boots.
You could check out their 4 wheelers they may be better on all terrains

I really like the look of this one a lot! Does it handle grass, gravel, dirt paths well? I mean, we don't go hiking through the bush, but similarly to op we walk along the canal and on the local golf course daily (two dogs 🤪). Does it "rattle"? I have an Ickle Bubba one and it's AWFUL on the most slightly uneven path. Just normal pavements that are slightly worn are a challenge for that one. The rattling sound is driving me INSANE, so I need to get rid quick. Thanks.
