BUSES AND DOUBLE BUGGYS- HELP!!

spidermomma · 21/04/2021 21:26

I have a city jogger mini double and need to get a bus tomorrow (completely dreading it) and I just want to know if anyone has one of these and used a bus before ? I used to have a bugabooo and that fitted perfectly on a bus but this is a new pram so I really don't know??
Thank you all

Depends on the style and size of bus. They are all different. Where do you live and what bus company is it? I am a bit of a bus nerd so might be able to find out.

I'm in Merseyside so theirs a few different once's but seem to be. Arriva

Ok a quick Google of photos show that both single decker and double decker buses have one door at the front only. This means the wheelchair space will be at the front and there should be enough space to be able to get the pushchair on and turn it to move into the space (because it has to be big enough for a wheelchair to do this).
That is the important thing to remember - it is wheelchair priority space. If someone in a wheelchair needs the space you may have to remove your children from the pushchair and fold the pushchair. (Or if another pushchair user has simply got there first). You should plan for this possibility. How old are the children? If one is a baby having a sling to pop baby in, have older child sat on a seat and pushchair folded. Don't load up the pushchair with too much stuff which means it will be difficult to fold without having to take loads of stuff out of it first. Take a little as you can get away with. Hope that's some useful advice.

Having just googled though what pushchair you have if you have a baby plus toddler it might be easier to take baby in a sling and if you can borrow a single for the older one - obviously that depends on the ages of the kids.

@Ilovemaisie my children are disabled but with 2 they don't do double wheelchairs so this is my next best option! So I won't have to fold as it's impossible for me to! But thank you il let you know how I get on xx

Babyjogger city mini double is a couple of cm wider than a bugaboo donkey so not sure if it’ll fit
It’s a better pushchair though by far we love ours

You can get stickers I think saying the pushchair is a wheelchair it’s helpful as if you get any hassle you can just point to it and not feel like you have to justify yourself with your child’s medical history x

@kiwiPlumapple oh can you!! Where would I get them from? I could do with that as people give me some looks as if to say why are your kids in that pram?? Because they do look okay but my oldest can't walk so without a double pram I'd be house bound. We tried a wheelchair an buggy board but wasn't for us. It was so heavy and awkward! This is brilliant and I love it to!! So easy to push it's like my own bus when my little one jumps in to haha ! It's 2cm wider so not much. Guna try it lol xx

Ok ignore most of what I said as you can't take your children out the pushchair. If you can get some sort of card to show the driver that your pushchair is being used as a wheelchair then you will have priority for the space (unless of course another wheelchair user is there already). For tomorrow do you have some sort of medical letters to show the driver if needs be?
As for anyone else questioning you - ignore them. Not their business.

Etsy do some, but I think lots of other places too I used to take my dc blue badges out with me till I got one as I was so fed up with people asking on the bus especially
My kids fit in the babyjogger seats till they were 9 !!!! They are such good ‘standard’ buggies for children with disabilities

I had one similar to this kind of thing

Going to order one now thank you for that and their great these buggy's aren't they, last week I had 2 in and then my daughter Sat on one of the boys knees haha it's a mini mobile bus lol xx

I was wondering how your journey went.
Definitely get one of those sign things that kiwi suggested. Hope any future bus journeys go well.
