Pushchair for an older child?

Hello,

I'm looking for advice for a pushchair for my 5yr old autistic dd. She is currently in a 2013 Baby Jogger City Mini GT which we have loved, but she's now beyond its 15kg weight limit and is getting too tall to sit comfortably in it. (She's approx 17kg and around 107cm tall).

I don't drive so I'm not worried about how a pushchair folds or what size it folds down, although I do love the easy way the BabyJogger folds. We use public transport a lot so I don't want anything too big or awkward, that can't get onto buses or trains, or into shops easily.

We go for lots of days out to country parks, woods etc, so need something that can handle uneven ground.

We've loved the CityMiniGT because it has amazing wheels & suspension, but also because it has a huge basket which is great for long days out without a car. Dd also loves the huge hood and likes to use the buggy as a sort of hideaway.

I'm not sure what is available in the special needs market, other than the McLaren which I don't like (it looks awkward and uncomfortable and doesn't have the storage space we need). I've heard of Special Tomato but no idea what it's like. Dd still occasionally naps in the afternoon, especially if we're out all day, so need a buggy that can recline.

Are there any "regular" buggies that would suit our needs, suitable for a heavier, longer child? It's been a while since I've had to buy a pushchair so no idea what's out there currently.

Thanks!

We were in a similar position and decided to go for a mountain buggy (urban jungle). DC is nine although petite for age and just about fits in. I love it! The weight limit is 25kg which we have exceeded but with pushchairs it’s different to car seats WRT weight limits as the car seat is obviously to protect DC in a crash so I wouldn’t worry about pushchair weight limits. Goes over all terrains, good sized basket, reclines and DC often sleeps in it too. There’s two types, the pre-2015 and post 2015 and they have different folds. The post 2015 is a simple push button and twist to fold (one handed) but the pre-2015 is also very easy to fold too, just two catches Smile

Thanks, I shall have a look at that.

The buggy seems to be coping with dd's weight at the moment, but I'm a bit apprehensive because it's taken a right battering over 8yrs of daily use and 2 children. I'm worried that some parts may be reaching fatigue!

I've also been looking at the BabyJogger City Elite - does anyone have experience of this buggy? In particular on buses or trains?
