Anyone use or tried a Hauck Runner? Or is Out n About that much better?

I've been looking at this Hauck 3 wheeler - it seems amazing value for money considering the price of other all terrains/off -roaders (we live rurally and need something for dog walking across moorland daily once he gets a bit heavy for a sling).

Many people on Mumsnet seem to recommend the Out n About Nipper 360, but it's double the price of the Hauck Runner - and they don't look very different other than possibly better suspension on the Out n About? plus a handy viewing window in the hood - but is that worth the extra £160? Confused

I have looked for second hand Out n About's but they seem to rarely come up near me. Can anyone convince me whether they are worth the extra money or not? Thanks for any help Flowers

Bump! Did you get a Hauck in the end? I'm in the same position and stuck between them.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/02/2022 20:40

Nope, still can't make up my mind, sorry! My boy isn't due for a few more weeks yet and I might just try sticking to slings at first assuming he tolerates them - as prams are so pricy and I don't want to risk buying the wrong one! Eventually he'll be too heavy for that though and I'll have to make a decision... Nobody on here seems to have used the Hauck Runner - it seems the Out n About and the even pricier Mountain Buggy are pretty popular though (so maybe there's a reason for that?)

It's so tricky! With my first I just used the travel system, slings, a cheap stroller and a rucksack carriernand we were fine. With my second now it seems tricker as we walk alot on adventures with the toddler! We were gifted a very old mountain buggy and loved it but the rear wheels have just broken and can't be fixed or replaced. I yhink we have been spoilt by that now though as want another all terrain. I've seen lots of good reviews of the hauck on FB groups but here it seems to be very much outnabout nipper! I want something that can go in a smaller car boot and it looks like Hauck folds smaller so I'm probably going to plump for that. I'll let you know if I do!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/02/2022 22:13

If you do go for it, that would be very kind of you to share the info, thanks Flowers. Understandably it's hard to find people who've tried different all terrains - at least you'll be able to compare how the Hauck runs compared to your previous Mountain Buggy! I've found a company about 45 mins from me that stocks all 3 brands on their website (although I don't think I can justify the even more £ for the Mountain Buggy), but I doubt they'll have all 3 off -roaders on display in their shop, although I'm going to ring and ask. It's just so hard to know isn't it, without trying them in person, whether you are just paying more for the "brand name" with the others Confused?

Hello!

Did you end up buying one? Just to say that I have both the Hauck runner and an Out n About nipper, the nipper folds much smaller!!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/06/2022 23:45

Hi @rhiannon49 Thanks for the info! Is the fold a lot smaller? Just asking out of curiosity - I did end up buying the Runner and am very impressed with it considering the price. With the difference I've saved, I'm planning on using some of it to get a smaller, light weight umbrella stroller - just for easy transport/to take on holidays once DS is bigger and can sit upright Smile (as I would have wanted that for convenience anyway, even with the Nipper.)

It's not perfect - I'm guessing the more expensive brands probably have better suspension (although DS still seems to sleep through any bumps!), the viewing window is zipped open not clear plastic and the brakes have to be pressed down more firmly/carefully than others I tried, but I can't believe how well it works for £150 - it's used daily on rough, hilly moorland and no issues yet.

No the fold isn't hugely smaller at all, the bigger back wheels on the hauck just make it seem like it! I honestly would buy another hauck in a heartbeat. 😀
I only bought the out n about as I needed 2 off road type prams and one came up on marketplace for £80 so it was a no brainer. Otherwise I would've just bought another hauck!
You're right the saving on price, it is definitely worth it and I wouldn't say that the out n about is worth forking out for when you can get the hauck at a fraction of the price.
Mine is two years old and has been used every single day on country / farm roads (we live in Orkney) and it's still going strong! 🙂

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/07/2022 22:59

@rhiannon49 -Lucky you living in beautiful Orkney! And really good to know your Hauck is still going strong after 2 years. Ah, I understand about the Out N About then - that is a bargain, don't blame you Grin. I suspect all these off roaders would be equally awkward to transport anyway - the slightly wider frames and massive wheels that are needed for them to work well are always going to make them a bit of a pain in the bum for travel imo.

Yes we are very lucky indeed 🤩 so many country roads to test it out on 🤣 yeah I would never have bought the out n about otherwise. Glad I could be of help though 🙂

Hi, I am also looking at the Hauck and was also looking at a mountain buggy after trying one in a shop. I was concerned about how long the hauck would last as it is so much cheaper but reassured by your comments about it still going strong after 2 years! My only concerns are around getting a puncture - has this happened to you? Does it happen often? Can you fill the tyres with tyre sealant as you do with bike tyres to prevent punctures?

rhiannon49 · 10/09/2022 13:10

Hello I've never had a puncture no! And think I've maybe only topped up the air twice! My hauck has had a serious hammering by the way, I am a keen walker, I'm talking like 10 miles a day with an excitable black lab! 🤣 have to do something to tire him out!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/09/2022 23:08

I've only had my Hauck about 6 months now but we use it daily too with the dogs (for several miles across very rough, hilly moorland). In fact it's the only guaranteed way to get DS to have his daily nap - wish I could use it to send him off at night too! No punctures yet and haven't had to top up the air yet either.

Despite it's minor flaws (especially the faffy brake), I still think it's brilliant for the price - particularly since unlike the other brands it's available in a bright silver colourway which I found really helpful in the heatwave (also helps you be seen/safe at dusk as a bonus!).

Thank you both for your replies , really helpful. I’m definitely going to get a Hauck. I have noticed there’s a Hauck Runner 1, 2 and 3 - which one did you go for. I can’t see a great deal of difference between the models.

Aurora791 · 11/09/2022 11:01

We also have a hauck runner- excellent value and has done many many miles off-road over the last 2 years, also many miles on the pavement with me running. Absolutely great buy. We’ve had a puncture on our back tyre but nothing a quick in terms tube change couldn’t fix. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 11/09/2022 22:52

I think I have the Runner 2 as I wanted the Silver, but I'm not sure there's any difference other than colours between the 2 and 3. But I'm sure I read somewhere the Runner 1 doesn't fully recline to be able to use a newborn insert/carrycot (so that one wouldn't be suitable for babies under 6 months).

Hello all, I too am trying to make this decision and it sounds like the hauck is the better value / choice, could I just confirm that you can run with the hauck as I've read conflicting info. Many thanks in advance x

rhiannon49 · 22/09/2022 19:25

Yes you can run as long as you lock the front wheel in place or it will shudder upon running 🙈😴

Nat351 · 24/02/2023 19:12

Hi can anyone tell me if you can fit two kids in the seat (if needs must), or whether an older child can stand on the back bar (can't work out if the whole thing is the break or just part of it?) Or if it goes well with a buggy board. Thanks

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/02/2023 22:07

Whole rear bar is the brake so a child couldn't stand on that. There is an area underneath the brake to attach a buggy board but I haven't tried one or a with a second child, sorry (my DS is an only). Max weight is 22kg, so in an emergency possibly you could sit 2 children in the seat with one on lap - but it would be a squeeze and not very safe for a younger baby (as you'd likely have to take off the waist level buggy bar to fit and I doubt the straps would be long enough to fit over both kids).
