Suggestions for a stroller?!

Hi all, my ds is 2 and a half, and I really should have bought a stroller when he was 6 mths as I was told it was okay from then, but carried on with what we had which is the Mothercare Travel system, it has certainly done its job that's for sure, but quite bulky and my ds is getting taller. I know there might be some who are against prams, as I have already read various opinions on the subject on another thread. But I still need something, I am trying to get something in good condition second hand, as I feel silly at this stage, to go and spend lots of money on a brand new one, when he may only use it for another year or so. So any ideas or suggestions welcome. Thanks!

I got a joie lightweight stroller and it is much easier for car and space etc. Plus somewhere to put bags. Honestly I would get on Facebook market place and see what you can pick up. Mine had been bought for granny's house, was like new. Paid 30 cash. Granted it's sat in boot for a few months in lockdown but still worth it.

I have the Chicco London pram, it's very good. Folds up well, okish sized basket, easy to push. I think it was £70 ish from Argos could probably find it cheaper. I use it for my son, he's 2 in November but he was 12 weeks prem so smaller. I have used it for my 3 nearly 4 year old too and she fits quite comfortably.

I like to get where I'm going asap usually so I use the pram and buggy board and sometimes a double. My daughter has very recently started to walk with along side without having a paddy when she doesn't want to go home, or for whatever reason she felt like! Really though, use a pram for however long you like if it makes your lives easier, nobody else's business

Oh you get a footmuff and raincover with it too. Probably won't get to use the footmuff much, I don't tend to but can always sell it on when you don't need it.

Thank you for your replies so far, I shall take a look at those names mentioned. Oh yes I know, I just remember a similar thread. For me having a child who still needs a nap if we are out it's necessary, and if getting on a bus etc, or in busy shops. I just try to bear in mind that he needs to also have enough adequate exercise/play time whilst out, which aids night time sleep 😉

I've got the joie nitro, you can get it for under £60 new, probably far less on fb marketplace, does the job, I keep it in the boot for emergencies!

teaandlotusbiscoff · 25/09/2020 10:45

Joie nitro is good, agree with others. We got ours for £30 in a sale and it was great compared to the other ones in the price range (Obaby/Mothercare own brand)

breadcore · 25/09/2020 10:55

Check the max weight on the strollers, the Joie Nitro states it's for up to 15kg and my 2 year old is already 13.5kg and we tend to add bags/shopping etc so I think she'd outgrow it quickly. If I was buying something that lasts up to age 4 (which you might need if you walk a lot) I'd look for something that can take up to 25kg. My dd still naps so I'd want a full lie-flat as well. We have a Silver Cross Zest which is only 5.8kg so great for public transport and takes up to 25kg, £150 new but can get much cheaper on FB or ebay.

Maclaren Quest, Joie Nitro, Joie Litetrax or Britax B-Agile M are great choices and not too expensive.

Weight limits tend to be 15kg or 22kg. You can exceed a bit without huge consequence, but you'll increase wear and tear on the buggy. It's not like car seats, where it's safety critical.

shesgonebatshitagain · 26/09/2020 23:13

Silver cross reflex is a great buggy and goes up to 25kg
Two of my kids have been in and out for the last four years in mine and it’s still great
Plus you can add a buggy board

It’s lightweight he a great recline and a larger and longer than average hood And has a rain cover

Worth every penny

BertieBotts · 26/09/2020 23:13

The total weight limit is usually higher than the child weight limit, so defo don't worry about shopping etc - that won't push you over :)

Thanks to all again, just read more of your updates, looking forward to looking those names up that were mentioned.
