Mountain Buggy - anyone have one?

Hi

I’ve been looking at getting the Mountain Buggy Swift or Urban Jungle as my pram for my newborn. It seems like it fits our needs and I get the impression it’s got a better build quality than the Baby Jogger City Mini GT which I was looking at before.

It’s unlikely I’m going to be able to find a stockist to push it around before I buy it, so can anyone tell me what theirs is like and if they like it?

We have one and love it! Smile

Ours is the Urban jungle (2011 version I think. It was second hand). We were debating between this one and the City Mini GT too and highly recommend this one any day. Basket is HUGE, pushes well over everything and it’s very sturdy. It’s also has a rather high up seat so when DC is 3/4 if they get grumpy and decide to drag their feet to stop (we had this problem with a Joie nitro style one) then it is virtually impossible to do so.

Are you looking into carrycot plus? I don’t have one but if using from birth it looks rather good. We were recently at the beach (rather rocky one) and managed to push it over the rocks and stones one handed and easily (just as a comparison—someone with a Vista couldn’t do it and kept saying how they were going to get one of those when their newborn was older Grin)

The basket has a lot of pockets which I find rather handy, eg if going to the beach/theme park it’s very easy to load it up and I can keep things such as flip flops separate from the towels. They also come with a bottle holder included and it can actually keep drinks upright although we added a universal parent console so have A LOT of storage areas. On the back of our one there’s a little zippered pocket which lately has been good for keeping face masks/phone charger/crisp packets.

To be honest I could go on and on about it as I love it so much Grin absolutely no negatives except falling over when running down a hill. DC was fine, I wasn’t but it’s heavy to lift in the boot (although the goods definitely outweighs that one negative), it will certainly last until five as it’s so big!

Thanks for your reply! You've definitely help convince me. I can't find a stockist anywhere near me to go push one around.

Do you know the main differences between the Swift and the Urban Jungle? I know the Urban is bigger.

I reckon I will get the carrycot plus - I like that it can be a parent facing seat too. Probably the car seat adaptors too so we can plonk that on now and again.

They are out of stock until October - hoping they might get some more colour choices in.

I have the urban jungle. Most recent addition as my baby is just 11 months.

It's really great. I bought it as my brother had the terrain and it lasted all 3 of his kids!! So built to last!! It's light and easy to manoeuvre, comes easily around the yard where u keep my horse, walking the dogs and also not too big to use around town (when we did last go to the shops 🤦🏼‍♀️)

We have the carrycot plus. Highly recommend. Now using the parent facing seat.

SoftMick · 22/09/2020 09:01

You reminded me, I have one in the loft to sell. Grin

I loved ours, great for beaches, country paths etc but also really manoeuvrable for in shops. The basket is massive and easy to access.

teaandlotusbiscoff · 22/09/2020 09:51

The swift has smaller wheels, so might not be as good over rough terrain but still has all the good parts of a mountain buggy. It’s also slightly smaller in dimensions and seat size. Smile

teaandlotusbiscoff · 22/09/2020 09:53

Saw your post on the other thread, in that case I’d go for the swift! Still has the same wheels but lighter and more manoeuvrable (also the post-2015 ones have a one handed fold). I had to bump the urban jungle up and down stairs a few times and it was rather good esp with the air wheels!

SunSparkle · 22/09/2020 13:36

Thanks @teaandlotusbiscoff! I have indeed been posting about pram choices. I’m a bit of a clueless first time parent but also I can’t find any shops with them in stock to try so I’m making an informed but blind decision.

Did you ever have a problem with your air tyres puncturing? Do they take lots of maintenance? .

I think a new Swift sounds perfect for us. They also don’t come up on selling sites too often which makes me think people use them until they completely fall to bits.

Will wait til they are back in stock in October and then order I think.

We barely have to pump ours up—literally only twice (once when we first got it and then again after a holiday) and we’ve dragged ours on planes, up mountains (pun intended Grin) and across beaches

Caspianberg · 24/09/2020 13:26

We have the mountain swift. It’s the Pepita luxury version so came with the non puncture tyres.

We have the carrycot plus, it’s been good. Baby almost 5 months and we have just swapped it to the parent facing seat from carrycot. I dont like the clips to attach as not buttons as such, but works fine.

We have 15 steps to front door and bounce up and down daily fine. We live rural and the swift handles all general off road fine. I did debate getting urban, but a) I’m short and I found it a bit high, b) tiny car would have been a squeeze. The swift we have to take one wheel off to fit in with carrycot ( they are quick release). But fits in fine without when he outgrows carrycot plus.

I’m happy we chose the swift in the end. We use it indoors a lot as baby settles better in pram for naps, and it turns on the spot and easy to get around house, into garden etc. Small enough in shops.

The basket is a bit rubbish though on swift. No extra pockets. But fits sling and change stuff in bag fine. We have the bottle holder on the side though for water, and I bought a buggy organiser for small bits as they would fall out easily at the bottom.

Btw the pepita version with carrycot is in stock still on natural baby shower. If it’s your first order with them you can get another 10% off also.

We have had the swift since 2015. It has seen us through 3 babies and copes with every type of terrain we throw at it. We do a lot of forest and off-road walking and it just glides over everything. I've never regretted buying it. In 5 years I've had to replace one tyre.

SunSparkle · 26/09/2020 09:21

Thanks @Caspianberg for your review and for the link! It's good to know it copes with the steps just fine and that the carrycot has been useful!

@ChooksAndBooks we have a lot of fields and woodland walks near me so it's good to know it will cope quite happily with all of that.

I'm really excited to buy it now - it sounds like a great solution for our family and lifestyle.

I bought the swift in 2017 and LOVE IT! Have just bought a second hand carrycot plus to use with it for baby #2 due next month. It’s an absolute work horse - it’s done festivals, beaches, rugged walks and was used daily for two years in our local woodland through mud/ puddles etc. Also good in the city and small enough to be great on the tube/ bus etc.
We have had two punctures needing replacement wheels which we bought from a general tyre supplier rather than directly from MB I think we paid £16 for a pair.

bloodywhitecat · 26/09/2020 09:33

I have the Duet v3 as I have a 5 month old and a 10 month old (foster parent) . It is a brilliant buggy, well built, easy to manoeuvre, copes really well on our off road dog walks and fits in the boot.
