Stroller advice for a lockdown mum

Hi all,
I am looking for a stroller for a 10 mo through to toddler age that is able to recline flat, has good traction for walks on grass and gravel and a good basket space. Currently borrowing one but it is difficult to push on walks in greenery & has very little space for shopping. I'm finding it so difficult to choose since I can't test it in store. Any advice would be great. Thank you x

I had a joie nitro, it was fab, a real workhorse for us with 2 kids and dog in tow.

I loved our out n about nipper. It was the version 1 and the luggage space wasn’t fabulous but I believe the newer ones are better and it’s so sturdy it withstood a full load in a rucksack on the handles. Never found a terrain it didn’t sail over.

Babyjogger city mini GT.
Loved mine.

Out and about or baby jogger city mini gt would be good to consider.

NannyR · 28/02/2021 19:06

The baby jogger city mini is a great pram, good recline, nice big hood for shade or weather protection, nice to push and very easy to fold.

Baby jogger. I've just bought the gt2 and love it

Agree the nipper is brilliant, we had one for dog walks. It looks so comfortable for the child and really easy to push. If it’s an umbrella stroller you’re looking for, we’ve had a ridiculous number over 3 kids for some reason - the only one I liked was a maclaren techno xt. I got it second hand and it was the best pushchair we ever had , so easy to use and just felt good quality well designed. I left it in the garage and it went mouldy which was very sad!

Baby jogger city mini gt.

I had the Baby Jogger City Mini for both of mine and loved it.

Huge seat so it was able to use until they were about 4, decent basket, doddle to fold and decent sized wheels made it easier on rough terrain than the average pushchair.

If it were buying now I'd be looking at the GT from birth.

Indecisivelurcher · 28/02/2021 19:12

Oh I had a nipper too, but I wouldn't describe that as a stroller, to me a stroller is lighter weight. The nipper was really good for rough terrain and mud when the kids were younger. But couldn't get a buggy board on the back when dc2 came along. And didn't fold up small. Have a think about whether you want them facing you though, they forward face only in the nipper and the joie nitro I mentioned.

I bought one of the silver cross strollers when it was on sale in Argos. There seems to be a range of them I think some are heavier and some have extra features such as a bar across the front. It has an extendable hood which I love for sunny days. Would def recommend it if it's a lightweight stroller you're after

voxnihili · 07/03/2021 21:59

I’ve had a silver cross reflex and zest. I like the zest as it’s so light and seems easier to steer than the reflex (one-handed with a basket of shopping - probably due to the weight difference). DD 2.5 prefers the reflex though as the seat sits bolt upright whereas the zest’s most upright position is still slightly reclined which she hates.

Thank you so much for all your advice. It's so useful.

We had probably eight different pushchairs for our kids over the years. Out and About Nipper is the only one I remember fondly. So easy to push and steer with one hand so you can be eating cake with the other hand.

If not needing something reversible, I would definitely go for a Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 - the space and driveability is incredible. If not minding a larger model, go for the Elite(2).

If you can get a hold of a TFK pushchair, would work great too (even the small Dot 2). A Gesslein S4 Air or an Uppababy Minu, if really needing something small, would also work.

Good to know - if you'd need a tailor-made stroller advice, try to ask about particular strollers - or just browse for reviews. I am particularly fond of some tips we put together in the stroller guides.

Have you checked out "The Stroller Workshop" on YouTube? I really liked their unbiased reviews based on their repairs of strollers / the mechanics/quality of strollers. Might be something to check out given you want wheels that can handle more than paved surfaces.
