Are double buggies worth it? What's my best option please!?

Hoping someone can help Smile not sure what to do
I have a 2.7 year old & 12 week old. I have a mamas & papas sola 2 pram & silver cross reflex pushchair both of which are great. Currently putting the 12 week old in her car seat attached to the pram frame, my 2.7 year old walks along side us (me n husband)
I'm wondering whether a double buggy is worth it at this stage? A few ive seen have maximum weight of 22kg, eldest is 14kg already. How long would I get use out of it? I'm worried about going out on my own with them both (I haven't yet) my eldest gets tired after a while and asks to be carried, or I panic he will run off SadBaby carriers & slings don't work for me, looked at buggy boards but thought they're maybe a gimmick?
My husband thinks the double buggy won't last long, what is my best option? What do others do in the same situation with this age gap? Thank you for any advice!

Hi OP, I have a 2.5 year old and a five month old and kicked myself for not getting a double. I don't drive at the moment though, so we do a lot of walking. My toddler loves walking but like yours tired out eventually. At the moment I've got baby in carrier and still bring stroller for toddler. We've also just hit the tantrum phase hard and having the stroller as a space for him to sit, snack and chill out when out and about has helped. I think if you can afford it, go for it. It makes life a lot easier at a time of when you're probably pretty tired.

Double is a good thing when you have kids close in age. At some point, the bigger one will be too big or too independent to go in a stroller. So maybe you should focus on a good stroller for a smaller one and maybe a tricycle for the older one? We have a Spinstep model from Kinderkraft and our daughter loves it, she feels so fee and independent when she bikes by herself, it can also be a stroller that you can ride by yourself. Kids get big too soon and spending too much money on a double that you will use only for max 2 years is not necessary.

Buggy boards are great, absolutely not a gimmick! You can even get some with little seats. My 4YO still uses ours on long days out. In my opinion reasons to get a double would be if the eldest still naps or if you can’t trust them to walk or stand on the board sensibly.

Go for a buggy board OP, they’re brilliant. DD loves hers and it’s easier to manoeuvre than a double buggy. DD1 was 2yrs 8 months when DD2 was born, by the time DD2 was about 6 months DD1 was already getting to the point of not using the buggy board much, she preferred her scooter. I’d go with buggy board and if you have a toddler likely to run off then reins as well for when they’re walking. Or a baby carrier and and a stroller for the older one.

Buggy boards are pretty cheap, more so if second hand and can be sold on so I'd at least try one as it's a much smaller investment.

I used to have the bugaboo donkey duo as it was the only one I could easily push on end off a bus plus fitted into most shop doors. But now my oldest is bigger Iv got the city jogger mini. It's only 1cm wider then the bugaboo. Their great

Buggy board. You can get them with little seats on, could be worth a try. Plus if your oldest has a scooter or balance bike that they enjoy using, take that (with a strap so you can hook it onto the pushchair if and when they don't want to scoot/cycle any more).

My age gap is slightly bigger so I got away without a buggy board but I would definitely have got one in your position.

37 months between my dc.
I had a P&T double from eBay. I didn’t need it for long, but for those first 6 months of dc2’s life it was invaluable.

Buy the city jogger double second hand. They are so lightweight & fit through an ordinary sized door. You can also get a carrycot to go on, again buy second hand

Buggy board didn’t work for us. DC1 was already very tall and my buggy had a hoop single handle rather than two individual handles.
