Ftm shall I get a pushchair that can be converted to a double?

I'm a ftm at 35 so we plan on having our second child quite soon after this one. Is it worth buying a pushchair that can be converted to a double from the offset then? I've seen the nuna demi grow online but it is obviously heavier than a simpler single pushchair. Help! So indecisive!

It would be sensible to do so.
I bought a bugaboo Cam then got a (second hand) icandy Peach 18 months later

If I had my time again I would do it again as I bloody loved the Cam and though there was no point making myself get a pushchair I didn't love for a baby that might never happen but I do acknowledge that it wasn't really a budget friendly thing to do Blush

Are there another convertible doubles you like? My peach isn't really too heavy as a single

We have the cosatto wow xl which can be converted into a double and it’s amazing! Mine are 15 months apart it was worth the money

Thanks for the reply. We saw the nuna mixx in a shop and loved it, but we've since seen they do a nuna demi grow that can be converted to a double, though we can't see it in person. It's only £55 more expensive so I'm only hesitating because I loved the nuna mixx so much, there's not much difference between them though I don't think.

I'm not familiar with nuna but I guess you will have to decide if you will be more annoyed at
(1) pushing around the heavier puschair needlessly if you end up with a bigger gap between DC so don't need the double
Or
(2) buying a puschair and only using it for a shirt will before buying another one.

stormelf · 18/02/2021 18:54

I'm not familiar with that pushchair but I think if you are planning on a second child it is a good idea. I got the egg when pregnant with my first due to it being a nice small pram but also so I could convert it to a double. Only needed to buy adapters when expecting baby no.2

TerribleCustomerCervix · 18/02/2021 19:03

I had a small gap so ended up with a single pram, then had to get another when dc2 was born.

I ended up getting a convertible Phil and Teds Dot after hours comparing every single double pram on the market.

Double prams are just always a bit crap, even the convertible ones.

You ALWAYS have to compromise on them, whether it’s price, weight, bulkiness, manoeuvrability etc.

Plus when DC1 is confidently walking, you’re still pushing a pram you’re not thrilled with, even though it’s only got one passenger.

I’d get a nice single pram, and if you need it you can buy a very good side by side like an Out N About Nipper or Baby Jogger for the period when you need to push two around, then revert back to the single.

Niavic · 18/02/2021 19:21

Oh it's so difficult! It's only 3 lbs heavier and a little taller which doesn't seem like a massive difference. I wish I could just see it in person but that's not looking likely 🤷‍♀️

@Vodkabulary can i ask about the wow xl? What age children do you have in it now? How easy is it to push up hill / mount curbs?

rhowton · 19/02/2021 08:48

I wish I had just bought the icandy peach with my first as I knew I wanted a second quite quickly afterwards.

I didn't, and a regret it.

Twizbe · 19/02/2021 08:51

I got a pram that could convert with my first. When expecting DC2 I realised I didn't like the double configuration and it wouldn't work for DC1. Our pram had also been discontinued so we couldn't get all the adapters we needed.

Got a second hand uppa baby vista and I love it as both a single and a double.

If you do get a double, get all the adaptors and kit you need at once.

mammafive · 19/02/2021 09:19

I wish I had done this, mines are 14 months apart and would have saved me soooo much money!!!

JanewaysBun · 19/02/2021 10:45

Yes This is true 're not knowing how you will like the double mode. E.g. I would have regretted the egg as I find it easier to push with the kids facing me/the donkey is lovely but too wide. And yes parts are discontinued quickly Hmm

But i am fussy!

Thanks for the replies! We are now looking at the Icandy orange as it folds up much smaller than the one we were looking at before but will still grow with the family. Its such a minefield and so difficult when you can't see them in store.

OP posts:
JanewaysBun · 21/02/2021 21:31

I think the orange can only have 2x kids FF if that's still right?

With weight distribution I find it easier to have them both RF in my peach3 (I.e. the child at the front of the puschair is lower so it drives more easily).

If that is correct i would go for the peach over the orange. however if I were to buy new ibwould get the Vista as I THINK there is more space with them both rear facing , although this is a wider puschair

Niavic · 21/02/2021 22:24

@JanewaysBun Thanks. I've just seen the vista on an online shopping appointment and it does seem like the better if not very expensive option.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/02/2021 09:11

The orange can have both children forward or parent facing

Ive been looking at this for my upcoming 22 month gap

leggingsandwellies · 22/02/2021 09:24

I have a 16 month gap and wouldn't recommend the convertible ones at all. One child always loses out being on the bottom. The side by side ones are far far better and more practical in my opinion- like the mountain buggy duet and out n about nipper. I would get a nice single now then a side by side if you get pregnant quickly with second, as someone else suggested. There are plenty of great side by sides second hand so you really don't have to spend a fortune.
